Sad news to report this morning, the passing of Billy Bales, he was 94.

Sad news indeed! My Dad saw him ride for Yarmouth.

Yes, very sad news. He was a regular at the annual Norwich WSRA Dinner, so I met him many times over the last 20 years or so. A really nice bloke always happy to chat about his Yarmouth and Norwich days.

Sad news indeed. Billy was a lovely guy and always a pleasure to chat to. A regular at the WSRA lunch in Norwich, Billy will be sadly missed. My condolences to his family.

Sorry to  read about this. I recall Billy in the first year of BL (1965) I seem to recall he rode for Sheffield Tigers in that great speedway year. A nice and approachable guy.

Was in the Sheffield team in 1968 when i first started going, passed his best but could still put in a good performance

Both his sons Ray and Andrew both rode and Ray had a useful career especially when he moved to Mildenhall after a couple of lean years at King's Lynn. I believe that Billy's name was Raymond but he was always referred to as Billy?

His name was Raymond Arthur Bales. Apparently, when he first started at Norwich, Stars manager Dicky Wise could never remember "Raymond", and started calling him "Billy". It just stuck...
