I don't think anyone is claiming it is ideal, logistics and accommodation affect everyone. However I think on this occasion it's best to take a bit more time to think things through for the longer term, and hopefully a lot more straightforward in future. Some of the issues are beyond the BSPL, waiting for legal processes or 3rd party discussions etc to run through. Hopefully light at the end of the tunnel now.

... if you build it, they will come. They used to think that about the crowds, now they think that about the riders!
-
The pessimist in me is thinking it’s Ipswich with the bad news. The wording “there will be some sort of update on Tuesday” doesn’t fill me with confidence that they will be announcing either a completed sale, or any rider signings today. Just another non update of “sorts”. I could be completely and utterly wrong of course. Let’s hope I am.

Bad news is always buried behind good news 😛 pick which one is bad news

Maybe they should follow the International format and teams are made up of three riders?
-
Which is why the fixation from the BSP in bringing back the likes of Coventry, Peterborough, Swindon and Wolves, leaves me perplexed... Who would these teams get to ride for them? One of the main augments against one league was the lack of riders of a certain level... What level would be needed to find another 28 team spots? Maybe instead of guesting it became official that one rider represented two teams in the same league?..

I’m not stressed, Ian. I just don’t think we should normalise low standards. British speedway repeatedly forces its fans to accept the bare minimum as success. That mindset is contributing to the slow death of the sport we love. I’ve raised valid points around logistics, accommodation, hospitality, governance, etc. and those points don’t disappear because the inept BSPL have issued the fixtures over a month later than last season, despite the sport’s blatant decline.

The hospitality boxes on the third and fourth bends at Ashfield. It’s a great set-up. It’s become a bit of a tradition between myself, friends, family and even colleagues on the odd occasion.

The calm before the storm.

What time we thinking then?

Will there be an announcement today, Tuesday? It would clash with the much-heralded and long-awaited release of the 2026 Championship fixture list ...

Absolutely correct. Those in charge are deluded and while one league could work using a broader scale of riders (excluding GP riders and those plying the trade in Poland etc..) the sport in the UK is beyond redemption. If UK speedway continues to believe that it has a role to play on the world stage it is kidding no one but itself. Individual riders may make it to the top but the run of the mill league speedway rider in the UK may produce the odd one or two who can crack the mould and reach the top but most are average but still very capable of entertaining the punters who will then feel that they are getting value for money from an entertainment perspective. 2027 needs planning now but whether those in charge acknowledge this is another issue. Statements to date from the BSPL leave the door open but who can trust them as custodians of the sport?

World of Sport served up the big names! but even back then I was in a real minority liking speedway when at school. What’s that, my football loving mates said. I use to like knowing about my niche sport back then and being different from the sheep and their football. After the post war boom in the sport, by the time it got to the halcyon days in many fans memories of the 70’s, there was still people saying “is that still going”. We absolutely need something new and I don’t mind admitting I’m (we) are not the solution. There is a whole new world of social media that I (we) cannot get our heads around. We need the fomo effect and need to abandon the continued old school approach of leaflets, newspaper ads (young people at my partners work asked her what a newspaper is) and all the other old school techniques. My daughter has worked with Molly-Mea and sport personalities in her role with a major sports brand and it’s all French to me no matter how she tries to explain it. IMO that’s our last hope, Joe Wicks, KSI, Steven Bartlett and all the others old farts like me have never heard of. What they will also bring is a sensibility of what modern customers want. Just hope we like it too.
