6 Man Teams in 2026 ?

Recommended Posts

One question, why do Ipswich, Belle Vue and Sheffield have to get punished because other teams can't do a good job at securing a solid team?

Ipswich could lose hundreds of supporters if Emil or Doyle goes, and Birmingham gain another man and his dog turning up because they arrive at PB. Just face facts, some clubs have better support than others.

Instead of watering down the league, maybe think about trying to promote the product you have now in a better way, Birmingham have a decent team and is located in the second capital of the country but can't get anyone in the stadium. When I was working the other day down in Essex with some sub-contractors from Brum I told them I'm watching the Birmingham vs Ipswich speedway that night and they didn't even know that PB housed speedway! That's more of an issue than trying to do a 6 man team or nick other riders from good teams.

I think it’s time we stop trying to scrape together a few teams for a poor premier league and push to start a European speedway super league, could Lublin do it on a cold Monday night at Foxhall?

Depends if Sheffield are racing because they wouldn't have J. Holder! I'd love just a European Cup Comp. but everyone rides for everyone in the different league!

Must admit it was a bit of an eye opener to me reading on here a Birmingham supporter saying crowds were up on last year, but still not hitting the 1000 mark! 😳 That just isn’t sustainable I’m afraid.

New stadium owners already kicked out stock cars only speedway running there be lucky to survive only sport being run there 🤔

Stock cars have gone because the area they use for pits is now being used as a battery storage facility for solar panels. Only about 3 stock car meetings ran there each season (none last year) so it's a no-brainer for the owners really - rental income 365 days a year or 3 times a year ?

A similar idea was proposed a few years ago. A European cup, with the best two teams from England, Poland, Denmark and Sweden.

Not sure how it would have worked through with "international doubling up"

That would make sense but speedway in the UK always tries to accommodate the weakest rather than encourage teams to aspire to the strongest one.  Several years ago, it was Ipswich who were the weakest and impacting other successful teams.  Its all swings and roundabouts.

Am I right in saying the Danes use 5 man teams yet we are having a debate whether to go from 7 a side to 6?

How well does 5 work for them?

It seems to keep them going...

And provides "subs on the bench" when injuries/clashes abroad occur...

Survival for many teams globally is the objective rather than gaining any "tangible success"...

With, for most leagues, that "tangible success", not resulting in any major financial returns, nor any major national publicity, (or even local publicity sometimes), to speak of...

Ipswich was getting more than that even when we was injury hit and no doyle and emil
