eric i
Well done to the BSPA for giving Northampton every chance to come into the league. Its a good job they don't listen to some of the people on this thread.
mikebv
1 hour ago, SPEEDY69 said: My guess would be Matt Ford. With the comments from Chris Holder the other week around there not being any chance of Speedway there this season, you may very well be right... He just may well have been taking the pee somewhat, knowing the actual situation... Let's hope it is a success for all involved..

Tinker
Great news re. Northampton. Hopefully, it's the shot in the arm that British Speedway needs and fingers crossed re. the return of Coventry, Peterborough, Swindon etc. Plus the fact it seems to be quite feasible that Northampton could host bigger meetings in the future considering the facilities there, Midlands location etc. Various other sports have been on the decline in the past but they pick themselves up through a variety of different reasons (new innovations, sponsorship deals, TV deals, change of public perception etc.) and get back on track. Quite possibly and with fingers tightly crossed, just maybe it is now Speedway's turn.
OGT
In 1971, Brum didn't open til May 23rd and still managed to fit 25 meetings in. How times have changed, eh.

Whoever it is has done a cracking secrecy job to keep this all under wraps. Well done 👍 Whoever he or she is a can't see it being a hit in the Dragons Den! Sorry but this smacks of desperation surrounded by a failing sport! Filling half baked Premiership teams with riders that have been round the track more times than a runner bean is not going to have punters flocking to the gates. A perfect opportunity to create something new and give advancement to NDL riders has been sorely and wilfully missed for the greed of the top flight clubs ( including my own)!
YeOldPitGate
2 hours ago, WookieboyDon said: There have been plenty of posts saying that there is no point as it won't survive beyond two to three years, the sport is a circus so it's a waste of time, it will have no fan base, the track won't be good enough for passing etc, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah. If that's positive and a good thing... You either haven't read the posts or have forgotten them. I think everyone on here wishes them the absolute best but it can't be denied there's some very big challenges to be overcome hopefully every assistance will be given to them by the other tracks so they have a fighting chance.

I would imagine he's got a few mil the issue will be he knows how hard it is to make a profit out of a speedway track even with an established fan base and as he's at the tail end of his career I would be suprised if he's willing to risk his lifetimes earnings on Northampton. Someone did mention Mark Webber now that would be great , a fella worth hundreds of millions who would have massive sponsorship contacts he's the kind of person who if he got involved could prove the kind of game changer needed for the sport. Woffinden has enough money, but he also has a family, and he's not going to take any risk pouring his hard-earned into speedway when he has no business experience promoting speedway.
