Thankfully, it wasn't a general power failure for the stadium as a whole, or the track floodlights (because that could've caused chaos), but a local one in the building containing the referee's box. The TV buses are hooked up to the power supply for that building, and some of the fuses blew after heavy usage during the night. We were lucky as the failure occured just after heat 10, so it was time for the interval anyway. And Mika Loppi should have been in Vetlanda today for Vetlanda Open, but wasn't able to make it. Appearently he got hit by a car while riding a moped back home. However, I don't know the extent of his injury. After several withdrawals, many due to injuries, Vetlanda Open was contested in two parts, a team meeting and an individual final with the two team's two best performers. The ten riders were divided into two even teams, but Team Stewe got out on top by a six point margin against "my" team. R/R is only available for the top two of the rolling averages, and that's Jaroslaw Hampel and Janusz Kolodziej. Jason Crump is 3rd, so it would be impossible to use R/R even for him if - God forbid - he got injured, and Lee Richardson is 4th. I think Patrick Hougaard is the best bet as the replacement for Richardson. Vaculik would have to ride in the main body of the team, with Hougaard being a reserve, probably along side Robin Aspegren as the Swedish junior rider. From www.speedwaygb.com: I had no idea that Jonas was going to ride for Team Viking before I saw that score on speedwaygb.com (because I hadn't visited this thread), but way to go Jonas! You often read that "this guy is a genuin nice guy etc", and if I had to chose one for that quote, it might be Jonas. I've had the pleasure of being manager for Nässjö (in Sweden's Division 1 league) this season, and Jonas has been the ultimate team mate. He's always the first one to help out if someone's in trouble, so it's nice to see him score so well in the opening of the Viking's tour. He deserves it, and I just have to keep a good look on this thread for now on.

Jonasson provided the match winning performance by his 10 paid 13 score, and was only beaten by Adams twice. Hampel missed his opening gate, but put on his gating boots after that. Hougaard fought hard for little reward. Crump should score more on his home track, but may be excused considering the win. Gomolski faced stiffer opposition than usual, for sure, but wasn't quite his normal self. Aspegren was involved in quite some racing on the night, he rode well. For Lejonen, Adams blew hot and cold but scored a win when needed (heat 16), though it didn't help them winning this time. Andersson did a good job at second string for a 19 year old. Pedersen actually beat Crump twice in a prestige meeting between them, but ended with a paid eight. Max's score says it all as he had an impressive win in his first but was nowhere to be found in the later stages. Holder's gating let him down, and it's hard to pass top opponents such as the heat leaders in Elit Vetlanda on such a fast track. Mroczka took his usual heat to get going. I would think that SVEMO had seen that before as well, but they couldn't let an Allsvenskan league continue for another year with less than 6 teams, for sure. Now, when Ikaros Smederna and Gnistorna have decided to join Allsvenskan from Division 1, and Rospiggarna joining from Elitserien, Allsvenskan's existence must be written in stone for next season. One would hope. Allsvenskan could be quite good next year. According to their website, Gnistorna says that they'll move up to Allsvenskan next season, which is good news. I agree that they could have problems finding enough riders (from Sweden), but being close to Denmark, they could field several Danish/German riders of Allsvenskan standard. The original plan wasn't for THJ to be registrated in Nässjö to lower his average for 2011, but to free up one place in the squad for another rider, as Elit Vetlanda was without any strong double-up riders this season, due to not having an Allsvenskan partner team like 2009 (when Sebastian Aldén, Daniel Davidsson etc. was available). For THJ to ride 16 heats was a fortunate side effect... ...but of course it's ridiculous that the ruling allows this, but it does. As you say, a rider should have different averages in different leagues, depending on previous year(s) performances. The Average Committee of Serieföreningen had this idea last year, but nothing happened.

Ricky Kling remains in the main body while Grzegorz Zengota is at reserve. The management expects Peter Karlsson to ride, as he told them he'll ride in Britain on Monday in preperation for this quarterfinal round. Problems for the Pirates as well as they'll miss Jonas Davidsson with a broken thumb after a freak accident in Britain on Saturday. Daniel Henderson, Alexander Edberg and Daniel Gunnestad recorded paid maximums while Niklas Eriksson top scored with 7 points for the away team, who appearently also lost David Rohlén to an injury in his opening ride. Gnistorna - Gasarna 52-43 Eric Andersson was man of the match with 17 points in 6 rides on the track where he qualified for the Swedish Final a while ago. However, he lacked enough support to keep Gasarna in the meeting with the nominated heats to go, as they where ten points back at the time. Niklas Klingberg, Robert Pettersson and Olof Nilsson scored at least a paid twelve score each for the Sparks. Filbyterna - Team Värmland 64-32 W.O. A Walk Over by Team Värmland means two league points to Filbyterna, the Linköping side. Stjärnorna - Nässjö 47-49 Nässjö had exciting meeting on Wednesday night, with a another close scoreline of six points or less for the 9th time in 18 meetings this season. Stjärnorna, with Emil Lindqvist making a supposedly one meeting comeback for the injury plagued home side, took the lead in heat 2 and held the advantage for most of the meeting. Nässjö were six points back on a couple of occasions, but two successful tactical substitutions kept it close and after heat 13, the meeting was tied again at 39-39. Jacob Thorssell had an engine failure while leading heat 14 so a Nässjö maximum turned into another tied heat, and still a tied score heading into the nominated heats. Thomas H Jonasson and Henric Lindqvist combined for a 4-2 in heat 15 which left Nässjö needing only 3-3 from heat 16 to win it. No idea. If two or more teams are tied on the same amount of points, "rider points quota" decides. Points for are divided by points against to get the "rider points quota". The point difference doesn't matter, so I really shouldn't write them in the standing, but it gives an indication and it's easier to understand so... DIVISION 1 RESULTS Thursday August 26th: Stjärnorna - Gasarna 37-58 The Messing brothers of Andreas and Robin weren't able to defeat Gasarna for a second straight day (they rode as guests for Nässjö the previous day in their win at Gasarna). The Avesta team cruised to a comfortable win in this previously postponed fixture, ending it by two maximums in the nominated heats. Eric Andersson scored a five ride full maximum for the visitors, and combined with the other heat leaders (Andreas Westlund, Pontus Aspgren) for an impressive 41 paid 42 points, while Andreas Messing was the only one to reach double digits for the Stars. Saturday August 28th: Nässjö - Hultsfred's Gymnasium 46-50 After winning the five opening meetings at the Skogsvallen track in Nässjö, the home side crumbled to it's second straight loss, at the hands of second placed Hultsfred, in their final home meeting of the season. Dackarna's reserve league team took the lead in heat 3, and held on to it for the remainder of the meeting. Nässjö cut the deficit to two points on a couple of occasions, but a maximum by Oliver Berntzon and Marcus Åström in heat 13 proved to be too much for Nässjö. It didn't matter that Jacob Thorssell and Jonas Messing ended in the best possible way for Nässjö, with a heat 16 5-1, the meeting was already lost. New date TBA. Sunday August 29th: Eldarna - Gnistorna 49-47 For the first time in 25 months (!), since a July 2008 meeting against Team CanVac, Eldarna managed to win a Division 1 fixture. It went to a last heat decider where guest Jonas Messing completed his five ride full maximum for the home side, winning ahead of Gnistorna guest Tim Gudmundsson, with home skipper Tommie Lundgren taking the final point ahead of another Gnistorna guest Jacob Thorssell. Messing was the best for Eldarna, which comprised of five guest riders for the day, while Per-Ola Klasson top scored with 13 paid 15 in 6 rides as a reserve for the Sparks. This week will see round 18 divied into four meetings on Wednesday and one on Sunday. Also, on Saturday, the previously postponed meeting between Team Värmland and Gnistorna will be held.

Though we now don't have matters in our own hands, we (Elit Vetlanda) have the chance for 1st place and 100 000 SEK. That wouldn't be bad at all, so here's hoping for a Lejonen win against Dackarna, and we should be fine, if we can just beat those Pirates... 54-42 would be nice, thank you very much!

DIVISION 1 - WEDNESDAY 10/08/25 Ikaros Smederna - Hultsfred's Gymnasium 65-30 1st placed Ikaros Smederna secured the Division 1 league title, despite several meetings remaining in the regular season. Norwegian Daniel Gunnestad scored a five ride full maximum as the Eskilstuna team once again smashed an opponent, this time the 2nd placed Målilla team. Hultfred's Gymasnium had their top scorers in Joel Larsson and guest Mathias Thörnblom with 10 and 9 points respectively. Indianerna Junior - Filbyterna Postponed due to rain. New date TBA. Gasarna - Nässjö 42-54 Henric Lindqvist fell while leading heat 2 to gift Gasarna a maximum and an early lead. Three heats later it was tied, and when Jonas Messing and cousin Andreas scored a maximum in heat 6, Nässjö were in command. A successful tactical substitution in heat 10 cut the deficit in half, from eight to four (28-32) points, but Nässjö were the stronger team after the interval. When Jacob Thorssell made T/S Eric Andersson lose his first point of the night, in heat 13, Nässjö were close to the win. In theory, the win wasn't clinched until Jonas Messing and Robin Aspegren proved that the art of team riding isn't dead, as they scored a heat 15 maximum. Then Thorssell once again beat Andersson in heat 16, much thanks to Andreas Messing who close the inside lines on the opening bends to give Thorssell a freeway on the outside half on the track. It's a new system for the season. After the regular season, the top six advances to the Play Off, as below: QUARTERFINAL STAGE Group 1 (which I will call "A" to simplify things) will be teams 1, 3 and 6. Group 2 (which I will call "B" to simplify things) will be teams 2, 4 and 5. Three tuesdays will be used for this quarterfinal group stage: Tuesday September 7th, 14th and 21st. The highest placed team (from the regular season) in each group, choose which team they want to meet in round 1, and if it will be home or away. The winner of round 1 will ride in round 2, against the team that rested in round 1. In round 3, the remaining fixture will be held. Examples (for Group A): 1st placed team chooses to start at home to 3rd placed team. 1st placed teams wins the meeting. 1-3 6-1 3-6 If 1st placed team lose the first meeting, then it will be: 1-3 3-6 6-1 SEMIFINALS Dates: September 28th and 29th A1 vs B2, home and away B1 vs A2, home and away FINALS Dates: October 5th and 6th Winners of each semifinal, home and away
