The only reason the 'other sport' (stock car racing) was kicked out was because they needed a large piece of land for pit space, and with only 3 or 4 meetings a year, a prime piece of land was sitting dormant most of the time. That land is now being used for something to do with solar energy storage, creating an income source 365 days a year. The greyhound side of things is very lucrative, so no the stadium is not under any threat of redevelopment. Therefore, there is no reason to suspect that speedway can't continue there. Just a case of people on here making 2 + 2 = 5.

Sheffield - for sale
THE DEAN MACHINE replied to Cue Ball's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
No, it’s well prepared and on the whole smooth and except for hitting the dirt line is not hard to ride, it’s not technical and doesn’t really have straights and although it’s fast it’s not really difficult to ride at speed but it takes balls to hit the dirt line so close to the fence but as I said they could take away that dirt line but the riders want it -
They are out

Is Sheffield sustainable for a new promoter to pay out for?? There's been some very public issues for other sports at the venue in recent history, being kicked out. Are the current promotion aware the stadium owners have other plans for the near future?? Going Down the Coventry route, possibly?? "Money not object" owners, for the whole of Speedway in general, is the only way to save this sport. Every single club that doesn't own their own Arena is at serious serious risk. Isn't Poole also on the chopping block?? One of British Speedway's "richest" clubs?? ____________________________ Year after year we think this sport has possibly hit 'rock bottom' but the bad news just keeps coming. Don't know how it could possibly happen, but we really could do with some of that Middle Eastern Oil money right now.

What will 2026 UK speedway bring?
JamesB replied to Lionsman66's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I have never been in favour of reducing down the standard/quality of anything in an attempt to make it more attractive. It’s an oxymoron. The idea that you can simply share out the likes of Doyle, Sayfutdinov, Bewley, Kurtz, Holder, Fricke, etc, etc across a broader group of teams just doesn’t hold water. The first problem is that it assumes that all clubs in a combined league can afford them which is incredibly unlikely. Even in a 7 team Premiership, it is clear that there are clubs that have deeper pockets than others resulting in a significant gap between them. That problem will just be worse in a combined league as teams choose to ride in the Championship for a reason which surely is primarily a financial one. The second problem is that it assumes that the riders concerned will simply accept that they have to move on to a different team. Some may do, some won’t. Anyway, let’s wait and see what the exciting future looks like. -
Matt Ford was someone well ahead of the curve... He realised that he could run 2nd tier Speedway using around three quarters of 1st tier riders... Thus charging less for pretty much the same product... Yet, plenty seem to moan about him....??? Maybe more Matt Ford's and the sport would be far more pro active and successful?

Moving up then.

Thought Sheffield was the worst though as a fast track for generating speed
-
Think the team as a whole will look a lot more different from my understanding for 2026, very exciting!

Wouldn’t make any difference to the promotional cost as they are paid by the TV company -

Unbelievable yet again, but the rain is scheduled between 1pm and 7pm, with it being at its very worst.....around 3-4pm !! This is now getting bizzarre ! Same forecast each Saturday for last 4 weeks ! I very much doubt this meeting will go ahead. -

No. Brands in sporting bodies do not operate in the way you suggest. -
Poole Blue Riband 24/9/25

He could have claimed it was rubbish as he's only been used to Premiership tracks recently, but he was just being honest having finished on the podium. -

Ask Matt Ford, if Poole can do it I am sure Sheffield can.

I suppose the salient question is does Sheffield Speedway in its current state stand on its own two feet

Are there any more Tolley's out there? Guess we will find out soon enough

SGP New promotor from 2026
noaksey replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Presumably until they can get costs under control they won't be sanctioning anything that will potentially cost money. Not very exciting but it might save the series in the long term -
My first thought about the team Steve puts forward concerns the youth/lack of experience. So B.Bailey at number 2 I assume. Youth is no bad thing when its going well, but a bit of an unknown when the pressure is on.
