BANK HOLIDAY TREAT AT EDDIE WRIGHT RACEWAY HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions are aiming to move up the SGB Championship table in a big twenty-four hours for the club. Scorpions travel to Newcastle on Sunday evening (6.30pm), before entertaining both Newcastle Diamonds and Workington Comets in a 30-race double-header at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon (3.00pm). Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “We’ve made no secret that we’d like to move up the SGB Championship league table a couple of places before the end of the season. “It’s going to be a tough ask, because Newcastle and Workington have matches in hand on us, rather than the other way around. “But our next three meetings are against these two clubs, and if the results go in our favour, it gives us a chance of catching them. “A double victory - worth six points - at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Monday is a must, while a win at Newcastle is not out of the question, because we were only lost by two points up there earlier in the season. “We used to be on a hiding to nothing when we went up to Newcastle, but we now have a number of riders who can score good points at Brough Park. Lewis Kerr, Michael Palm Toft and Tero Aarnio were all in double figures on that previous visit in May.” Godfrey stresses that he needs a decent crowd for the double-header at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Monday. He says: “We’ve done everything we can to make the double-header as attractive to supporters as possible. “It’s only £5 more for full-price adults, for double the action. In fact, there are significant savings across the board, compared to the price of two stand-alone SGB Championship meetings. “It’s an expensive meeting to put on. We were chatting to one of the Sheffield fans, and agreeing that the decision to exclude Georgie was ridiculous. It was clearly triggered by a slight contact from Lewis Kerr and Lasse Bjerre entering the first turn, leading to a heavier contact between Bjerre and Tero, which led to Tero losing control. Georgie was the completely innocent party in it. It should have all 4 back. If you had to exclude someone, it was one of Kerr or Bjerre - it started with them. As we are discussing it with him, Tero got booed by a few Sheffield fans (just a few - certainly not all) as he walked off the track. He was correctly directing his ire at the referee. But a few were booing Tero. I was just glad he was back on his feet. All the best Rob

Traffic nightmare getting to Owlerton yesterday. It was busy all the way up and then there was a bad accident four junctions from Sheffield (actually the other way, but two lanes were also closed in my direction) which meant a detour around the outskirts of Mansfield. Eventually got there for Heat 8, for Josh Auty's barnstorming TR. I was told the first seven races were pretty processional in any case. Then took well over 3 hours to get home, due to two night closures on the M1 (it should take 2 hours coming home at night). I won't bother going to Sheffield on a Thursday night after work again. The Thursday night traffic is almost as bad as the hell day for travelling that is Friday. All the best Rob

SCORPIONS LOOKING TO ‘CLICK’ HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions have a big weekend of SGB Championship action ahead of them, with a visit to bottom club Berwick on Saturday (7pm), followed by a home meeting against Peterborough Panthers at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday (5.30pm). Scunthorpe have already won once at Berwick this season, and are looking to make it four victories in four matches against the Bandits. Meanwhile, Peterborough make third appearance at the Eddie Wright Raceway in 2017. The Panthers won 46-44 in April, before the Knockout Cup clash between the two sides was washed out in early June, with Scorpions leading 19-11 at the time of the abandonment. Scorpions are set to use rider replacement in both meetings for the injured Jake Allen. Skipper Michael Palm Toft says: “We’re capable of winning both meetings, both at Berwick, and at home to Peterborough. “It’s just a case of us all clicking at the same time. When we do that, there’s no reason why we can’t win against anyone.” On Sunday, Chris Harris will be on World Longtrack duty and Peterborough bring in Scunthorpe asset Thomas Jorgensen as a guest. Jack Holder is also unavailable, with his replacement yet to be determined. Whether you like Greg or not, surely he has to be a wildcard for next year. His GP record: 1995-2000: Automatic qualifier for next year. 2001: Won the GP Challenge. 2002-2016: Automatic qualifier for next year. Once the other riders have proven they can knock Greg out of the top eight over the course of a full season, then it's time to discuss whether his Grand Prix days are behind him. Well I was stood just beneath the ref's box and I felt it was rather obvious that Ryan took a heavy knock from Schlein. The race really should have been stopped, with Schlein excluded. Having said that, we also had a couple of refereeing decisions go our way. The ref was consistently rubbish! Scorpions undone by a brilliant performance by King and that surprise result to Heat 12.
