  1. Here we go.....Just wondering, are Poole fans negative about every club or is it just BV ? In the space of a week.... "Fricke is under performing" "Drozdz will be a failure " Bewley is "over hyped" Now "Cook will struggle " far to early to be making any judgement on any rider from any team , IMO

  2. Teams from! - why We know the order from Sunday and that'll not change much and the Ippo line up for Fri (on their website as it always is) should be similar if not the same. (yes it is a constant whinge I know)

  4. "a big man in a small place" starman a ludicrous statement and a touch insulting to somerset speedway, speak regularly to a guy who goes nearly all poole and somerset meetings and was his opinion that last yr of the two, somerset had the better crowds. Its very possible in fact probable that somerset have the better business model, they own their stadium so dont have to pay say 50/100 k yr in rent(pure guess)they keep all food and drink receipts and any car park receipts plus income from all other events at the stadium,of the two businesses to most businessmen i would think somerset would be the more attractive option

  9. We've been down this road before, the last one a few years ago,a 10,000 seater stadium was being planned including computer graphic pictures, but as usual nothing came of it,as many have said what is the point if the demand isn't there,it would be another white elephant, but that's Cumbria County council all over experts at wasting public money

  11. If there is any chance of dragging the sport of speedway into anything like modern times, teams racing in identical race suits must be part of that. After all the vast majority of the sport is a team event so should reflect that, when riders go to race in individual events and want to look like an individual then fair enough but IMO a team event you should look like a team.

  15. Well I’ve told the kids not to worry because I’ve come up with a plan B. Byron burger and then Cinema to watch Duck Duck Goose. I shouldn’t have mentioned it to them though cos they’ve now joined in with Taps’ “Chief pi$$ing down” rain dance

  18. Which is to its detriment I feel. It should be marketed as an extreme sport that appeals to youngsters, rather than something you're likely to meet your granny at.

  19. I don't think Season ticket holders will stop going in any great numbers because as you say they have already paid up, however Poole do definitely have an issue with 'fair weather fans' who turn up regularly when successful but taper off when not doing so well.. To be fair, all clubs have the same issue, not just Poole, but given they generally have the highest attendances in the country 'when doing well', it just seems to impact Poole more when they have not such a good season.. My team for instance were pretty much dire for the last decade at the old track with a bottom two finish pretty regular every year, which meant crowds were not great but the 'hard core' 1000 or so went virtually every week regardless of result. Poole, in particular, seem to have 1000-1500 or so more fans each week I would say when doing well, whereas BV would only get around 200-300 more if having a 'successful' season.. Hence, Poole are probably victims of their own success over the last ten years or so, in that they created an expectation for their fans which is unrealistic to keep delivering in a Sport that changes team strengths so much with its 'survival of the weakest' Mickey Mouse rules.... Add in the 'halcyon days' of the 'turbo twins' in their pomp, who would also have brought people in, and you can see why the Poole of today (and Matt Ford in particular) need to try and stay one step ahead of the game when it comes to successfully building teams.. And no one should blame him for finding an angle in team building if it is legally there for him to find in the first place.. Poole Speedway has to make a profit, and to do that it with the make up of it's fan base, it appears to have to be successful to deliver that profit.. And lets be honest, there's nothing wrong with aspiring to be the best..

  20. No need really to trial anything... They already have the control mechanic to reduce any drawn out evenings. . It's called the putting the riders on '2 minutes'!! They just need to bloody use it properly!! Put everyone on two minutes after say two minutes of the previous race finishing.. I would also add that if there is an unsatisfactory start then absolutely no pit gates open and the riders come back round straight away, meaning the bike you started the race on is the one you start the re-run on.... No faffing around adjusting clutches or indeed any other mechanical adjustments that get disovered by the 'false start'. (And surely fuel isn't required just by doing a false start)? Call the 2 minutes, and if the race hasnt already started by the time the full 2 minutes have expired, send the tapes up the moment 120 seconds have past and start the race, riders ready or not. (Excluding them will just delay meetings further whilst decisions get made as who will race in the re-run/riders go back to the pits gate to 'faff' with their bikes).. It will take a fortnight or so I reckon to embed the consistent use of what already exists, but isn't used anyway near effectively enough currently..

  21. For anybody who has seen Ipswich's racesuits this year, that is EXACTLY the reason why all top flight teams at least should have them. Marketing and professionalism almost to perfection!

  22. Not speedway fans. Just trolls that hit various sites stirring it. Place on ignore as the only way to defeat them is not to feed them. Also there’s a good chance they are the same person.

  28. Exactly, he is part of a squad. He will ride when available. I'm all for giving the club and its riders a kicking if they deserve it on the back of something that's actually happened, but moaning like some have on here today is embarrassing.

  30. No. The governing body don't decide. If there's a tie, and they have a previous average, then the one with the highest average in the previous month takes priority. But in this case where they've all always been 3.00, then it's up to the club to nominate which one goes in the top 5. I just think from a common-sense point of view, it wouldn't be wise to put a 15-year-old into the main body for his league debut.

  33. As it was a dry day, I took the trip down the M2 to Iwade on Sunday to see the Kent team practice. Have to say, I was highly impressed with all of them. Rowe looked very fast and Stoneman looked none the worse for his injury. Of the tail enders I was most impressed with Clouting. Neat and smooth. Got faster as the day wore on. Think they've unearthed a talent there.

  34. It's certainly not looking good weather wise for either of these meetings to go ahead on Friday, I think our best chance to see some speedway this weekend is at Peterborough on Sunday.

  37. Nice Personal Insult Thank You Im Guessing Your Another Gentleman Approching Hes 70s. Look at the sports that stopped restricting foreigners in the 90s there all thriving now get record deals year on year . Look at sports that still restrict foreigners or it's frowned on stuck where they were in the 90s if not gone backwards and in speedways case gone backwards massively. Now that's a fact either move with the times in every sense of just wait for the sport not to exist anymore in this country . Like I said before as with every sport i attend i don't give two hoots where the competitor comes from as long as I'm entertained . You may disagree with me but that's just my opinion.

  38. Not being a rye fan, the publicity side of things doesn't really bother me. As a paying punter, I would like to see a well run meeting with some decent racing on a well prepared track. Just like I saw at Peterborough on Sunday night, is that too much to ask.

  40. Look I agree the publicity is not great but how one forgets the last few years of Silver. Crap teams usually bottom three, favorites Bowen Boxall etc, no atmosphere, double headers that lasted two days not two hours and run down stadium. Scott and Jensen have produced the best team in years (Poole 30 Rye House 60 and Rye House 49 Swindon 27 come immediately to mind), track walks and a developing (slowly) stadium. Sure things aren't perfect and perhaps not how you would run the show but have some balance please.

  41. Not sure that will be too helpful for our chum from Cov, since the meeting starts at 1300 hours. Dry for Thursday and Saturday doesn't help us poor souls pitching up on Friday!

  42. Let's face it, SS would say the Aussie cricket team played by the rules if they were based in Poole. His glasses are so blue tinted, it's a wonder that he hasn't fallen off the quay at Poole because he can't see through them properly. Watch him at a speedway meeting, every decision that a referee makes against Poole is wrong.

  43. They did, that was entirely the problem.

  44. Spot on.... Watch any of the PDC darts streams from the 'floor tournaments' that take place almost weekly around the country as qualifiers for other TV tournaments. Many have no commentary at all.... Many are played in sports halls in front of 'one man and his dog' and sometimes played out in front of no public whatsoever. If a stream has any commentary it is often just someone detailing the scores.. It can very often be therefore mind numbingly dull, with the only sound heard being the match score announcer and the 'thud' of a dart going into the board. There's no way on earth watching that would get you 'into the darts'... Then equate that to watching darts on Sky and ITV... The SAME 'sport'. The SAME players, MVG, Anderson, Cross, Wright, Lewis, Wade etc etc have to play these 'floor tournaments' but its millions and millions of miles away from exactly the same thing played out on a Thursday night in the PL, in front of huge 10,000 crowds with commentators shouting out loudly what's happening above the ear splitting crowd noise. .. Tatum and Pearson bring their passion to the Sport, and as it's a high adrenaline, high octane Sport, there is nothing wrong with trying to impart how exciting it can actually be to a (often ignorant of Speedway) watching nation.. More power to their elbows (and vocal chords)...

  46. Just joined this forum as I’m sick of reading the dross people keep posting. Newcastle have signed 7 riders willing to try their best for the club and as a supporter that’s all we can hope for, a rider going to try their best in every heat they ride. It’s time people get behind the club instead of keep stating how much they are going to struggle, stay positive as paper teams never win the league anyway and get behind the lads and support the diamonds.

  48. What's the point in rearranging a 70th anniversary meeting anyway? Already so far behind the times. 70th Anniversary meetings in speedway are so 1998.

  49. "The anti-Poole mob" translates as "Speedway lovers sick of seeing rules being stretched to the limit by one club in particular and the spirit of them being tramp[led upon". There is a difference between being insightful and being one step ahead and acting on or influencing information or decisions which others are unaware of using inside information. That is the concern of the "Anit-Poole mob". It is a concern and a suspicion, not a fact. Of course the simple-minded will try to dress it up as being "In the best interests of the sport", or "all fair in love or war". Others see it as pettiness and sheer over-loyal ignorance. As long as you win who cares how, eh? Now, I'm pretty careful not to belong to a 'mob' which is a pretty pathetic term to use but rather to be expected from you. There is a rotten smell of corruption which while certainly not proved hangs over Wimborne Road. A stronger sport with integrity would have clamped down years ago. I still remember the remarkable coincidence of Poole riders suffering endless engine failures at Swindon many years back, just when Poole needed to get their riders' averages down. Even Leigh Adams commented on how suspicious it was. That was the start and it's been going on far, far too long.
