Thats what i mean by a realistic option Alexandra stadium is really no different to BV as regards to its location and would be a temp track, many football stadiums host concerts, boxing, american football but would all be out of reach of speedway cost wise and also said stadiums wouldnt open the doors for the crowds a speedway gp would pull, id love to see speedway in a stadium like Tottenham Hotspur, but as in Cardiff in the latter years the crowd would be swallowed up by empty seats, cost of hiring would be prohibitive, the days of the Wembley finals with 90,000 crowds are long gone and even the reported 100,000 that was quoted for the 1976 final in Poland. Do you think this is why the current rights holders seem to be taking speedway away from the big stadia? When they came in it was big plans for major stadia and to expand worldwide, perhaps they have seen it to be not worthwhile. Strange really as today younger generations are all about extreme sports but the majority dont even know what speedway is and you cant get much more extreme than racing 5oocc bikes with no brakes.

Also lets face it  you can watch on line or TV easily today as has been said on tv it was the perfect event and isn't that what Discovery is about viewing figures - subcribers .

Well said, couldn't agree more. Far too many moaners. Watched on TV, racing fab.

And while watching it on tv moaning or otherwise continues it will be the death of the sport in the uk but at least the racing will be great eh, which is the whole point I’m trying to make, we have to make people want to go and great racing isn’t it unfortunately

Amazing how many forum members with Belle Vue or Aces in their username are unable to see the downsides from last night! You'd think - being Belle Sue regulars - they would have actually gone to the Grand Prix. If they had, they must have had a far different experience than me. I couldn't get into the stadium, missed the first few heats and it was near-impossible to get any form of food or drink - not to mention those who were also sold tickets for non-existent seats.

Not knocking the racing though, which was superb, but the facilities and organisation were awful. Nowhere near what should be expected at this level. Basically we need Belle Vue's track inside Cardiff's stadium.... alas, never going to happen. Belle Vue has bags of potential if done right, but last night was not enjoyable for a lot of people. Not sure all those watching on TV appreciate that.

I agree about Alexandra stadium in Birmingham, it’s really close to me but I didn’t want it there as it would of been just another meeting like BV was but with crap racing thrown in, it needs to be a stadium in a city center like Newcastle, yes there is no speedway in Newcastle but you have 2 tracks with 60 miles and another 3 within 120 miles and I’m sure there is some sort of fan base left from the diamonds, the football stadium holds some sort of rugby weekend festival there which is what speedway needs to be

Fair comments all round. I watched on TV so can't comment on the catering, queues, organisation etc but doesn't sound good. Such a shame because they've had plenty of time to get it right.

Who are responsible for Ticketing and Catering.Never hear of these problems at other GP venues.Just asking?

Personally I just go the watch the racing which was fantastic last night.(can do without food or drink for a couple of hours).

E-tickets and Apps on Phone can be problematic though in certain situations.

When I read about the catering problems last night with Mike lemon having to serve behind the bar as Well as his other roles at BV it’s reminds me of Peter butterworth in carry on abroad as the hotel owner doing all the jobs 😂

Should have got Brian Potter in...

It's ran like the Phoenix Club!!!

Their "fun day" was better organised...

"Kenny, fetch me Zantak"....:D

And that’s a perfect reason to get discovery out of speedway, they couldn’t care less

I totally agree with you i remember hearing the powers that be saying the sport needs more tv exposure to make people aware and get crowds up, the opposite has happened and especially with clubs now doing their own live streams, its far cheaper for people to stream than attend, you cant beat being in the stadium, i wonder if clubs make enough to cover the loss of footfall into the stadiums thanks to TNT and their own streams?

Discovery do pay a set fee to teams per month for their coverage although not sure if it’s for whole year or just months of season(think it’s the latter) but it’s not a sniff of what they should be paying for our sport, compared to what they pay other sports it’s laughable

Most other venues are well organised and have extra facilities and extra food/drink outlets. Belle Vue had the same issues at the SON but did not learn any lessons. There were also ticketing issues at the SON too with valid tickets being rejected.

I suppose the authorities are so desperate for tv coverage they sell themselves short.

One of the big issues for the sport in this country...

Well meaning amateurs trying to run something they have a zero skill set for...

 Nail on head ,100%agree.

Take the fans for granted. It must be Embarrassing for the people in charge.World Event and can’t organise for 6,000 crowd.
Thank goodness the racing made up for the  inadequate organising .
