To be fair....

In UK Speedway terms, it was a "big cake" and the person involved was the one who actually brokered the deal..

(When nobody else was able to have done so for years)...

The fact they ended up just giving the "Sky Money" to their No1's, for a good many years, (who then all pretty much effed off to Poland when the Sky money went), really isn't his fault...

The money should have been used as an investment in secured future growth...

However. Being unable to look any further than the end of your nose can be a problem at times...

And a lesson still not learned to this day it does often appear...

Ā

The man who cut the deal deserved his cut. It’s - as you say - what clubs did with their share.Ā

I actually have a feeling that there will still be the status quo in 2026. I feel like the introduction of Redknapp at this specific time when rumours are rife are perfectly (and intentionally) timed.Ā

Think of it like this:

Harry Redknapp joins a team specifically built to re-build and improve the profile of Modern British speedway. His influence brings in much bigger/high profile league sponsers to the premiership, bringing in much more capital than we've seen in a long while.

I very much doubt a championship team would turn down that kind of income/exposure.

I can see 7 teams running 7 man teams in both leagues in 2026. Glasgow have previously said they'llĀ neverĀ step up unless it's financially viable for them. With big sponsors involved, I can see them pulling the trigger. We then only need 2 more teams to join in to make this happen. Personally I can see Plymouth and potentially Redcar joining in as well.

That's odd. People are making fun of you but, I heard this rumour a few months ago.

Just hope the Rolling Stones can join the status quo. Ticket sales will go through the roof.Ā

I doubt if Harry Redknapp knows enough about speedway to bring in new major sponsors so your comments are just speculation. Glasgow is owned by very successful businessmen who I can't see risking their future by joining the premiership until it would be viable for them. Again, why would Recar or Plymouth want to take the same risk?

If this did happen, the Championship, as the most viable current league, would be so depleted it would be no better off than the current Premiership

There’s already 5 teams from this years prem for 2026 - The top four of 2025 plus Stars & Oxford although as the Cheetahs.
But you may be correct that three other promotions may join the top flight to give an eight team PremĀ

British speedway is so depleted that as a spectacle, one league is the only solution.

The issue is subsequently whether or not this is viable for those who double up - Harris, Masters, Lawson, etc. - and most alarmingly, whether or not there are a sufficient amount of riders to build as many teams as one big league requires.

Although probably necessary, reducing teams to five riders seems tinpot.Ā

So many questions, in an ideal world the One League system is the way to go but it will have a dramatic effect on the way it operates with costs etc.

No way will the likes of Kurtz , Bewley , Fricke , Doyle etc be able to ride in such a League even the so called lesser riders like Masters, Lawson, Harris (Heat leaders in both leagues) prefer and demand to ride in two British league sides to make a living.

Its a complicated and sad way the British Leagues have evolved.

What one?

Lambert. Not saying he’s not a good rider. Don’t like his nature as a person. Bewley is never phased and comes across as a true professional on and off the track.

Lambert shows his true colours in some of his gp interviews. A bloke who is a sore loser just like Woffinden can be also at times. As a neutral Bewley is the man. (Top Brit by far )
