Most teams in the premiership football league call staying up or finishing in the top 4 a successful season. Is this a “sport” or not? Find me a footballer supporter who has watched their team get beaten most weeks, finished second bottom and ask them if they think it was a “successful season”. You’ll be hard pushed to find one so I don’t agree with you I’m sorry. A club not expected to stay up but avoids relegation against the odds, could consider it a successful season. But that jeopardy doesn’t apply here does it. “But it’s been good racing”. Again, find me a football supporter who would get up and cheer an opposing player banging one in to the top bin from 20 yards against YOUR keeper and saying “great goal son! Enjoyed that one” Appreciate it sure, you wouldn’t enjoy it though. Speedway supporters have long had a stigma attached to them. Programme boards, cr@p club jackets, some with badges attached, fishing chairs and tartan blankets, flasks, etc etc. I was going to say Speedway supporters are generally a bit weird but that’s too unkind. Let’s just say in the main, they’re a bit, erm, different!

Well there seem to be a load of happy Sheffield Wednesday fans at the moment and they are certain to be relegated along with having a poor season. Sometimes sport is not about winning. i also know plenty of Reading fans that were not that upset about being relegated as it helped changed the direction of the club. So there’s two for you. I expect a team like Plymouth, not running at a big loss and being able to come to the tapes the following season is seen as a success. Now, teams like Poole and Glasgow this is not the case. Anyway, would you have classed Plymouth winning the title and going bust a successful season?

If you supported a football club who'd been on the brink of extinction, had a few iffy seasons and was now in the process of rebuilding, increasing crowd numbers and growing, I think you'd be pretty happy. Add in some entertaining home games, a safe mid table finish, even happier. I think it'd be weird if Plymouth fans were happy finishing bottom 3 every season, but they're going in the right direction, so it's fair enough they can find some positives.

For me as a worky fan, very similar to Plymouth A good season is watching entertaining racing with the majority of home wins, if we get beat by a better team so be it 😄 Then if our team survives and runs the following season that is a success and hopefully the guys that run the speedway have broken even

You're absolutely right, there has been a real buzz about Plymouth this summer, there's over 100 children that line up for the kids race that won't care if Plymouth win or lose the meeting, they're inspired by the peewees want to try it themselves which is feeding my first skid with new little riders, It's a long way off but they are the future of British Speedway. I just hope there is a future to enjoy. I think it speaks volumes that Nicholls chose to come back to Plymouth given the choice between there and Oxford. The main thing is we get speedway and alot of people have lots their tracks, having a shot at the play-offs would be amazing but the truth is most are happy to see their riders put in a shift and entertain.

This is exactly it. Plymouth are 99.9% of the time competitive at home. As people state there are a limited amount of people left that go to the speedway purely because they love and study the sport. But people go because there is a great vibe currently at Plymouth, everyone is welcome, the production that is produced is aimed at getting people to come back, the kids get involved, the promotion are forward thinking, it’s all more than just 15 minutes of racing. on top of that the track has been really good and the new potential plans for the track of the winter is only going to enhance the racing further. and as said above the fact the Scott Nicholls is prepared to return must mean Plymouth are doing something right. I think Plymouth will have a strong team next year that should compete for trophies and it would be nothing less than mark and co deserve.
