Will be interesting to see who the other new riders registered will be Could it signal an intent to move up to the top league in the not too distant future? Whatever his faults (real or imagined) Ged is certainly positive and proactive in looking to develop his club - you have to applaud him for that.

Kyle is a difficult one to predict. At times he looks rather ordinary, but one the other hand he popped out of the gate in heat 9 on Friday and beat the previously unbeaten Ulrich Ostergaard, and if he can pull that sort of thing off against an opposing heat leader once a meeting its the sort of thing that wins matches, and he didn't have any last places which is exactly what you want from a No 4. There is a long way to go yet but my guess is he'll stay at No4 all season , maybe with a small increase on his average . I like him though, glad we have him in the team and hope he does well. He is certainly not short of enthusiasm .

To be fair, Jonas had just drove across Stevie on the 4th corner, so Stevie would have been trying to get around him when Jonas tried it again.

Such is the strength of this Poole side, it has ridiculed the league as a competition. In there blinded wisdom of allowing out of date averages, the BSPA has all but destroyed the equality a league needs to be respectable. My plan for the coming season is to accept Poole's dominance and forget about them. In my mind the competition is about the remaining 7 teams. These are all of a similar standard where the results will be based on the racing seen on the track and not some out of date ruling that only provides loopholes for those looking to pull a fast one..

Only made it for the last 5 races, but impressed with what I saw from both sides. Really like the centre green presenter there and Neville is great. It's not just a speedway meeting there its an event for the family. Very much in the mould of the Warrior Way.

And they also have around 100 tradesmen who have offered their services to restore the stadium.

Congratulations to all the riders in tonight's U-21 semi at Eastbourne. It rained – they raced. They didn't moan. I'm proud of everyone of you for getting on with the job in conditions that were far from ideal. Well done to the ref for keeping it rolling. But I take my hat off to these young riders. Everyone of you is a star in my eyes.

I think we lack that at Poole I'm afraid just my opinion we never get young lads going around after the meeting anymore

Are they affiliated to the Freemasons by any chance?

To be fair I don’t see a lot of fault anywhere, just a racing incident between two riders giving it everything.

What a daft comment. What is a club supposed to do, hire riders who are no good on their home track ? Lol. More like you are just a poor loser. Get over it.

All clubs have the same chance to sign riders as any other clubs if they chose not to do so for whatever reason that’s up to them it’s not Poole fault that rider want to ride for them surely? ask any young footballers that doesn’t want to play for Man United for instance. I’m perhaps missing something but are Poole really that much stronger than the rest of the league ? as for someone saying they could do an Ipswich what they did in 98 I’d be amazed if they did - yes Poole have a good side as they do most years I’d expect nothing less .

Not at all. As with most things in life if you approach a situation looking for the positives you’ll find them, and if you go in looking for the negatives you’ll find them. The glass that’s half empty is the same glass that’s half full. I spent Friday night enjoying the meeting -both teams. I really don’t get why people spend £17 to spend the evening moaning . Maybe you ought just not go to Lakeside, not think about it, and not follow the threads. Unless of course being miserable is what makes you happy, but it seems a strange attitude to me . Life’s a bit short to go round moaning about everything all the time.

I think Shanes has the potential and his grass track background shouldn't be a disadvantage. Many youngsters progressed from the grass to the shale in the 60's, 70's and 80's. If he is prepared to listen and learn he would benefit from an experienced rider taking him under his wing in the way that Steve Lawson mentors Bewley.

Why not as there is zero chance of him promoting at Brandon again and like it or not he is the owner of Coventry Bees. He'd be a bit stupid to just lose out on the money he has paid for the riders. Chris Harris would probably go for a bag of chips and a beer after his comments. Avtar Sandhu made sure he got all of his assets.

Yep i agree with you, all including young bewley are the future, of course as you know, that proper international standard is a long way off for those guys, but they will all learn in time. I mean, even established riders in there team could give a helping hand, but obviously, you would rather see them do it on a training track rather when points are at stake.

We need the likes of him, Zach, Max and a couple of others included in any GB team training etc, they could be the future of the GB team so need to be taught properly and given as much experience as possible while they are learning.

James Shanes style entering corners is/will hold him back. He sort of throws the bie into a corner and while it will get him so far, his stle does have limitations. Trouble is how do you completely change your racing style? Much easier said than done.

James is exciting to watch doesn't matter who he beats

THE documents for Brandon and Bretford Parish Council’s Neighbourhood Plan application have been submitted. These are available to download from the Rugby Borough Council website. https://www.rugby.gov.uk/downloads/file/1738/brandon_and_bretford_neighbourhood_development_plan We would particularly draw your attention to section 12 (starting on page 54) concerning Potential Development Sites, which makes detailed reference to Brandon Stadium. Note particularly the following paragraphs: 12.6 In the survey circulated to residents for the development of the Neighbourhood Plan, residents were asked what uses they would like to see included as part of the future redevelopment of the Stadium site. An overwhelming majority of responses wanted to see the site retained for sporting use or for the development of community facilities. There was some support for the development of small business uses, but only a handful of responses supported any form of residential development with those responses favouring either affordable housing or specialist housing for the elderly. *This survey response is entirely in line with our own survey of local residents carried out in Autumn 2017 and indeed the overwhelming response of 1,800 objections to the planning application as part of the council’s consultation process. 12.7 The site is wholly within the Green Belt and the adopted Development Plan does not contain any policy that is specific to its existing or future use. Similarly the emerging Rugby Local Plan contains no policy that is specific to the site’s existing or future use other than general policies for the redevelopment of PDL within the District. *This is an issue which we have raised in our representations towards the Local Plan and will do so once more during the public hearings later this month. 12.8 The Government’s planning policies as contained in the NPPF contain policies on the redevelopment of PDL within areas of Green Belt and on the loss of existing open space, sports and recreational facilities and buildings. Paragraph 74 states that: “Existing open space, sports and recreational buildings and land, including playing fields, should not be built on unless: a. an assessment has been undertaken which has clearly shown the open space, buildings or land to be surplus to requirements; or b. the loss resulting from the proposed development would be replaced by equivalent or better provision in terms of quantity and quality in a suitable location; or c. the development is for alternative sports and recreational provision, the needs for which clearly outweigh the loss”. *The Parish Council are absolutely correct to highlight this section of planning policy, which is also included in our objections to the planning application. 12.10 The site has played an important role as a sports stadium for almost 90 years and is an established and valued facility within the Parish. Alongside the local and wider sporting value it has delivered to generations of people, the stadium has provided local employment and has become a valued landmark in the area. The survey of residents showed that there was overwhelming support for the retention of the site as predominantly a sporting facility whether in total or as part of the site’s redevelopment. *Again, this is entirely consistent with our own findings having surveyed the local residents. Policy PDS1 commences: POLICY PDS 1 BRANDON STADIUM As a long established and valued sports stadium, preference will be given to the continued use of the site either in whole or in part for sports purposes. Support will be given to proposals which would allow the site to remain in its current use as a sporting facility subject to acceptability with other policies in the Plan and to adopted Development Plan policies. *Interestingly, there is a brief reference to the Neighbourhood Plan within the Design and Access Statement in the Brandon Estates planning application. It states: 2.1.34 Brandon and Bretford Parish was designated as a Neighbourhood Plan area on 12th May 2016. The Steering Group are currently in the process of writing the Neighbourhood Plan for the Parish, no draft has been produced, and therefore no weight is currently given to this. *We have made reference to this brazen statement in our own objections to the Planning Application, the full text of which will be reproduced on our website next week. We have included, amongst others, the following comment: 10.6 Why have Brandon Estates suggested the decision on the planning application should be made giving "no weight" to the wishes of the local community? Is it because the local community are substantially supportive of retaining the Stadium facility?

We live in a totally different world now with 24 hour TV and sports. Speedway like Cricket (although 20-20 has been its salvation) lost its family image and patience seems to have gone as people want continuous excitement. Speedway racing is as exciting if not more so than ever and the riders exceptionall skilful but for now we live with what we have, there are still nearly 30 clubs going so nothing as bad as 1958 when there were only 10 full time clubs.
