Oxford Cheetahs v Edinburgh Monarchs 18/6/25 19.30

Recommended Posts

All the makings of an absolute barn stormer. Masters vs Palovaara (arguably the leagues 2 form riders), home advantage but a stronger (on paper) away 1-5.  Sticking my neck out i will say just a home win 46-44 just hope the track helps produce a classic.

Looking forward to this.

The availability issue Oxford face definitely weakens them, but I understand a few of those Edinburgh riders have never raced the Cowley circuit, so who knows?

I said it after we beat them at Ashfield; that Edinburgh has the potential to do damage. Palovaara was a genius signing and him moving into the main body of the side now affords a more “established” rider a less pressured role in the team.

An Edinburgh win for me tonight, based on Oxford’s reliance on guests and the Monarchs’ strength in depth.

Love that speedway is back at Oxford. I know it’s been a few years now, but the sport needs positive stories like that of the Cheetahs.

Agree. Hope it's not the usual dust bowl.

You seriously have to ask "what is the point?" of running these 'guestfests' week in, week out, don't you?

You simply cannot take the competition seriously can you?

And by organising such events, knowing so many riders will be elsewhere, just suggests that those who run the sport don't take it too seriously either...

An amazing operating model to run, if you believe it will be successful, in the internet world of 2025...

Whilst I can't disagree with you regards the guest situation, what are the options?

Cancel the event until your 7 riders are fit & available or opperate a squad system as the Poles & Swedes do. Neither of these two are better or workable for our requirements.

I feel tonights meeting will be a close run affair but with the home team looking stronger in 13 & 15 I think it's to Oxfords advantage but Ht 2 & reserve -V- reserve I favour the Monarchs. Cards on the table I'll go for a 2 point victory but I'm not sure which way!!!

May be you don't sign a Dane when you've got a Wednesday racenight, nor a rider who has a contract with a Danish team.

Knudsen missing all of Oxfords league meetings so far is farcical and makes the league look even more tinpot than it often is.

A rider should only be allowed to miss so many meetings due to other commitments, this I believe will be his 5th meeting missed due to foreign commitments and I’m sure Oxford probably knew this when they signed him.

The club is as to blame as the rider imo, neither of them should have agreed to this and Oxford should be made to us an NL guest or replace him instead of getting guests who may improve Oxford chances in certain instances.

Spot on, basic, entry level planning...

And also maybe have less riders per team so "others" are available to do short term loans..?

Also, let some riders sign that "contract" that Poland have where riders agree to be available when required..

And then put together a fit for purpose RR facility, rather than one where a heat leader has to have a reserve replacing him..

There are many ways to give a Speedway meeting (and therefore the competitions themselves), credibility...

They just choose to not do it...

While I agree with most of what you say..... the decision to sign Knudsen was very last minute. The initial plan was to go with Scott Nicholls and Jody Scott, but ended up having the change tact when Nicholls informed them he wouldn't be fit. Jonas Knudsen and Cameron Heeps were then drafted in. The club probably panicked a little and did what they could to make the line-up as competitive as possible.

Signing announced on December 3. Not sure we can really use that as an excuse.

I don’t think there should be any guests for riders missing due to foreign meetings unless F.I.M..It would be a start on sorting the shambles.

Spot on.

It’s painful how British speedway is frequently compromised. Once again, Oxford fans are witnessing their side not at full strength. They - and the rest of British speedways followers - deserve better.

Who knows what the solution is? In most other industries, including other sports, they’d draft in a consulting body to evaluate challenges and implement improvements, like a KPMG, Deloitte, Accenture, etc. However, I doubt the SCB have that sort of capital.

Speedway taking place at Oxford and it being live on BSN are two huge positives, but long/short term, the sport is facing longevity issues.

Late november was when Scott Nicholls announced he would miss the start of the season, so by my reckoning plan B kicked in, but as Scott Nicholls injury is taking longer to heal, plan C may need to be implemented.

Whilst I agree having guests is not ideal I still think Oxford will win, only just but they will do it as long as Shroek doesn't make any cock ups!

Oh well that's the end of our hopes 🫣
