Maybe I'm being ungrateful here but I really struggle to think of anything positive to say about the new era. I've been to Foxhall a couple of times this season already but the vibe is just off imo, Too much decline in a short period of time imo. To me it feels like Buster Chapman (Pre 2026) is in charge who's put out a team just to make the numbers up on a tight budget with a Team Manager (Paul Hurry) who couldn't pull a leaf off a tree.

But if you're going to have Mondays and Thursdays as race nights, have Mondays and Thursdays as racenights, not just the odd one here and there. Let's take Sheffield as an example, who race on Thursdays. They opened their season on April 2nd, and were back the next week. Away on the 16th, but nothing on the 23rd or 30th of April. Home again on May 7th and May 14th, but nothing on May 21st or May 28th, although they did run on Bank Holiday Monday (25th) to cover one of those. That's potentially four lost meetings. June, July, and August look much better, perhaps because of the imbalance between Monday and Thursday tracks, but even then July 2nd is empty. A total of 5 missing Thursdays. For a Monday track like Belle Vue, it's a bit more stark. They opened on March 16th and skipped a week before league racing began, running 2 weeks before taking a week off. They raced on April 20th, then took another week off, had a home meeting and an away meeting on the next 2 Mondays, then another week off, another week on, another 2 weeks off. June picks up well after that but that first date in July is missing again, followed by a home and an away and another blank week. August has 2 home meetings and then 2 weeks off, before coming back for the Bank Holiday. So that's 9 Mondays off!

I suppose there was a possibility that with so few matches that the season could end early if meetings were ran regularly... The danger now of course, given so few meetings have happened, is, even with so few meetings to complete the season, the weather gods will intervene and we will get the usual "cram them in" so the play offs can take place.. Although, with no TV schedule to worry about they could run up to November I suppose.... But "cramming in" home meetings can, as we have seen in the past, provide attendance challenges over the piece... Sadly, it is all a bit underwhelming overall given so few meetings isn't it?...

And have a league of eight teams who would still only have Monday & Thursdays as race nights.

Yes, it’s interesting that the Stars are the common denominator in these instances. Maybe just a matter of fate that Lions were able to quickly rearrange the fixture with the Witches but not the case with the Stars for either of the two postponed fixtures, at KL or Leicester. The former which (as it turned out) was not affected by inclement weather. Maybe having to share their fence with Northampton is playing its part.

I make them favourites because I think Doyle's persona in the pits and potential away from the NSS makes the Aces stronger on the road.

Still waiting for the KL match(es) to be rearranged though, as far as I'm aware. For a league with just 6 teams in it and with a spring with 23% less rainfall than usual, staging just 4 Lions matches in 3 months is a pretty pish poor state of affairs. I suppose that's what comes with limiting your trading hours to 2 and half hours a night on 2 days of a week.

You are absolutely spot on with teams historically having alternative race nights. These were used in order to catch up on the fixture list at a time when there were far more teams in the league too. Thus Lions had Tuesday as their regular race night with Friday being the “back-up”.Now they seem to race the majority of the time on Thursdays leaving Monday as their “spare”. Unless I am mistaken only the Lions, Aces, Stars & Witches have this flexibility generally available. Meanwhile, fair play to Lions & Witches for promptly sorting out the revised date.

I know ….. all those years at Ipswich when he really only wanted to ride for Belle Vue He may get close to that average as he currently has no big injuries to ride his way back from like he did the last 2 seasons and now he is 40 I’m sure he will be just as good as he was in 2022 before he had those big crashes and age definitely isn’t a factor At least now you finally have a heat leader who will know his way around Foxhall and if you are up against a full witches 1-7 (which for once you was last season) then you may be able to finally win over 2 legs

May 2nd Berwicks last home meeting ridiculous

Very laudable, but also consider in the event of a rain off, a stated free week for the home team is not always the case for the away team who may have a home meeting themselves or away at another club. Fair to say most weeks where a meeting is not scheduled is a free week for rearranging rained off meetings aka Lions v Witches. Done. Very strange to punish a team for them having to postpone meetings due to factors beyond their control I.e the weather.

Was talking to him at Glasgow when worky were up the other week 😀 previously told me he had had enough of the forum, as a lot people took over talking crap all the time. The forum is not as it was a few years ago 😜

Chuffed for Jason as he’s been wanting to don The Aces colours for a few years now but our penchant for making our own stars has meant no room at the inn for him. Though he’s no Dan I’m hoping he can get back to something like he was when returning to the UK in 2022. He finished his glorious stint with Swindon on an 8.96 and will no doubt be looking to get nearer to that than his finishing average of just 7.86 last season. He should fit in with the British based Aussies in the team and linking up with his national team manager will see things run smoothly. I don’t know if the short term phrase is being bandied about in an attempt to re introduce Dan following his recuperation as just working off averages it would not be possible due to taking us over the limit.

I wish him well. Not my favourite rider, but you know what you are getting with him. At least it's back to a full team again with Kildemand and Blodorn back

You start by saying you are not assessing on an individual basis but finish by criticising an individual meeting. Last night's meeting was affected by the weather and Edinburgh looked beaten before a wheel was turned, ok fair enough have a couple of heats to assess it but after that they should have been able to compete but showed little desire to do so. Last night's conditions should have suited Edinburgh or any away team as when conditions change it usually suits the away team and Redcar proved last season we are not unbeatable at home.

I think Mayfield have saved us and the league. For which we should all be grateful. Unfortunately, the speedway authorities are just delaying the inevitable collapse of speedway in the UK. In my opinion ( not universally popular I guess) the quicker we get a reset the better. Back to one league and get the youngsters on board and make the bloody sport viable again!
