As a matter of passing interest were Klindt's 6 wins all 'from the gate' or was there any passing involved?

He scored 18 points for Redcar at Poole back in May!

A bit of both but he attacks the track and uses a line out by the fence and gets some great speed ,and is always willing to stop and have a chat with the fans, whatever it takes he should be a comet next season.

He is something special around Workington. Still not sure i could trust him though he had a good season to Redcar.

Max Perry also stated he aggravated a rotator cuff injury yesterday.
I too would like to win home meetings and I’m sure the riders would too they must be frustrated as well, points make prizes .
Hopefully next week we can beat the bold enemy Berwick .

Couldn’t have said it any better. We’re in a position that we are because there doesn’t seem to be a massive amount of thought behind the teams we put together. In terms of riders exceeding their average, the comets very rarely seem to find anyone who can do so.

Thomson, Loftus, Klindt, Wood, Hagon, Flint, McDiarmid were all riders at the start of the season I would’ve loved comets to sign, as they have clear potential to exceed their average. As proven.

Regarding Batchelor, The ‘new engine’ has been an issue for a while as he hasn’t been buying any new equipment allegedly. That can’t be helping performances.

The mentality at Workington is now to basically expect to get beat at home as it is a ‘fair track for all riders’. Sod that, you set a track up so it suits your team and make it a struggle for the opposition.

Workington 1-7 this year has been nothing short of a disaster. Losing Cook hasn’t helped and as mentioned NHJ is a failed experiment. Batchelor is finished. Tate I think has been great at times but still not consistent enough. Jonas has been a breath of fresh air, loved having him in the team. Vinnie has a limit and that’s a 4 point average. Couldn’t really understand why they had him back on something close to that. Max has done well picking up points and if he had been there start of the season (Unlucky to just miss out on average), Workington may have found themselves sitting in a more promising position.

There is so much to be sorted for next year including a stronger team that looks like it has been put together by a strategy and a vision, rather than picking convenience. I for one hope that starts with Nicolai Klindt. Without knowing what the constraints were with team building, he should’ve been nailed on for this season anyhow!

Hoping that Workington Comets speedway are around next year, and that the team they construct is a lot more competitive than this current one.

The last few words of this post is the most relevant. Yes another good speedway meeting to watch, comets imo lucky to get a draw, but take away the 60/70 travelling monarchs and the crowd was very poor, no where near break even figures. More supporters need to attend on a regular bases, I know several old supporters lurk on this forum, so come down and support the comets, before it's too late. As for a potential team change, if you have no money you can't do much.

Very reactionary from you on the back of a few bad results.

I, personally, wouldn't have changed much in comets team. Cook was the biggest gamble going and it failed. NHJ is struggling in his first season but id have him back next year on his current average.

Batch has been our best rider of the last few season, started this season really well, and has been poor for past few. On his average last season, less than 7, I'd have kept him. Especially as a third heat leader.

You just seem to be judging everything on hindsight, and that isnt realistic

Updates didn’t really paint the picture tbf. He made more passes than that and was made to work hard for his wins in a few of his races.

The grahn pass was the hardest for him.

The rest of the races he was just trying to slow down the riders to help the other rider pass. He was interviewed afterwards and his mechanic said he'd counted how many times he looked over his shoulder in one of the heats.

On one lap alone, he looked over 5 times. Good team rider to have and you dont see that often

Yes, good point. Ht 15 especially you could see him riding wide to allow Kemp free rein on the inside line, checking his position repeatedly.

Nic's always been about speed and flow in his racing. The track could have been built for him!

All the negative about the team but no mention of track prep

The track is very poor recently

First bend down to base after ht2 last week

Big hole right in middle of 1st/2nd bend  this week

Crowd is down but the product on offer is not what it was

Catch 22 if you want paying public you have to give something worth paying for

I go every week but I'll be honest I no longer get down about it or miss it if we have no meeting 1 weekend

For the people who would like a team change, can I ask who you would try and bring in at this late stage of the season that could be any better than what we have now ?

Best track in the country and no one wants to go and watch plus obviously a lack of money to improve things.

Sums UK speedway up perfectly. Almost done.

Don't think a lack of money for improvement is the issue, floodlights are ready to install when the electricity company decides it has time to install the mains. No mains no lights

No excuses for track prep yesterday,  shocking amount of dust from Ht 1, why was the track not watered b4 the start?  Any people attending for the 1st time wouldn't be rushing back, Sat night ,might have been planning a night out after the meeting, instead going home for a shower. Pointless trying to attract new fans IMO until they make a better effort to reduce the dust. I was there an hour b4 start and no watering took place. Racing was 1st class, certainly wasn't an issue. Don't think there was any dull races.

Have to disagree with "product on  offer isn't what it was". I think the racing has been some of the best we have seen this season. We have something of an issue with underwatering pre meeting often with dust in heat 1. How would you prep the track out of interest ? people have differing opinions that I like to hear while riders also have differing demands that some don't mind expressing.

I think Steve knows work is required on turn 1,  maybe the close season will see this carried out but I dont know.  Big hole is not something I recognise.

Without figures not many people will know what the crowds are like in comparison to the last two seasons but i've certainly seen it lower in previous seasons compared to yesterday, Plymouth, Poole (couple of occasions) and Scunny come to mind from 2024 season.

You can once again point to the fact that Speedway is caught in a time vortex from a bygone era.  The people running it stubbornly refuse to change .

Apparently crowds are lower at most tracks, Sheffield issued a warning last week on this very subject which no one wants to see.

Your wrong about this, the track was watered yesterday as I watched the tractor waiting for the riders to finish there track walk but then I think it was the meeting sponsors on a track walk delayed the watering until they moved out of the way this was about 5.30 so that's when the track was watered. The weather and drying wind just dried it out. I stood on the back straight and there was zero dust there, obviously not saying there was no dust as could clearly see there was but just stand away from the wind direction.

Bar the results no one can complain of the quality of racing the last two meetings as there has been more passing than most tracks see.

Now is just the time the promotion should be planning for next season . We will be finished end of August barring rain offs which look unlikely at the moment.

The forecast didnt help yesterday. There was due to be rain and it didn't happen. You either risk watering it and hope it doesnt rain, or don't water and hope for natural watering.

Id go for the latter because even if it didnt rain, you can still ride regardless of the dust.

If the track was watered and then it rained, then you risk a very wet track that may stop the racing

If Comets run in 2027 would be worth seeing if they could tempt Grahn as he seems to always go well at your place.

I keep seeing posts like this. Why wouldn't we run? The facilities are being continuously improved, there are a lot of sponsors on board, and the ultimate goal is to get the stadium to FIM standards.

Did any of the "new foreigners" look any good to take a gamble on in the Jay Cartmell Meeting ??
