  1. So the Championship teams (Second division whatever the BSPA come up with) in 2019. Lakeside : Does not look likely to be running, could be at a new venue or Rye House? Workington: Very little chance of running, will need a big cash injection. The stadium looks to have a limited run of about three years? Peterborough: Up for sale but been bought already according to reports. Glasgow : Running in 2019 but has run up a six figure loss. Redcar: Up for sale? Edinburgh: Looks Likely to be running but from reports has a limited run at its present location. Ipswich: Everything is good and seems set to run. Sheffield: Similar to Ipswich. Berwick: Up for sale. Scunthorpe: Threatened to pull out last year if I remember correctly but seem set to run next year. Newcastle: Definite to run in 2019. Apologies in advance for any errors but does not make for good reading.
  2. Exactly, not much team ethic nowadays in British Speedway more like a money spinner for riders just to top up wages, then again the system has been like this for a number of years but getting steadily worse.
  3. Some very poignant views from referee Graham Flint in the latest SS magazine on the future of the sport. He openly admits that the rule book is too complex and needs re written by a working party so it is ready for the 2020 season, even he needs to constantly read it to keep up with all the rule changes. Startling facts, average of 30 minutes of tractor racing per meeting, no plan in place if the Championship Shield final had it ended in a draw (only days to the end of the season). What is required is consistency of rules across the Leagues if not in the whole of the sport then at least in British Speedway. A two minute clock at all tracks so that everyone (riders, fans, officials) know that the two minute time allowance has started. Some hard hitting facts that all is not well in the sport but some problems could be sorted relatively easily.
  4. How far are Reds from full League , about two or three divisions ?
  5. Speedway doubling will not be stopped immediately it will have to be phased out , is one comment made by Terry Russell or Alan Rossiter cant remeber. Chris Harris said he rode virtually this season just to pay the bills and I,m sure Craig Cook said a similar thing recently. So reading most of the interviews in the SS this week, what is required : Three Leagues Fixed race nights (not sure which, Sweden want Thursdays) Stronger top League. (increased points limit) Reduced costs, Engines/Tyres/Power Better planning (Three years five or longer) Better presentation of meetings ( presenters/media/Kids events) Better promotion of the sport at a national level. Riders want more meetings, promoters cant afford to pay them!
  6. Yes was worth it I The end but cramming in five meetings in five days total madness.
  7. I like nothing better than standing around for about 3 hours on a cold wet night in October.
  8. Must have.been thinking about a few years later
  9. Attendances for the 1980/81 were about 250-300
  10. Cannot really generalise about concessions some pensioners are well off, some are scraping by , the current admission cost is about right .......if we (Worky) we’re getting about 800-1000 people through the gates! Do not really know what the future holds for Speedway in this country , riders want to ride in different leagues (double up/ down) to make ends meet but fans want to see their own riders every week and not go missing either for other British teams or riding abroad. We need to make the sport more credible and professional but I do not have all the answers , it’s all about costs, riders want more money and who can blame them whilst fans want value for money.i A slick well run meeting between April and September with October as a last resort is what is needed but will things change as fans on This forum have been speaking out but the promotions do not listen!,
  11. The fixture list was doomed from the start of the season but even half way the through the season the promoters would not believe it!
  12. Get the basics right and maybe the sport could be saved in this country , two three four leagues but get the product and fixtures better or at least try to!!
  13. I agree about the fixture list should be completed but if the fixture list was not compiled properly or fixtures changed then changed back again then one can hardly blame the clubs involved. also this was about the third attempt to run the fixture!
  14. Rider of the year : Jake Allen. Most impressive team : Workington Team rider of the season : Charles Wright. One to watch :Kyle Bickley. Bulldog award (Best British rider) Craig Cook Meeting of the season Workington v Glasgow Play off semi final. Surprise of the season: Berwick. Underperformers (Team): Sheffield. Unluckiest rider: Lewis Kerr Newcomer of the season : Drew Kemp
  15. Even colder tonight at the double header , second meeting abandoned icy track
  16. Very poor from many fans tonight , a rider who rode for the Comets for years, embarrassing.
  17. You know it’s a crazy night for Speedway when travelling to Worky last night at 6 pm and the car bongs low temp be wary of icy conditions , then scraping ice of the windscreen at 10:30 pm
