We want to visit my wife’s grandmother’s grave (and see the place) and we both thought this was too good an opportunity to miss. Ipswich does puzzle me though. We’ve never had a bad GP at BV and I’ve seen some shockers in Cardiff, so not surprised that’s binned. TravelPlus have already taken bookings even though little things like price and hotels haven’t been sorted yet

Ipswich should be nowhere near a grand prix roster and certainly boring Glasgow shouldn't have a hope. “Boring Glasgow”.😂 This post alone should ensure no-one on this forum takes a single post of yours seriously. A ridiculous comment. Stupid, even.

I don't think the capacity is huge and, understandably, Aussies will no doubt be keen to watch a GP on home soil.
SPEEDY69
Great to have a new venue in the UK, 10-12k possible crowd makes it viable. Now see who wants to ride for Ipswich next season 😁
marko
I know people will say Ipswich is a small track but I can remind you that way back in the early 90s Arena Essex was being mentioned about hosting a Grand Prix, the track was given FIM status at one point (might have been 94) and there was plans to improve the stadium accordingly and then Hackney became a thing and the late Terry Russell went for that option instead, with the newly named London Stadium host a GP round in 1995. Its a shame for Belle Vue because IT IS the best track in the country, What i would have liked to have seen is two rounds back to back on the Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday, one in Manchester and the other in Ipswich, thus giving equal opportunity for fans in both the North and South to see a GP round.

With a maximum of 6k fans at the NSS this makes it hardly worth it financially. There should be more opportunity at Ipswich.

I saw the list once a few years ago and it did change from venue to venue, but all were six figures... Cardiff was ran by the series owners themselves as it was the biggest money earner at that time.. It also has been said that temporary seating works out roughly at £1k per seat, which therefore can be very expensive to install... THE DEAN MACHINE
In an interview Coleman has said because of the location at Ipswich there is room to create a festival type event,at last someone gets what the British GP should be, maybe someone has listened to me at last 😜 If anyone has ever been to the Weston super mare beach race weekend that’s what the British speedway GP should be like Edited Sunday at 08:55 PM by THE DEAN MACHINE

If the cost was £1K per seat, then the 2000 seater temporary stand would have cost £2m! Actual cost is somewhere between £50 and £100 per seat

Hence two nights would seem to be a must to help cover that cost and, more importantly, make money... A 4,500 or so capacity would need a fair few quid entrance fee to make enough money to make all the work worthwhile..
Tinker
I have no problems with Ipswich staging a GP at all. Quite refreshing in actual fact. I was never a fan of the two GP's back to back at BV, I understand the lack of capacity and cost element etc but thought it was a bit daft. Admittedly, the track is awesome though. Ipswich has a much bigger capacity and hopefully will be a sell out. I'm sure those in charge will do the work that needs to be done. People are saying it's in the sticks/middle of nowhere but aren't the Swedish locations similar? A great climax to this year's GP series but generally the whole thing has become stale and any new track like Ipswich or Glasgow should be welcomed to mix things up and rekindle interest.

I agree actually about the double header back to back on consecutive days. The second one seemed a bit flat for everyone compared to the first and I think it was too much too quickly. Aries
From Today’s Star Track: Ipswich chairman Richard Coleman has big plans for Foxhall’s first ever SGP event and he admits that it begins with delivering track improvements. ”In 2027 , to have the biggest Speedway event that has ever been held at Foxhall is going to be quite something. It’s really important for Ipswich, the club, the Town, and the wider Suffolk region. We are already getting a lot of engagement from local businesses and projects that want to be involved. Hopefully we can deliver a great event next year”. ”What this does, is it allows us to spend money on the track that would be hard to justify just for club events. We want to get the racing to a very high standard at Foxhall, so we’re going to be making a lot of changes to the track surface. ”We’re going to change the shape a little bit, change the camber and improve the whole racing element of it”. ”To those asking questions about the track, I say reserve your judgment. The Foxhall track that you see today, will not be the Foxhall that you’ll see at the GP next year”.
Aries
Coleman pretty much admits by the way that they couldn’t/wouldn’t offer Belle Vue a double header due to FIM pressure and that seems to be the dealbreaker from a Belle Vue perspective. They can’t agree terms for a single event. Edited 13 hours ago by Aries
Neila
If belle Vue takes up the option to host the single GP in June, a few things will determine how many fans might attend, if the cost is high to factor in the cost of building the stand, fans won't buy the tickets, also oasis are playing in Manchester that weekend, and hotel prices are horrendous, so travelling fans will be put off attending. A lot of things are going against belle Vue taking up the GP option in my opinion

I remember the very wet SON and hardly anyone used it over the week. Complete waste of money. normal FIM bureaucracy I guess
