  1. To me it looked like Dale was trying to diffuse a situation which he thought was going to occur but hadn’t really got started and instead it made things worse. All a bit of a storm in a teacup really, he apologised and that should be that. Emotions run high in important meetings and I’m sure Etheridge will look on it this morning and feel a bit silly for his actions too. Not really worth people getting their knickers in a twist over IMO.

  3. If Etheridge was worried for his safety in heat 14 I suggest he takes up bowls or snooker and stops racing motorcycles.

  4. Fantastic news, brilliant. Stadia UK are always true to their word! So all the infrastructure will be place perfectly coming tapes up 2019!!! Sadly, having heard the bull$hit that the same company fed the public of Reading for 7 years - I doubt if anything will happen!

  5. And why on earth isn’t it any two riders of the team managers choice, subject to them not already having taken 7 rides or is that just too easy.

  6. Bradley doesn’t miss a meeting until this Saturday, we are just now exchanging teams with the opposition so this is the natural point to make the details public.

  7. And so it rumbles on with still no word on when the Glasgow v Workington semi final takes place . It really should be this weekend as the league title should take precedence over cup competitions , but since the Edinburgh v Worky cup semi is already penciled in for then , then it should be the same as the Peterborough v Lakeside semi which is the 6th and 7th of October . And yes i know we wont have our best rider , but so what ? If you sign a rider with all sorts of other commitments, then you have to expect and be prepared for fixture clashes . No wonder the sport in this country is in such a mess when the governing body allow the clubs to decide when they want to race . The four clubs should be told both semi finals are on the weekend of the 5th , 6th and 7th of October with the final the following weekend , deal with it .

  8. Bloody hell, I realise that Danny has struggled this season, but some of the personal things said about him on this thread is a bit too much don't you think? Danny was chosen to ride in Scunthorpe's 1-7 this season and there was plenty of opportunity to replace him BEFORE the cut off... But he wasn't and still has a contract to fulfil... He's doing the professional thing, even if he is struggling to do it well... Poor lad probably feels like sh*t after every meeting, not scoring point and losing money and comments on here will just be adding to it all... Please for the love of god, I hope Danny does not read this forum, or if he does, he realises how little the comments on here should matter to him, as long as he's having fun and making a living

  9. As a Witches fan, it must be horrible to see Lynn doing well. In every match, there are many Ifs and maybe's. I am well aware if you pick out specifics score you can get a any predicted outcome, but the facts remain, we finished top of the league, scoring 10pts more than most, and that included scoring the most points away from home than any other. I am well aware of other teams strengths and weaknesses and feel quietly confident that whoever we meet we can give a good account of ourselves.... Win or lose.....

  11. what a cracking team Kings Lynn have, very strong and entertaining. Palm Toft just looked class all night. R Lambert just oozes class and sublime in heats 13 and 15. Kings Lynns team manger should be applauded for trying to keep people apart. Belle Vue's track should be on the GP calendar, easily the best track in terms of racing and excitement in the UK.

  12. To go 10 points up against a strong KL team was a massive effort. However because of the missing riders, the latter heats were always going to be difficult and that’s how it proved to be. There are still 15 heats of speedway to come and while we all expect KL to prevail, it isn’t over yet. Well done both teams as I enjoyed watching the meeting - just love the racing from the NSS - that’s what speedway is all about not the dust bowl at Blunsdon or the bumpy motocross track at Poole.

  16. Massive loss for the club. He’s been riding well above his average and you’d have to go a long way to find a rider who puts in more effort than BWD.

  17. I'm not making excuses. I'm explaining the reality. The cheers are not because a rider has crashed, it's because your team has gained. When it's a big crash occasionally there is an initial cheer if your team has gained, followed by complete silence. It's not nice when a rider may be injured but there is no malice at all in 99.99% of the cases. The sport needs more passionate support such as this to create an atmosphere.. not total silence all the time which you tend to get from the 'older' generation. Part of why it's in the mess that it is.

  18. Heres my take on the Danny Phillips situation. With the team built as it was there was no pressure on Dan to score early on in the season just find his way back and get up to speed with things again after the injury. In fairness early season he was mixing it never far off the pace and picking up points here and there. Then the season takes a turn Steve Worral gets injured and the pressure then goes up a notch for Dan to score still not a huge issue as the team using rr is still capable of winning especially at home. Then the biggest turning point is the loss of Stefan Nielsen who was scoring way above his average and is almost impossible to replace either using guests or rr this compounded with Manzares getting hurt riding for The USA and his subsequent drop in form. This in turn leads to the team needing dan to score points and the pressure mounts on him and unfortunately he isn't able to step up and he goes backwards not even been in the mix after the tapes go up. last point earlier in the season Dan passes Kyle Bickley by turn two when going off 15m late in the season kyle beats him by half a lap when both starting from the tapes one develops the other hasnt

  19. You can't abide riders and team managers then, who have been seen on camera multiple times when a rider has slid off giving their team victory. What is 'abhorrent' is someone who believes people are cheering in the hope a rider may be hurt. The cheer is because their team has gained an advantage for 99.99% of fans. If Ermolenko fell at Cradley during a meeting the crowd would erupt in cheers. Did they want him hurt? Of course not (well a few nutters might). The same would happen back at Monmore with a Cradley rider. And it was FANTASTIC. As for the Proctor incident last night, of course there was no cheering, I doubt there would have been even in the matches I mention above, that wasn't a case of a rider 'sliding off and an instant celebratory cheer... it was an incident you saw developing and everyone thought was going to become a major crash. My reaction would have been a huge sigh of relief that he managed to fall so 'tamely' compared to what it could have been.

  20. A bit of handbags is never a bad thing. Well done to BT for keeping the cameras on it too. Etheridge had nothing to complain about but it escalated because of involvement from the Lynn side once the riders got back to the pit gate. I’ve never seen Simon Lambert move so fast, on or off a bike. If he had that kind of speed on the track he’d have had a much better career.

  22. Last night was the result I and every Aces supporter I spoke to at the stadium expected in our weakened state. King's Lynn are a good team and worked hard for a deserved victory. I won't write off our chances yet but it is a virtual mountain to climb and plainly the odds are very much against us. The 1-5, or 1-4 for the Aces, of both teams arguably underperformed, they scored 29-27 in favour of the Aces. The difference was Palm-Toft who, not for the first time at the NSS, was brilliant. However, those who seem to think that he will ride like that in every meeting need to look at his average. He might but equally he might score 4, it's the nature of the type of rider he is but he is a pleasure to watch when he is riding as he did last night and one of those riders who never gives up. I was in the Grandstand so saw the incident after heat 13 from the opposite side to the TV coverage. I didn't think that Jorgensen did anything too bad, hard but fair is I think the usual description. There was a bit of arm waving and wheel sliding on the way to the pits but to me it appeared that Simon Lambert was the cause of what followed. He went up to Etheridge in what appeared to be a threatening manner and then the KL team manager went up and attacked the mechanic. Maybe things were said which caused him to react, I don't know. I can understand riders reacting in the heat of the moment but team managers have no excuse. Some BV fans are being ridiculous and calling for wholesale team changes. They need to look at how riders have performed over the season, take account of injuries, see what the format is next year, look at individual rider averages and make considered suggestions. It's not over yet but we have done well to get so far considering Worrall and Bewley's injuries and, last night, losing Cook. With hindsight we might have done better with a guest for Cook and r/r for Bewley but it's water under the bridge.

  24. When trying to determine who is the greatest from the Uk you have to take into account what was going on at different times. Late 50's-early 60's there were 5 riders starting from 30 yard back - Craven, Briggs, Moore, Knutsson and Fundin - the untouchables, the aliens, call them what you will, it was between them 5, but that competition was HOT, but only one from the UK.. They really were a cut above the rest. Go into the 70's and the field was MUCH wider, Louis, Jessup, Betts, Simmo, Collins, Ashby, Kennet, Morton, Wilson, Wyer already been mentioned - throw in some fabulous foreigners and becoming a UK world champ became seriously more difficult due to the spread of talent. Same with the 80's/early 90's. Now, from the UK, Tai has has had no serious competition from a UK rider, and I got to say, a few years when the number of GP riders that could win a GP series has been depleted. Not today though, This all makes determining who is the greatest Uk world champ ever very difficult. I prefer to leave things at that - each era we have had something special, I just treasure that in my mind. We never going to get Craven, Collins, Lee, Woffinden on the same track with the same machines. Just treasure what we have had.

  25. Just because MPT scored a hatful last night doesn’t mean he would necessarily do the same at Somerset or Poole.

  26. He may have not ridden to his best lately but Jorgensen has had a terrific season and after watching heat 14 can do it when it matters and fights for the team. A real team effort tonight and Iversen finding some form at the right time.

  27. the good people of the speedway world are supporting dan in his quest to regain full fitness. locals and not so locals are helping him , these people set up these funds etc . so why dont kyles family , friends do exactly the same . there is nothing stopping them doing a bit of fund raising for him . if i remember, i THINK kyle walked away from that accident , where as wee dan was laying on the track for quite some time . the way i seen it was kyle was defending his position with dan really, really close and then mason was right behind them . it was not dans fault , it was a racing accident and they happen all the time . so if you feel kyle is not being supported, get out and do something about .belle vue, workington did , as did many , many others . stop moaning about it and get ones finger ooot .

  28. Same old rubbish from the same old people Thank god for normal Poole fans like rayc who rather than troll realise the truth. This season Summers has scored 2 both times Jake Allen scored 2 Both Lawson and Covatti have failed to win a race at Poole in 13 races between them BWD been there once this season and scored 5 including a fall but beat Woryna twice and won a heat. Poole can only beat what’s in front of them but the luck is going there way and unfortunate for Somerset to be weakened

  31. I'm not sure if you're deliberately trying to be provocative, but no way would Martin Ashby be a 7.5 man. He was out and out number one for many years. He'd easily get above 8 using the current format, which is where number ones are mainly. Whatever the format, he'd still have been the number one.

  32. Historically, challenge matches against select sides almost always attract lower attendances (unless there is something special or unusual on offer). Looking at the teams last week, its little wonder the crowd was poor. Mark Philips 'rock and hard place' description is just about spot on. My suspicion is that Isle of Wight and Plymouth will not be the only ones to consider their entire future if the points limit is devalued significantly. I suspect Mildenhall, Kent, Birmingham, Eastbourne, Coventry (if they continue) and possibly Stoke would not want that. Even Belle Vue, who attract decent attendances for Colts meetings, would be wary of downgrading the standard to a substantial degree. That was shown last season when a majority of clubs wanted an increase in the points limit but due to some technicality it never came to pass. Its entirely possible that all of the above teams could not go into the Championship without huge financial risk yet they recognise that their fans do not wish to see a glorified training session. I can only trust that sanity prevails and the NL is allowed to go the way it wishes rather than being forced into a position which might well endanger the existence of its members.

  33. This discussion may well of happened on here before so apologies if it has... But..... My Twitter feed has gone mad today with the "action" from the Moto GP race and the close action. I have watched the clip and although I now and again watch it if it's on I just don't get the mass appeal over it? The hype and circus that follows it (not as bad as F1) very rarely lives Upto the expectations. Maybe it's my speedway biased view but for close racing and action I think speedway as a whole is by far a better product than Moto GP? Don't get me wrong you do get some exciting racing in the Moto GP but it's absolutely drooled over, in the past few weeks we have seen racing from Belle Vue that has been on a different level to what I have ever seen. Speedway racing has never been in a worse state but the racing now is better than in the 60's, 70's and 80's when it was at its peak. The introduction of the air fence has riders throwing the bikes at each other and yes you get rubbish meeting but you get rubbish Moto GP races. The simple fact of 4 riders and 4 laps hasn't changed yet supporters have walked away from the sport in alarming numbers. The world has changed so much with so much more to do in people's leisure time but most sports grow such and maybe the supporters have been lost to Rugby, Ice Hockey where you see supporters going as families rather than speedway where it's mainly the older generation. In Sweden you see families but for some reason the sport here has been run like the dark ages and sadly been left in them. The AGM will no doubt be classed as "one of the most important in years". We hear this every winter and yet we still find clubs closing and supporters lost to the sport. We have such a fantastic sport, I can't even begin to tell you how much I miss going to Brandon. I just hope when we get (and we will) the stadium back that speedway is in a better position than it is today. The committee are trying so much to save stox and speedway and as much as the stox crowds have always been absolutely amazing at Coventry it would be much better for us and all clubs to have an organisation with a vision for the future and not scraping through year by year.

  35. Unfortunately THJ I have to agree with you. I hate to think about how much Laura & Co will have lost this season ironically made worse because of our success and without any discernible increase in numbers through the gate. I wonder what the excuses are this season for not attending. They can't blame Keith Denham, a crap team, a lack of entertainment, no local riders, cost? (possibly you could say it is a £10-12 pound sport), so what has stopped people attending? I know we aren't the only team struggling to keep our heads above water and money is tight for a lot of people, but as you say, those people staying away will be the first to complain when it is gone. Unless there is a radical shake up of the sport in this country, where it is governed and run by people without any vested interest other than for the love of the sport I too fear the worst. What speedway needs is a Barry Hearn type character along with some well respected former riders to grab hold of it and rebrand the whole damned thing. This would hopefully bring in some bigger sponsors with some big money but ensuring the money goes into developing the sport as a whole and not just into the elite few. We seem to say these things at this time of year, every year however, so I wont hold my breath. Back onto the positive, and what a team we have this year, c'mon lets grab some silverware!

  36. But that doesn't make it right . Most finals in most sports are held at a neutral venue and the competing teams have no say in the charging of admission, it is normally done by the governing body. I appreciate the promotion wants to earn a few bob out of the occasion, but to charge those fans extra, who have stuck by you for 50 odd years don't sound right to me. I would have thought the PO final would, in itself bring in double the crowd, hence more revenue coming in to club. Personally , if we could be assured of filling the stadium, I'd reduce the cost to attract Joe Public to come in and witness the best speedway has to offer... Nothing would compare with a full stadium generating an unbelievable evening.... Just think of the revenue Buster would gained from all the shops and bars

  37. The accident - from where I was standing and I had a very good view - most certainly was not Dan Bewley's fault. Then again, neither was it Kyle Newman's. I don't think anyone is suggesting that Newman's injury should be 'forgotten about'. But, in scale and severity, there is simply no comparison with what Bewley suffered. Bewley is still in a wheelchair and will be for some time to come. His estimated recovery time (at least to ride again) is 6 months. Someone said to me the other day that he didn't know it was possible to break a femur in 5 places. It cannot be the case that every injury suffered by a rider will be of the kind that will generate substantial fund rising activities. However, it is difficult to imagine that the appalling injuries suffered by one of British Speedway's most outstanding young riders would not be one of them.

  38. Post the same question on a MotoGP forum, and I dare say you will get their regulars saying that speedway is just "first out the gate wins", and they will laud their sport to the rafters. Different strokes for different folk.

  40. It's a combination of circumstances as to why Sheffield finished so early this season. 1. Reduced number of fixtures anyway with teams only meeting each other the once instead of twice - which was introduced as a way to alleviate fixtures congestion at the end of the season (as you can see, that has been a roaring success ) 2. Failure to progress from preliminary rounds of Championship Shield/KOC. 3. One rain off, due to the mainly excellent summer. People can talk about Challenge matches/Individual meetings from the old days, but unfortunately nowadays they don't have the appeal, nor do half the riders want to ride in them.

  44. Strange you think that, I was of the impression that most 'middle order' riders are there because they blow Hot and Cold. Rest assured all of those riders have proved they are capable of winning races for fun. Yes, they can lose as well , struggle with set-up and miss the gate, but when the chips are down they usually come to the party. They may not be the quality of Lambert and Niels, but they are an integral part of the team.... When looking at other teams I believe our middle order are as good or better than the rest... The fact that MPT is still at reserve proves how well the engine room really is....

  47. I love watching moto gp being a biker myself I still can't understand how they get the bikes at the angles they do but rarely do you get races like the one this weekend so my first choice would always be speedway. Like yourself i actually think the racing today especially the gps (well some of them) is as good if not better than the rose tinted days. The promotion of the sport and running of meetings is generally a shambles

  48. I accept that contnuity of fixtures is a good thing, but running from mid-March to the end of October is about 30 weeks and I can't see any league structure that would give that many meaningful fixtures. I'd argue that we should seriously consider starting slightly later and finishing by the end of September, but within that framework try and arrange meaningful fixtures as consistently as possible.
