Last season at Poole in the KO cup final he smoked Lawson by 100 metres to win his third ride, but was tailed off in his other three rides, throttling right off as he came to a bend.

In the playoff final, it was the same, two tailed off lasts before beating Lawson by a straight.

If he gets in front he is very fast. The trouble is he is lacking any nerve to physically mix it if caught in a first bend tussle. Whether he. A get over these issues or not will determine whether he has what it takes to become a speedway rider of merit. Certainly has the equipment and raw talent but that alone is not enough when there are riders out there who will make up on a lake of talent by having bigger balls.

But there could be more to his issues than that. Why throttle off entering bends throughout a race when there’s no one near him?

It's not just mixing it, it's anywhere near, like you say. When he's at the back, he seems to leave half a lap between him and the rider in front. I just don't get it. You only get 16 laps a meeting, and spending half of them putting no real effort in is such a waste.

No idea what the answer is, but cantering around at half speed on the bike certainly isn't helping him. He seems to be going through mechanics quickly, and he's posted about engines - I'm not sure he's fully accepted the issue is mostly in his head yet.

I posted about Boughen last season, no question the guy has natural talent and is really quick but he has some sort of mental block,at the time people were saying lack of experience and it will come in time but it isn’t, it’s something he needs to work out possibly with a sport psychologist because until he gets over it his career will suffer, it’s not just a issue for him though as we saw last year against Poole when he gated and then shut off causing Zack cook to hit him from behind

Agree. I mentioned a few months ago that spots psychologist might be the way to go. Great talent, but sorting his issue out is a must imho.

If Mikkel Andersen is his replacement, I find it quite incredible he can be coming on a 5 point average.

Think some are just guessing throwing names out in the hope one will stick.

We have no confirmation that Ashton has been released so a replacement is slightly premature.

Yes, but he doesn't like young riders being dropped.

He's not daft, he will be well aware that Boughen is throttling off and completely in the wrong head state to compete properly at the moment. Like others have said Ashton needs to somehow get back into the third division, get a psychologist on board and sort out his issues because the current status quo is doing absolutely nobody any good whatsoever.

If Glasgow  wants to win the championship they can’t carry a  5.27 point rider which is only dew to his rolling average ,  he  averaging less than 3 at the moment and pretty sure any other team would be looking for a change before his ave drops to just over 3

Yes, but he also likes winning. Not showing up for your 3rd ride and gifting a point to Edinburgh no.7 is final straw for me. If someone can explain to me why that happened happy to be wrong. But that point could be difference between qualify and not

I just remember Harris being on a podcast and saying both reserves should be young riders (might have meant Prem, not sure) and that they shouldn't be allowed to be dropped as sometimes they need a whole season. Or words similar.

Jaizer, have you read the KL thread? As Phil put on there that he was dropped mid meeting. I mean who drops someone mid meeting? Wait til they done all their rides!! If that is true of course.

Ashton is not a reserve he is a 5.27 rider averaging less than 3  and he was not sacked durning the meeting his dad wanted him pulled out the meeting as his head was not in the right place and the medics would not sign him off so now has a 28 day ban for withholding his services

Drama and Queen immediately springs to mind.

As been said he refused to take his 3rd ride and if his head had gone who can blame him.
