How does it go ? If you cut him open he’d bleed black white yellow and blue etc. They’re all mercenaries at the end of the day . There’s no loyalty in professional sport.

What will 2026 UK speedway bring?

Philip Davies the Tory mp from Shipley Yorkshire? He’s promised plenty around that neck of the woods. Still a rubbishhole. Billy bullrubbishter. I have my doubts he can lead us back to the heady days 😁 -

The Doyle news being another nail in the coffin of this once great sport. From the early days and that magical smell to summer USA test matches at Hyde Road etc . Televised coverage to the point where everyone knew about speedway. It’s been destroyed by those in privileged positions with no regard to the future. But then it’s a different world now. All we of a certain age can do now is reminisce. Today’s generation don’t even have this sport in their mindset. It was always going to reach a conclusion one day. That day has almost definitely come. -

Heckmondwike could be an option for a new club in the premier league. But there’s just 3 concerns with it . It’s a 90 metre track . Their average crowd is nowhere near as big as Ipswich and worst of all , they’re only prepared to compete in the championship. Cycle speedway… it’s the future -

5 team league. 6 , 4 or 3. It’s all the same really. A shambles that can’t be taken seriously. -

A 5 team prestigious tinpot league? Wow what an achievement to celebrate being the champions of that. So any differing opinions on this forum about it will be like that league, totally pointless. Better off finding something else more meaningful to disagree about. -
I understand why too. What I don’t understand is what is it that makes it an attractive buy to a potential new investor. The sport needs a total shake up from the bottom. Two even numbered leagues with tiered prize money depending on where you finish up at the end . That way there is meaning to every meeting. I would also introduce one up and one down at the season’s end. But I’m living in a dream world.

Hopefully one of these two interested parties will come through. It’s totally beyond me though why any successful person would see an investment in the sport as worthwhile and profitable. It’s dying a slow death and there’s so many reasons why that have been aired over and over again on these forums. Non descript non jeopardy speedway with nil ambition shown in certain areas being the worst in my opinion.

Promotion and relegation provides jeopardy and consequence . Apparently though it dosent work. The way it’s run now however …..

His last sentence springs to mind.

Very well said. There’s no need to get personal and single out certain clubs and fans just because their opinions don’t always match your own.

Lily Savage is in the room … talking the usual bollox

I don’t think there’s much more prestige to winning a 6 team league to be honest. And there definitely can’t be any in winning the championship when there’s only 2 possible winners from the outset.

One league it is then. Let’s just hope that meets Glasgow’s and Poole’s requirements. -
You can’t change your birthplace mate . I used to live in North Yorkshire but I’m definitely not posh 😁

What will 2026 UK speedway bring?
Phannan replied to Lionsman66's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
We’ve reached the point of no return now . Ever dwindling crowds , hardly any interest from today’s generation, meaningless meetings against the same teams over and over again, clubs laughing in the face of the so called governing body by dictating to them where and when they will operate. No ambition to go as high as possible, just reach the season’s end. Only to do it all over again the following season. Doomsday. At least Liverpool keep my spirits up every weekend 😂 -
He’s from Halifax. Do you reckon he could do something for the Dukes while he’s at it …

Like Ive said before. The clubs dictating the rules to the governing body. It’s laughable for a professional sport to allow that. -

Promotion and relegation? Please make it happen. There’s plenty on here who say it wouldn’t work. If Peter Oakes suggests it then that’s good enough for me. -

British Speedway is worth peanuts tbh. The way it’s run with clubs dictating to the sport is laughable. -

You miss my point. Hopefully by being successful at the highest level you can attract more people through the gate . More sales of merchandise etc. if clubs showed more ambition and operated at the highest level possible, then that league would become more viable, the racing would undoubtedly be better, more teams with better riders. Meaningful success. Improve the sport as a product. Hopefully more attractive for the tv and the ££ that would bring. Clubs dictating to the sport is all wrong. In my opinion. -

Totally agree. The thing that strikes me about speedway is the lack of ambition to be successful at the top level . Certain clubs with decent fan bases are happier to pick and choose where and when they want to operate. Dosent matter what the level of opposition is. Then when they achieve success they celebrate it like they’ve won the World Cup. Big deal. They’re hollow victories. Race at the highest level against far better opposition. Track a winning team if at all possible. That will attract more people through the gate as people love to follow winners. Look at Man City for an example. Then victories are meaningful. Ambition? No . Let’s just be a big player in a lesser league. It’s sad how far our sport has plunged with that attitude.
