Zach holds his cards very close to his chest - either by design or instruction - but several of the pits personnel reckon he'll stay despite getting a contract with Lodz! I would expect an announcement on Wednesday - or whenever the last meeting takes place! If he does go, I wonder if he and brother Ben will have to seek alternative accomodation??

It is always clear, when they interview riders in English during a Polish match, that they follow the sport over here, and often discuss, with prior knowledge, how they are doing in the UK... UK Speedway, (off track), has a huge opportunity for growth, from marketing, advertising, and awareness raising, through to operating model credibility... Will they bring in people with the required skill set to deliver the obvious potential the sport has though? Tracks will spend eye watering sums (for a sport with such a small following), on riders each season, and that alone should be used to give the sport some push, as many non Speedway fans would be truly amazed at the salaries of some riders.. With those salaries alone suggesting it isn't "small time".... "Hype up everything" has to be the mantra of the sport to gain traction amongst the millions who live less than 45 mins from a Speedway track..... Any decent marketing company should be rubbing their hands at an opportunity to make UK Speedway successful given the ultra low base attendance across the country... Getting on mainstream TV, for me, is the quickest way to kick that growth in...

Although I’m no great fan of Tatum as a commentator and agree that at a good number times he appears to lack knowledge of basic topics relating to riders, it is a tad unfair to compare his performance with football commentators. who besides there own research & prep are provided with up to date media guides by the teams which contain a wealth of information about each player as well as having A "spotter" in the booth with binoculars to identify players and provide crucial information. There are also statisticians in the production truck providing “in ear” information on stats/time gone, remaining - subs warming up etc. That type of support is something Kelv can only dream about.

I really can't see Uncle Mark Philips letting his nephew go unless something dramatically goes wrong?!

Ben Fund 2025 Collection
Son of Shaleman replied to ShanoXtra's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Berwick are always standout Kent collection was late in season and some supporters will have donated at other tracks -
Marcelina and the other Polish female presenters all come over well and know there stuff about the sport.

That and everyone's been going well on the continent when in fact they're really struggling winds me up no end. It takes 2 minutes to have a read through the Polish results on a Monday morning before a TV meet to throw some colour and insight into things. Unless its Erik Riss and his long track achievements he hasn't a clue what's going on. I've never watched a football match where the commentators don't know anything about a player on the pitch.
-
Does Kelvin have a clue who some riders are? "I'll be honest, I don't know much about him" is a refrain heard far too often.... One of the key requirements of a commentator is to do research and inform the viewers of some background details about the competitors... His enthusiasm is first rate, but his lack of general speedway knowledge outside of the Premiership doesn't help...

What will 2026 UK speedway bring?
Aries replied to Lionsman66's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Seems to be a closely guarded secret! We can only guess by looking at previous years. Last year the AGM concluded on November 14th so you’d assume it’ll be around the same this year. -

They probably wouldn't have done, which isn't ideal for him, but that's how it goes. Either accept the lottery of the RS scheme or accept the lottery of opting out. It would've been a shame for a young Brit to miss out obviously, but why bother with any sort of rules if you just don't apply them? I think we agree on the general point, the intention of the concept was a good idea, but it was bungled again by the people who created it. As you say, why bother announcing a rule that they don't bother following? I just wish they'd properly review the rules and regs and then stick to me, no budging. Too many times it's the tail wagging the dog or they've painted themselves into a corner like this. -
What will 2026 UK speedway bring?

With all these in “ in the know rumours “ when is the Actual Annual Conference of Promoters. When will the Official Statement regarding next season come out.(I know this season hasn’t finished yet) -
But they wouldn’t have done. The only way Jenkins would have gotten in at Ipswich this year was at rising star. You say “that’s life” which of course is your prerogative and opinion, but I’m pretty sure nobody else would have picked him as a senior reserve at number six either so a young Brit would end up missing an opportunity if he’d “opted out” of the scheme. The whole idea to start with was to help these young Brits. The flip side to that I guess would be that someone else on the list would have gotten an opportunity instead. A staggered pick based on league positions from a totally different season was a really poor idea in the first place so lord above knows why they came out with it. Worth remembering also that all signings made including rising stars are “subject to ratification by the BSPL” so if indeed there wasn’t any priority picks and they were all content to let everyone choose who they wanted, then why bother announcing that rule to start with? 🤷🏼♂️

What next is a good question and one that I'm sure that Forever Panthers will be watching very closely. This, from Peterborough Today - "In particular, there was huge opposition to the fact the development would mean the end of more than 50 years of speedway racing at the Peterborough Panthers track. However, the refusal does not automatically mean a return to the venue for speedway." - is a step up from Butterfield saying that speedway will not return irrespective of planning. That was just bullying, and with the EEAS allegedly fallen out with AEPG, I suspect that decision is now out of his hands? Unfortunately no quick fix though it would appear.

Ipswich Witches 2025
PersonalResponsibility replied to Aries's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
That just reinforces what a daft system it was allowed to become. It is really classic speedway that something as straightforward as a draft can end up in a mess. X clubs, X riders, everyone picks one each in the reverse order of last year's league - how can anyone possibly mess that up? It's amazing. If Jordan Jenkins didn't want to lose all of his local sponsorship - which is absolutely fair btw - then he had the choice to opt-out of the RS scheme and wait for Ipswich to sign him. If they didn't, that's life. How many other riders have to go elsewhere up and down the country to get a job? -
Loftus is a good prospect, as is Jody Scott. I'd love to see both of them, but honestly, I hope they re-sign with their respective clubs. They gave them a chance and it would be nice to see the clubs reap the benefit next year.

Any thoughts on who would offer scope to improve with less risk if we did have 5.89 left available IF we signed the other 6 I mentioned. Besides Mcdiarmid has a lot of potential but still only 17. On the who's within that points range mentioned on page 1 by A Speedway Fan there isn't much that inspires me. Of course there is Kevin Juhl Pedersen who made a short visit in Oct for The Blue Ribbon plus a Worky Ind event. But he has ridden for Holsted in DK last 4 years which of course is a Wed night. His Av in 3rd tier of POL for Landshut was only 4 points per meeting from 12 meetings so arguably even worse then Bowes who at least rode one decent meeting at Poole. I think Pedersen would be a worse signing than Bowes in my opinion. Would point out we can all get it wrong. I thought when Ben Cook came over in 2020 (before season cancelled for Covid) that ba\sed on his Aussie form that he would struggle in UK. Fair to say I got that thankfully horribly wrong 😃. He av 5.31 or 6.11 incl bonus in that first season from 15 meetings as missed some with injury. The rest is history. Anyway do you have an idea who would be ideal bearing in mind that if we do sign Bailey/Rushen with Cairns they would all be very young at 16 when season starts.

I thought it was interesting at the SON that Marcelina came across as a lot more natural than Abi often does. Maybe she's just a better presenter, but it is clear she's genuinely a speedway fan. There was one point in an interview with Kurtz that she recalled his league debut at Torun. It was completely minor at the time, but it stuck in my head. Does Abi have a clue who most riders are riding for outside of the meeting she's at? I feel like that depth just adds something. It might be team mates in Poland facing off, a rider's Polish/Swedish track compared to that meeting's track, etc., it would get that whole close-knit family aspect of speedway.
