Ipswich v Belle Vue POSF Leg 2
IainB replied to blue witch's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Some of the riders with certain attitudes are a cancer in our sport and like all cancers they need removing. To have riders minds (and often bodies) elsewhere is not what the fans pay to watch. There's no buy in from many of the riders and if they don't buy in why should the fans? Come and support your team... but your Captain is really only interested in another competition, your number 1 earns more money on a Sunday in another country so won't be riding on the Saturday night... and there's far too many examples to continue to list on here, we all know what goes on. I DO NOT blame the riders, they have to do what is right for themselves as self employed participants. But are there any other team sports that operate with self employed participants? Like I said in an earlier post, riders should be salaried employees it's the only way to get buy in. I know it will never happen and for that reason team Speedway will probably die a lingering death. -
In the hundreds from each? As that is what I imagine Northampton would need from each of Coventry, Peterborough and Birmingham as their natural catchment area is not that highly populated.

So that was the worst meeting I've seen at Foxhall this year. Smooth slick tracks do nothing for entertainment. Brennan was fast, his race times much quicker than anyone else, hope that continues to the SON! Kurtz has ridden worse at Foxhall this year so don't think he wasn't trying but was just very bad out of the start. Bewley looked good when he popped out for a win but when behind didn't try the outside line once. Blodorn, Zischke and Mulford did all they could, it was the top two stars who let the Aces down. Heading into the GP, Doyle will be feeling more confident than Bewley and Kurtz. Emil was just awful. I'm hoping for Leicester to make the final as I don't really like any of the Sheffield ridersđ -

And so the biggest issue British Speedway is summed up, the league matches do not matter to the fans and sometimes not to the riders, the play offs do matter to the clubs who see it as possibly a break even pay day, but for whatever reason not all the riders are equally invested and some fans are smart to that, so if league matches donât draw and the play offs by design or accident donât draw, what is the point? I donât have the answer, I think we will lose more clubs as the sport in the country will become a very small league setup with maybe only seven or eight home fixtures a season plus a koc match or two, or become similar to what Isle of Wight do or what grass track does, a few meetings a season. (That wonât be viable though if speedway is the only sport in said stadium) -

Riders and mechanics were abused as they were going on to the track and as they were leaving the track this was clearly visible on bsn that said time to move on it's all about bit boring now. -
Except for Fricke & J Holder in the GP it doesn't seem like any of the riders involved in this semi final have any meetings on the continent this weekend, although there is a meeting in Krakow Saturday which I can't find a full line up for, I think it's a pairs event. Rasmus Jensen & David RempaĹa, Oliver Berntzon & Vadim Tarasenko and Jakub JamrĂłg & Szymon Bandur are the only confirmed riders but it's not inconceivable that Pickering, Douglas or Becker could be involved.

Football is more expensive, but there are a lot more football fans and subsequently more demand in the first place. Even then, I'd argue ÂŁ30 is on the high side for L1 and I've seen others saying the same. The Stock Car World Championship is an annual event, I don't think you can realistically compare that with a run of the mill league meeting. I personally think the ÂŁ20-25 range you've listed for standard stock car meetings would be a fair price for Premiership speedway. Closer to ÂŁ20 for normal league meetings and then bump it up a little when the POs come around. As has been said above though, the price is what people are willing to pay for it. Look at the GP section of this forum, it's full of people decrying the price of tickets for the GP at Belle Vue and yet there was 5,500 people there. Yes, it's only an annual event the same as the Stock Car World Final, but the cheapest ticket was ÂŁ69 for one meeting and people still paid it.

How much actual racing do you see for that ?, Speedway works out at about ÂŁ1.50 per minutes racing, I know from the rare occasions i have been to stocks that races last a lot longer so roughly how much per minutes racing?, I am going to take a wild guess and say something like 25p per minutes racing which is way way less than the cost of Speedway.

Agreed but some fans dont see it and promoters openly admit to doctoring tracks to there favour. -

Quite a bit of quite frankly ridiculous criticism of Kurtz & Bewley, the track was treacherous and if you didn't gate it was game over. Don't blame any rider for not taking risks let alone those two. Well done Ipswich, boooo to the weather. -

Just seen the scores from last night, (as I was a "Dad Taxi" I only watched from Heat Four to Seven and then went to bed after watching four heats of riders riding around equidistant apart for four laps), and noticed Dan only got 4.... The same as Brady.... Yet, seemingly, he "tried" according to some on here, so escaped criticism from the Witches fans, (baffled why they would be bothered about the Aces riders but there you go)... A good job he did try though as if he didnt, his score would have been even less.... Only saw him in one race and he gated and won, but noticed he ran two lasts, which on that track would be no surprise if you didn't gate.. Amazing how this sport fails to "showcase" itself when on TV, most sports ensure the "playing field" provides the maximum opportunity for those competing to show off their elite skills to a watching nation.. UK Speedway, instead, actually allows riders like Emil and Dan to NOT demonstrate their elite skill set to those watching at home... Maybe if no GP/Elite riders next year then the money saved could go into track covers? As, getting the track raceable to provide entertainment, (especially on those "dodgy days") must be the No1 priority surely for promoters if this sport is ever to become more popular... I have watched 19 heats in the last few days and the vast majority have had riders almost a full straight apart, from front to back, with all riders a similar distance apart.. Not a great advert for "top level" UK Speedway is it? But it starts and ends with what "playing surface" is provided.. - Today

I find this quite bemusing. Glasgow are on the far side of the pits. Anyone shouting abuse would not be heard. In fact the Poole riders would even struggle to hear anyone shouting at them and they are facing the fans. Also, there are no fans directly in front of the pits as this area is out of bounds to supporters. Having never seen anyone shouting abuse doesnât mean it didnât happen, but when did it happen? It sounds like a load of hokum to get the Glasgow crowd riled up. -
Zmarzlik only won one heat in the Elitserien semi final second leg at Lejonen (home track) on Tuesday night.

guests for injuries are a necessary evil although r/r should be compulsory if its not your number 1 or a reserve but to schedule a plum semi final on a night when riders are in a different country is utterly ridiculous its deeply worrying how some people just accept guests when they should only be used when absolutely necessary

No he wonât stop being silly. Can you blame him? Cause I certainly canât, track was the same for everyone and 3&4 was a bit patchy early on. Everyone knew belle vue would be spluttering out of the play offs because there team is weak if you take away the top 2. Itâs been refreshing seeing someone take it to Bartosz this year, and, I hope Kurtz wins because heâll land me a nice chunk of money đ -

I did place my initial post under General Discussions but I would imagine it would be better placed here? It is with deep regret due to having to downsize that I will have to off load my extensive collection of speedway DVD's. They number approximately 800 and as an Oxford fan many cover the Cheetahs but there are many internationals and World Finals. Unfortunately due to the size of the collection any interested party would have to collect which I appreciate may be an issue? I seriously hope that there maybe someone who is interested...they cover the years 1972 to the present as it would be a terrible loss to have trash them? Regards
