Oxford v Sheffield 22/5/25

OXFORD: Maciej Janowski, Craig Cook, Erik Riss, Rohan Tungate, Charles Wright, Peter Kildemand, Luke Killeen.
SHEFFIELD: Jack Holder, Anders Rowe, Josh Pickering, Justin Sedgmen, Chris Holder, Lewi Kerr, Leon Flint

I think this one will be another tight scoreline, not expecting Lewi Kerr to score 16 again from reserve so Sheffield need a solid meeting from everyone.

Oxford have been poor this season but just got a feeling they will find another gear tonight they’re due a good home performance at some point.

48-42 home win

I think Oxford are asking too much of young Killeen. Watching him in the U21 final on Sunday. He was a shadow of the rider he was last year. His scores suggest that he's really struggling in the top league and you can see in his riding his confidence is low. Just like Boughen. I think he needs taking out of the firing line. i have no idea who could replace him. but the RS system is not working for a lot of these young riders.. Leicester took Hagon out of the firing line because he was not scoring. Look at him on Sunday (Lower Standard) but he looked like he had a lot more confidence on the bike and went on and won the meeting. If he was still at Leicester scoring hardly any pts. Would he have won that meeting?

For Sheffield to have any chance in this back up is needed for the Holder brothers.  Pickering the epitome of inconsistency this season averaging 10 at home and 4 away, he’s now a heat leader and needs the consistency of one.  Rowe had a very poor night at his former track so will need to bounce back and hopefully Sedgmen continues to pick up a few points in the engine room also.  Not sure how Flint goes around Oxford but if there isn’t a wide line he’ll struggle, although don’t expect 16 points from Kerr again at reserve he’ll need to put in a shift to pick up some of the slack from others.

Oxford should be stronger with Kildemand at reserve, you’d imagine at least 5 rides for him, Cook at 2 should get points especially against the Sheffield engine room/lower order, the Riss/Tungate partnership has potential for big points if they both show up, with Wrighy at 5 it does leave them possibly vulnerable in Ht13, but they’ll be hoping to have it seen up by then.

Another close one going for a 47-43 home win

Think you’re spot on with that.  Kileen had advantage of an experienced mechanic who knows the setups around Glasgow (mechanics for one of the Glasgow team) but he just seemed to be going backward heat by heat.  Not sure what the answer is as you don’t want to say bring in likes of Jody Scott before he’s had a chance to dip his toes with Redcar.  Only one that I think could do the job is Luke Harrison but like a lot of the available rising star riders that would mean him having 4 teams in UK (already has Scunthorpe, Scunthorpe/Sheffield & Kings Lynn Young Stars)

After Oxford's dismal showing against Belle Vue at Home, I won't be predicting them to win again lol.

Sheffield to chalk up another win due to the top end firepower (42 - 48)

Yes I would agree, Kerr scored 5 when he rode for Poole recently at Oxford but he should have a much better meeting for Sheffield after his 16 at Kings Lynn. Kildermand at reserve though is a big plus for Oxford so expect it to be close.

hopefully Sedgmen continues to pick up a few points in the engine room also.

Sedgmen was decent for Brummies at Cowley when I visited 2 years ago, the track was a disaster that night though.
