Plans for next season ?

Recommended Posts

2024 Premier(shi*) League:

* Four teams

* Fixed Monday night racing (avoids Polish clashes)

* All four teams to race home fixtures that night. Away teams to be made up of Championship double uppers.

* Chris Harris to appear at least once for each team.

" A, B, C, D, E fixtures ensures a plausible 30 match league structure.

* Knock out Cup to give credibility.

* Play Offs & Pairs to be retained.

Simples :(

Stop talking about superstars….  Superstars in speedway mean nothing to the general public.

Sayfudinov… Laguta … Doyle …. Bewley. …   Pedersen ( ok, for about 200m) We’ve been told for years that this is the solution ….

guess what ?  They’ve been here this year and it’s made sod all difference

spend the money paying professionals to try and drag this dying sport into the 21st century

At what point do Discovery Sports intervene?

Or in Lambert and Bewley do they have enough British interest for the duration of their tenure?

From their perspective having British involvement in SGP, SON/SWC must be an important market to maintain.

Much harder to do without a British supply chain/valid domestic league.

They also need content for their streaming/cable channel,

Personally I think a Euro League (16 teams 4TT format) where each team has five home and 15 away fixtures. If there were three British teams (North (Belle Vue) Midlands (?) and South (Poole)) there'd be only 15  gp standard meetings in the UK. That gives you space to market these events properly. Less is more so hopefully these events will attract bumper crowds. Which makes for a better spectacle which hopefully attracts a bigger audience.

Below that the twelve or so last clubs standing form a sustainable league without the gp stars which provides a career path for young British talent to progress.

FWIW, my thoughts...

Race on fixed nights so many of the riders can race for every team in both leagues as and when needed..

Let Poland dictate at short notice whether riders can race over here, and plan in meetings on Thursdays in the top league so Poland can use those riders when they rearrange fixtures, meaning plenty of guest opportunities..

Use the TV money to pay for superstars rather than use it to market the sport, or reduce admission prices, in fact, increase the cost of admission by at least a quid to help pay these riders..

Set a team strength level that will ensure all teams are equal and see those teams who the speedway fanbase suggest "have no bloody chance", pre season, struggle throughout the season, and possibly close down before the season ends, or, at least, need a sabbatical to regroup..

Build all rules and regs with enough ambiguity and subjectivity to ensure that they are open to manipulation, which will hopefully then deliver the required level of astonishment and disillusionment in even its most loyal fanbase..

Possibly, most importantly, each promotion work in splendid isolation, rather than as a collective for the generic betterment of the sport which supersedes any individual ambition, as it really is important that your team wins the league because the operating model means it delivers such high reward and publicity...

I think this could work, a bit radical, but worth a go surely? ;)

So the same rules as this year then lol!

There are radical plans amongst some of the promoters for the 2024 season.

Waiting on more detail, will fill you in around lunch time but it's basically 1 league inc the stand alone NDL teams.

I know it’s not viable but I want belle Vue to join the polish 2nd tier like landshut have done and douga, obviously costs are a lot higher but so is the TV rights and sponsorship.

only problem is the travelling for riders. But they drive to Sweden for matches via a ferry. So can UK

If one positive thing for 2024 happens its for the mafia to forget the NDL exists and let them control thier own destiny rather than have rules imposed that close down tracks.

Even more hopefully is that there will be one standalone league next year and it will be the Nora league.

Is Discovery / Eurosport / BT / Sky not actually "the elephant in the room"

What money the Sport has received from those it has truly "spaffed up" and increasingly it's become a CLOSED SHOP!

BSN has shown that in-house streaming can deliver a product that is not in any way a "poor relative" for Speedway fans and if correct delivered a near 5 figure sum to CL Clubs last year. To each of the Clubs via Pooling resource.

HOW MANY NEW FANS ARE ATTRACTED BY MSM - (the above)

Is it not time to take Speedway OFF MSM and to make it stand on its own 2 feet?

BSN delivered more financial input to CL Clubs last year than "the above" have done in the past decade.

Back to Basics, cut costs and cloth accordingly and rebuild from the bottom up with "whats left" and what's sustainable.

Better to be paid £50-£80 per point than NOT paid £100- £200 a point and 4 figure guarantees.

LOCAL Advertising, LOCAL initiatives FAR more likely to attract NEW support than DISCOVERY. Local Radio does a cracking job in some areas as an example.

one division yes but NL is essential to clubs not able to compete financially, as well as rider development and tracks that want 2nd teams.

I think it was 5 years but then covid hit so that was moved on one year, so it should come to an end in 2026... unless they buy themselves out of it like Sky did
