Cat Fight. P'boro v Sheffield 28 June
Andrew replied to Col's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Not really, just looks good written down! -
The stadium is allowing people to bring their own food and drink in at the moment.

Cat Fight. P'boro v Sheffield 28 June
Andrew replied to Col's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
We're making hard work of our home fixtures,so you'd expect a Panthers win by about 10/12 points. -
Started off like the Tigers were going to win quite comfortably, then the next few heats the Witches gave us a gating lesson and looked likely winners only for it to swing back in Sheffields favour when Adam got going and Jack manged to fend off Cookie in 13.

The 3rd turn bar is only open for the use of the toilets. You can see into the pits from the 4th turn. Belle Vue look stronger at 2nd string and reserve, heats 2/8/14 Tigers tend to struggle with at the moment so you'd expect the Aces to just edge it unless the Tigers three heatleaders go unbeaten... There's a pub on the other side of the church at the top of the car park, dunno what its like for food as I've never been in it.Plus McDonalds,KFC and Pizza Hut are across the road from the track. You could dine at the restaurant on the home straight, but you need to contact the Stadium and let the Promotion know so they can maintain the crowd numbers. Here's the link for lastnights meeting with information. http://www.sheffield-speedway.com/news.php?extend.2983

50-40 ,Jack 15... More importantly, the restaurant is open!

Wolves v Sheffield 7th June 2021
Andrew replied to Beowulf's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Tigers fared slightly better than I thought we'd do,however we do look a rider short in the middle order/reserve at the moment,as Justin and James look a tad one paced and Josh is er,Josh! -
And that's the same at Owlerton. In fact it was pretty much a 'normal' meeting crowd on the 3rd/4th turn, you could stand where you wanted,me and dad had our usual place with plenty of people within arms reach,so to speak. The home straight was split in two though, with the season tickets holders towards the first turn and the pay on the gate fans near the pits end and a large gap in the middle. There was also a smattering of fans on the first turn under the new building.
-
If you have proof of purchase, might be worth bringing it to Owlerton and asking to see a member of the promotion at the turnstiles.
-
You should get a email from sheffieldtigerstickets@seatedly.com with a red banner with your order reference on it,a team picture, then order details, and under that a PDF link to download the ticket(s).

Back in 1988,Sheffield Timekeeper Mike Beck,compiled a track record list from 1960/88 that was printed in a programme that season.A few years ago I copied it out and then added the times from 1998,also adding the average speed . There wasn't a track record for the 1960 season. Provincial League Era 1960/1964 71.2 Ronnie Rolfe 10/8/61 [45.36MPH] 70.2 Guy Allott 10/8/61 [46.01MPH] 69.8 Clive Featherby 5/4/62 [46.27MPH] 69.6 Clive Featherby16/8/62 [46.41MPH] 69.4 Cyril Maidment 16/8/62 [46.54MPH] 69.0 Ivor Brown 30/5/63 [46.81MPH] 68.8 Clive Featherby 8/8/63 [46.94MPH] 68.0 Clive Featherby 5/9/63 [47.50MPH] 67.6 Clive Featherby13/8/64 [47.78MPH] British League Era 1965/1988 67.4 Bengt Larsson 11/7/68 [47.92MPH] 67.2 Jim Airey 28/5/70 [48.06MPH] 66.6 Jim Airey 22/7/71 [48.50MPH] 66.2 Bob Valentine 4/10/73 [48.79MPH] 65.8 Phil Crump 8/7/74 [49.09MPH] 65.6 Ivan Mauger 19/6/75 [49.23MPH] 65.4 Ole Olsen 15/7/76 [49.39MPH] 65.2 Doug Wyer 14/7/77 [49.54MPH] 64.2 Chris Morton 26/7/79 [50.31MPH] 64.1 Peter Collins 27/5/82 [50.39MPH] 64.0 Shawn Moran 01/7/82 [50.47MPH] 63.2 Shawn Moran 12/8/82 [51.10MPH] 62.8 Peter Carr 18/7/85 [51.43MPH] 61.4 Hans Nielsen 18/7/85 [52.60MPH] 60.8 Shawn Moran 25/8/88 [53.12MPH] 60.7 Chris Morton 29/8/88 [53.21MPH] Modern Era 1998/2019 60.6 Carl Stonehewer 9/7/98 [53.30MPH] 60.3 Sean Wilson 10/6/99 [53.56MPH] 60.2 Sean Wilson 25/9/03 [53.65MPH] 60.0 Mark Loram 25/9/03 [53.83MPH] 59.9 Simon Stead 1/7/04 [53.92MPH] 59.6 Andrew Moore 1/7/04 [54.19MPH] 59.5 Simon Stead 8/8/04 [54.28MPH] 59.3 Chris Holder 6/9/07 [54.47MPH] 59.2 Ricky Ashworth 12/5/09 [54.56MPH] 59.1 Ricky Ashworth 14/10/10 [54.65MPH]

Sheffield has 52 panels plus the four end wedge shaped pieces,so you'd be looking at something similar for Odsal. Hopefully it will get some speedway staged there, went plenty of times in the mid to late 80's early 90's although that grandstand was bloody cold, even in mid summer!
-
Was tacked onto the James Wright press release on the Tigers site yesterday Spin. "...which means Josh Grajczonek won’t be returning to Britain"
-
Sheffield started a little late that season due to work on the new fence taking longer than expected. The first two home meetings were called off. Peter Carr,Mick Powell and Jason Straughan
-
Me and Dad were up in the grandstand between the 4th turn and start gate!
-
It wasn't a paying spectator, just a bloke who thought he could take a short cut through the stadium to get to Shirecliffe!
-
Vaclav Verner did 4 row for Exeter in a home meeting against Sheffield in 1994,he rode in heats 11,12,13 and 14 (3,fx,3,3) and won heat 16 for good measure, aged 45!
-
Zdenek Simota did four in a row for Plymouth at Owlerton in 2014,heats 7,8,9,10 as well as heats 2 and 4,scoring 9+1 The same meeting saw Ben Wilson ride in 7 of the completed 10 heats, twice doing three on the trot,hts1,2,3 and 8,9,10 plus ht 5 scoring 16+2. Sheffield were using R/R for Andre Compton when Leigh Lanham and Taylor Poole crashed out of the meeting in heat 3 (The crash ended Taylor's career sadly) so The Tiger's were down to four riders and due to the time it took to get Taylor to Hospital the meeting ended at the 10pm curfew, with a final score of 32-30 to Sheffield. There might be a few more 'four in a rows' in the 1976 season were a rider could take two R/Rs per meeting.Carl Glover rode in 8 of the 13 heats in one such meeting at Sheffield.
