  1. Here we go.....Just wondering, are Poole fans negative about every club or is it just BV ? In the space of a week.... "Fricke is under performing" "Drozdz will be a failure " Bewley is "over hyped" Now "Cook will struggle " far to early to be making any judgement on any rider from any team , IMO

  2. Teams from! - why We know the order from Sunday and that'll not change much and the Ippo line up for Fri (on their website as it always is) should be similar if not the same. (yes it is a constant whinge I know)

  3. So if people dont agree with your opinions , you dont want them to quote your posts ? Im afraid thats not how forums work,

  4. "a big man in a small place" starman a ludicrous statement and a touch insulting to somerset speedway, speak regularly to a guy who goes nearly all poole and somerset meetings and was his opinion that last yr of the two, somerset had the better crowds. Its very possible in fact probable that somerset have the better business model, they own their stadium so dont have to pay say 50/100 k yr in rent(pure guess)they keep all food and drink receipts and any car park receipts plus income from all other events at the stadium,of the two businesses to most businessmen i would think somerset would be the more attractive option

  9. We've been down this road before, the last one a few years ago,a 10,000 seater stadium was being planned including computer graphic pictures, but as usual nothing came of it,as many have said what is the point if the demand isn't there,it would be another white elephant, but that's Cumbria County council all over experts at wasting public money

  10. I too am disappointed by Cook's form in the GP's that haven't started yet.

  11. If there is any chance of dragging the sport of speedway into anything like modern times, teams racing in identical race suits must be part of that. After all the vast majority of the sport is a team event so should reflect that, when riders go to race in individual events and want to look like an individual then fair enough but IMO a team event you should look like a team.

  12. Absolutely good luck to Robert can’t fault him but we should be under no illusion we are bottom of the pile if that’s negative so be it I call it living in the real world .

  15. Well I’ve told the kids not to worry because I’ve come up with a plan B. Byron burger and then Cinema to watch Duck Duck Goose. I shouldn’t have mentioned it to them though cos they’ve now joined in with Taps’ “Chief pi$$ing down” rain dance

  17. I doubt Super League rugby would be cost effective without Sky money, not panicking, no point. Looks like good dry weather for Saturday, roll on.

  18. Which is to its detriment I feel. It should be marketed as an extreme sport that appeals to youngsters, rather than something you're likely to meet your granny at.

  19. I don't think Season ticket holders will stop going in any great numbers because as you say they have already paid up, however Poole do definitely have an issue with 'fair weather fans' who turn up regularly when successful but taper off when not doing so well.. To be fair, all clubs have the same issue, not just Poole, but given they generally have the highest attendances in the country 'when doing well', it just seems to impact Poole more when they have not such a good season.. My team for instance were pretty much dire for the last decade at the old track with a bottom two finish pretty regular every year, which meant crowds were not great but the 'hard core' 1000 or so went virtually every week regardless of result. Poole, in particular, seem to have 1000-1500 or so more fans each week I would say when doing well, whereas BV would only get around 200-300 more if having a 'successful' season.. Hence, Poole are probably victims of their own success over the last ten years or so, in that they created an expectation for their fans which is unrealistic to keep delivering in a Sport that changes team strengths so much with its 'survival of the weakest' Mickey Mouse rules.... Add in the 'halcyon days' of the 'turbo twins' in their pomp, who would also have brought people in, and you can see why the Poole of today (and Matt Ford in particular) need to try and stay one step ahead of the game when it comes to successfully building teams.. And no one should blame him for finding an angle in team building if it is legally there for him to find in the first place.. Poole Speedway has to make a profit, and to do that it with the make up of it's fan base, it appears to have to be successful to deliver that profit.. And lets be honest, there's nothing wrong with aspiring to be the best..

  20. No need really to trial anything... They already have the control mechanic to reduce any drawn out evenings. . It's called the putting the riders on '2 minutes'!! They just need to bloody use it properly!! Put everyone on two minutes after say two minutes of the previous race finishing.. I would also add that if there is an unsatisfactory start then absolutely no pit gates open and the riders come back round straight away, meaning the bike you started the race on is the one you start the re-run on.... No faffing around adjusting clutches or indeed any other mechanical adjustments that get disovered by the 'false start'. (And surely fuel isn't required just by doing a false start)? Call the 2 minutes, and if the race hasnt already started by the time the full 2 minutes have expired, send the tapes up the moment 120 seconds have past and start the race, riders ready or not. (Excluding them will just delay meetings further whilst decisions get made as who will race in the re-run/riders go back to the pits gate to 'faff' with their bikes).. It will take a fortnight or so I reckon to embed the consistent use of what already exists, but isn't used anyway near effectively enough currently..

  21. For anybody who has seen Ipswich's racesuits this year, that is EXACTLY the reason why all top flight teams at least should have them. Marketing and professionalism almost to perfection!

  22. You obviously are not aware of the new drainage installed over the winter then by the Town Mayor and his team at the OTA! I reckon if the practice was this evening on track it would have happened but typically this year they change it to the afternoon and the weather still wins. Track looked pretty good this evening at 7pm.

  30. Somerset's practice has been cancelled today. I'd say that makes Poole favourites for both legs now having already put in plenty of laps at their own track.

  31. There are a few others that spring to mind but it is strange how it caught out around 1/2 dozen riders in challenge meetings but none at Peterborough Sunday in the CS meeting. Were the riders trying to prove a point. Riders above a 6 point average now allowed in Championship from Premiership but in rules still not. Should have kept the "at least 2 Brits" in squad or al least 1 in a reserve position to allow riders to progress. There are still riders out of a team place similar to 2017 for having the wrong average to fit yet they allow a list of 260 riders to be circulated from abroad, who start in the Premiership on a 4 or Championship on 5.2. The addition of a time clock on the centre green now seems to be a must to assist referees, start marshals, riders & the paying public.

  33. This is a photo of Harringay from the excellent Defunct Speedways site. It looks to me like the riders in the original photo are walking by the picket fence running down from the stand to the dog track.

  35. Scott, I dont know much about Edinburgh set up, but worth investigating. I was hoping all of the problems of the recent past were out of the window, with Scott & Jamie in charge, a better rapport would be happening. It appears that the old demands have returned, instead of working for the benefit of the club in a harmonious way. I would never dream of picking an arguament with my customers, it would only me that would be the loser.

  36. Forcing riders to stay on their bikes didn't speed up anything. It just meant that riders spent the same amount of time gardening and moving back from the tapes but without dismounting. It also made no difference to the time they spent ignoring the Start Marshall's indications that they should move up to the tapes. As has been said, to make an effective difference all that is needed is a 2 minute clock and referees to disqualify any rider not at the tapes and ready to start within that time limit.

  37. didnt workington town recently renew or extend there lease ? i could see a possibility of it happening sometime but it would be at 1 off the 2 grounds as theres no way there is enough money to build a new purpose built stadium its just some council talk you know the type 1 that opens there mouth while what brain they have is in sleep mode all 3 rugby football and speedway at the moment are not cost efective clubs/teams none of them can pay the bills on gate money alone

  41. Absolutely, couldn't agree more but it was a general point.....don't bring a rule in without trialling it in some form first. As other sports do. It's asking for trouble if not, and risks making the decision makers look silly.

  44. It's all well and good saying this is a holding team until Polish teams release the riders they don't want is making the assumption that we could afford to sign any of them when they become available. Lets just get behind the riders putting on the Diamonds race bibs and enjoy watching speedway.

  48. No idea why this quote line is here??? Anyway, don't really have a lot of time for Chris, but if true it's regarding his personal relationship, son etc., he has my heartfelt sympathy. As a father in a broken relationship he will get the thin edge every time, I truly hope for his sake it's only a couple of weeks, but don't bank on it. 10 years down the line my son is still having his daughter used against him Good luck Chris

  49. As I have stated before I am for team race suits. The only riders that should wear bibs are Chris and Jack Holder and Troy Batchelor due to their childish behaviour last season and beyond.Let them have race suits when they mature a little.lol.
