Lions vs Witches PL R1 11/06/2026 19:30 OFF!
IainB replied to IainB's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Still waiting for the KL match(es) to be rearranged though, as far as I'm aware. For a league with just 6 teams in it and with a spring with 23% less rainfall than usual, staging just 4 Lions matches in 3 months is a pretty pish poor state of affairs. I suppose that's what comes with limiting your trading hours to 2 and half hours a night on 2 days of a week. -

You are absolutely spot on with teams historically having alternative race nights. These were used in order to catch up on the fixture list at a time when there were far more teams in the league too. Thus Lions had Tuesday as their regular race night with Friday being the “back-up”.Now they seem to race the majority of the time on Thursdays leaving Monday as their “spare”. Unless I am mistaken only the Lions, Aces, Stars & Witches have this flexibility generally available. Meanwhile, fair play to Lions & Witches for promptly sorting out the revised date. -
I know ….. all those years at Ipswich when he really only wanted to ride for Belle Vue He may get close to that average as he currently has no big injuries to ride his way back from like he did the last 2 seasons and now he is 40 I’m sure he will be just as good as he was in 2022 before he had those big crashes and age definitely isn’t a factor At least now you finally have a heat leader who will know his way around Foxhall and if you are up against a full witches 1-7 (which for once you was last season) then you may be able to finally win over 2 legs

Very laudable, but also consider in the event of a rain off, a stated free week for the home team is not always the case for the away team who may have a home meeting themselves or away at another club. Fair to say most weeks where a meeting is not scheduled is a free week for rearranging rained off meetings aka Lions v Witches. Done. Very strange to punish a team for them having to postpone meetings due to factors beyond their control I.e the weather. -
BERWICK v GLASGOW (CL) Saturday, June 13th (7pm)

Was talking to him at Glasgow when worky were up the other week 😀 previously told me he had had enough of the forum, as a lot people took over talking crap all the time. The forum is not as it was a few years ago 😜 -
Chuffed for Jason as he’s been wanting to don The Aces colours for a few years now but our penchant for making our own stars has meant no room at the inn for him. Though he’s no Dan I’m hoping he can get back to something like he was when returning to the UK in 2022. He finished his glorious stint with Swindon on an 8.96 and will no doubt be looking to get nearer to that than his finishing average of just 7.86 last season. He should fit in with the British based Aussies in the team and linking up with his national team manager will see things run smoothly. I don’t know if the short term phrase is being bandied about in an attempt to re introduce Dan following his recuperation as just working off averages it would not be possible due to taking us over the limit.
-
I wish him well. Not my favourite rider, but you know what you are getting with him. At least it's back to a full team again with Kildemand and Blodorn back
-
You start by saying you are not assessing on an individual basis but finish by criticising an individual meeting. Last night's meeting was affected by the weather and Edinburgh looked beaten before a wheel was turned, ok fair enough have a couple of heats to assess it but after that they should have been able to compete but showed little desire to do so. Last night's conditions should have suited Edinburgh or any away team as when conditions change it usually suits the away team and Redcar proved last season we are not unbeatable at home.

I think Mayfield have saved us and the league. For which we should all be grateful. Unfortunately, the speedway authorities are just delaying the inevitable collapse of speedway in the UK. In my opinion ( not universally popular I guess) the quicker we get a reset the better. Back to one league and get the youngsters on board and make the bloody sport viable again!

Top banter fellas Delighted to see Doyley back and wish him all the best
-
As with Mikkelsen and Ljung (plus another whose name is dont recall) at Leicester ten years ago, the promotion talked complete batrubbish and as is often the case, people believed it!
-
Decent signing for the Aces and good to see Doyle back in British speedway.

Is the encampment still there? -
I get what you are saying and Ipswich is a gaters track and not a great track I agree … let’s be fair Kurtz is a great gater probably the worlds best … he didn’t make one start that night and showed absolutely no desire to try and mix it from third or fourth …. Not that our track lends itself to good racing I thought it was a poor effort … like you say maybe an off night but I honestly think he didn’t try that hard… i understand why I’m not that foolish but there are other riders (your own Bewley being one of them) who would have still tried maybe to no avail As I said id like to see Kurtz win the title
-
All depends on how riders like Blodorn Cook and Tate do away from home As much as I’m happy to see Doyle over here it definitely makes Belle Vue weaker than it did with Bewley so I don’t see why all of a sudden they are favourites Sheffield or Leicester for me
-
Fair point well made. Though I disagree with your point that he didn’t try at all for his club. Call me naive but I wouldn’t imagine any professional sportsman would have it in them to not try at the very least. Because with that mentality, they’d never make it to be a professional sportsman in the first place. Maybe the night in question that you’re referring to was an off night. Everybody has them now and again.
-
I’m absolutely delighted Doyle is back in British speedway we need the big names ….. and let’s be fair it could have been much worse…. He could have gone to Sheffield which would be unforgivable lol Ipswich fans who are angry are just fools who have no idea about the sport …. All the uncertainty over the winter meant Doyle did what’s right for him ….. am I angry …. No… would I have liked him at Ipswich …. Absolutely
-
You have this weird fascination about me disliking Kurtz I guess reading isn’t your strong point because I said last season and this season that I wanted Kurtz to win the world title But I stand by the fact he let Belle Vue down in the play offs last season…. Yes he has a world championship to go for but he didn’t try at all for his club … something Bewley wouldn’t do and neither the new signing Doyle I also mentioned his poor score at Sheffield this season as a pointer to the fact he has to step up a bit more this season now there is no Bewley … he has to get 12 or 13 most weeks minimum If you feel that those opinions mean I dislike him then you can run with that to suit your agenda If he is leading the world championship or in with a shout around the play offs and he still bangs in big scores then fair play …

Any news on the comets line up ? -
Why oh why do you continue to watch Poole meetings then? Your brain must be well addled! Its a shame you do the sport no favours at all by continually criticising......! Poole have won a fair number (not all) of their away meetings in recent seasons as well as home meetings - sometimes by big scores, sometimes by Superheats, often by gate-and-go .........
-
I’ve watched speedway for over 50 years and in my honest opinion the bikes have become too powerful for the tracks. Once these riders hit the dirt line they are gone, as was depicted at the recent GP in Manchester. On the first night Frick gated and was gone with each rider subsequently following his line. I thought the second night produced better racing, but over the years I’ve witnessed riders going wider and wider only inches from the fence. I don’t have any immediate answers but unfortunately engine progress is ultimately defining the sport we enjoy. I never thought I’d see the day when a speedway rider would have a laptop plugged into his bike!

Dont recall Sam Masters doing overly well at his previous appearances at northside. Dayle wood should win heat 2 as he can gate and stick it to inside line. Expect a lot of 0s and 1s after that though. My concerns are McDiarmid and Kennett. Both are racers and as the meeting develops they'll love the outside line. Should be close but expecting a comets win if Cookie shows up. If not, depends on the guest.
