What will 2026 UK speedway bring?
Fortythirtyeight replied to Lionsman66's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Simple answer….MONEY ! 700 crowd for Premiership riders wage bill ? That sort of crowd probably only justifies a Championship level team , unless your going to follow a Birmingham scenario and be willing to lose buckets and buckets of cash. -

get with the times, GTR project died years ago when the BSPL, as was, were taken the the cleaners by the builder and the BSPL lost over three hundred grand on the project. and just how many MX riders have taken up speedway in the last 5 years ? -

Not like Rob Godfrey did this every week from the centre green before the races had even finished. -

If it is, then this is the bloke who runs the sport in this country saying it is ! -
If all of those currently competing on 250’s & 500’s continue I’d call that less than 10 and that’s based on the current numbers still riding in the next few years which is doubtful based on current losses to the sport. As for the backing, I agree , what backing ? Vatcher giving them half a dozen rounds to race at ( and pay for ) with the odd coached session midweek for those that can make it, is not great backing. What happened to all those tracks providing juniors with race meetings ? The premiership junior league? etc etc.

Just look at the British Youth competitors, there’s very little coming through , maybe half a dozen as the drop out rate when they lose interest , or money , is very high .

Riders have ALWAYS been self-employed.

Middlesbrough Tigers , bit of a revue.

My mistake, deservedly finished second bottom ! -
Newcastle was finally put out of its misery by an idiot who pretended to be a promoter , Grant , who delivered the final shot.

Well as there’s very little , if any , feedback on here about any of their matches it would appear there’s little interest in the team from anyone on here. As I attended most of their home matches and a couple away I’d say they deservedly finished bottom as they were weak from the off. Pijper lacked support in the heat leader department as Spencer didn’t score well consistently and Phillips scoring was very poor throughout on slow machinery. Halder was a good second string , Ward was good one match , poor the next and Rathbone , despite occasional great rides and some very poor ones, didn't last long before being booted out with local lad Kelly coming in who was very poor indeed .The younger Pijper did ok and is learning his trade nicely . Southwick came in and looks to be the one to watch in 2026 if Middlesbrough run again. Crowds at Redcar appeared ok, 200-300 ish ? but running at different times on different days wasn’t good ( Fridays Saturdays Sundays , 12 noon ( ?) 3pm, 7:30 and there may have been a 6pm in there somewhere . Poor results but at least they blooded a couple of new names with Southwick the pick but maybe watch the progress of newbie Seth Norman who’s come through the Redcar Cubs NJL side on a 125 and did well in the last match of the season a very wet track. As it’s supposed to be a ‘development’ league I do hope they run again but can see a lack of riders being an issue.

Too early to be accurate with a lot if ifs and buts to come into play, but IF its 40 point limit AND its only one rider over 8 average ( I dont like that idea but…) wouldn’t gamble on Riss and sorry to lose King as he’s been a solid heat leader and as I can’t be bothered working out fractions on averages.. Go with … Wright 9+ Edwards 6+ Allen 6+ Mulford 5+ Pijper 4+ Scott ( if available ) 3+ leaving around 5 for seventh rider to keep Pijper & Scott at reserve. Dont think Scott will be back , the club still owns Jenkins so he might be an option but Im really hoping they sort regular weekly fixtures out as a priority , then smooth out that car park !
-
and has ‘issues’ from his previous stint.
-
Can’t see too many changes depending on what ‘rules’ the clowns come up with. Allen is a cert , MPT certainly not , wouldn’t think they’d gamble on Riss a second time. Scott will be in demand elsewhere. We will all just have to wait on the circus coming up with another plan to save the sport again, one league ? Making Poole & Glasgow move up ? Bringing in Northampton ? Mildenhall ? I.O.W.? Bringing back the green helmet colour ?😉

redcar racing bears v Poole FTG pirates
Fortythirtyeight replied to Coraldon's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Redcars first signing for next season should be someone who knows how to water a track. Never seen a water bowser being driven around without actually putting any water down ! Half decent match otherwise, mainly because the score was close , not a lot of overtaking after first lap as not a lot of grip, just dust. Thought Scott tried his hardest for little reward and Mulford was fast when he gated. Kerr showed why he likes the place and Pirates have done enough for the deserved treble. -
As it’s a Mickey Mouse cup ( initiated to fill up fixtures ) and the sport has Mickey Mouse rules let’s hope it’s not Mickey Mouse guesting !
-
Bike struck three people in the crowd, one not seriously injured but medics and ambulances required for two spectators. The referee abandoned the meeting due to the suspected seriousness of the injuries to the spectators.
-
As it hasnt been run since Covid I doubt it very much. The current promotion don't seem to want to gamble on a probable loss making individual meeting.
-
Well I hope someone independent comes in, this season has been very poor in its organisation of fixtures.
-
As some of this seasons riders have already been notified that there not required in 2026 by the promoter who added “ IF I RUN AT ALL” then one must assume that the man who heads the sport is thinking of not running a track himself , which would be bizarre, or he is about to resign ?

As Matt Ford once said …”I’ll agree to any wage cap you want to impose…..I’ll just get a sponsor to pay the rest “.
