Gated twice and didn't gate twice, simple as that.

Jon Boy
Above all having any speedway to watch last night at Oxford is the real winner. Costs of a rain off or abandonment could have been catastrophic. Was it a classic? No Was it a fair and safe track for the riders given the expected weather conditions? Yes Were Oxford sharper out of the starts? Yes. I think some of the criticism of the riders given the conditions and personal circumstances are unwarranted. People seem to forget Lawson had a major smash and mechanical write offs recently so will be playing catch up with fitness and equipment. Sedgman dropped everything to drive down to Oxford so had no time to prepare and set up for Oxford. I agree he is not a track specialist but marketed that way to soften the blow of losing Riss. Oxford could have gone for the cheaper option of r/r so fair play to both parties. I think Newman rode better than points suggested but lost out from the gates but not his riding or speed. Rushen will be hell of a rider and was giving 100% every single second. The only rider that based on last nights performance that disappointed me was Bowes who didn’t ride like a team man and wrecked the run of his team mate in one heat and looked quite erratic in another, that said he has been used to the bigger tracks so could have been struggling with a slick, tighter track. But I bet he learned lots so take the positives.

What is wrong with that? The Oxford track was prepared with no material on it due to weather forecast, that is fair enough but it did produce a dusty track, not why we lost though, they were just gating better. On 4/16/2026 at 1:26 PM, szkocjasid said: Just out of curiosity, does that mean if you prepare a boring race track on purpose it's acceptable then? On 4/16/2026 at 1:42 PM, LisaColette said: Oxford didn't prepare it accidentally did they? They did it because of the weather, so the Oxford fans say. So on purpose. Maybe a different word would be better. I was replying to the first part, about the Poole track in the play-offs.

I'm very much more interested in the entertainment on show, than the result. While I'll tend to be cheering on one of the teams in action, I don't have "my team" to support (Rye House & Arena-Essex / Lakeside) so can understand why others would feel differently.
