Sorry but why are you two still arguing over this incident, he was excluded for the incident, both riders happily walked away to fight another day. Belle vue won the meeting in heats 13 and 15 and witches got a well deserved point. For goodness sake move on.6 points

There is an easy answer though Sydney.. Market the sport collectively.. Create a brand image collectively... Race on nights when you can get your best crowds not when your employees tell you they are available.. Do market research locally to focus on where to advertise more to increase your reach.. Review the price elasticity of your product to ascertain the right price v the margin/volume needed to meet profit that the customer will pay.. Then set a fixed wage budget % against your income budget, and never overspend it, if you take more than your sales budget then pay the riders more or use this cash to develop your business.. Be innovative, use professionals to support your ideas, and work together to share costs and increase overall impact.. For example. Use the NSS to help sell the sport to those watching around the country on TV. Any TV meeting there run it as a loss leader to create some interest, costs covered collectively. Give 50-100 tickets to the away club and pay for two coaches to get them there. Create the atmosphere so lacking sadly now of it being a 'tribal contest' that team sports should be... In fact give away free tickets to every away team at every match to distribute to their fans (maybe season ticket holders get first option as a reward for their loyalty), and pay their travel at every match. I guarantee that this will create atmosphere and more interest which can only create a more positive overall visiting experience for those in attendance.. And if you have a positive visiting experience anywhere you tend to want to go back. And as away fans are mainly not there now there is no loss of income, just the cost of the travel to pay. And to fund the travel, if you cannot get it sponsored, maybe pay the 14 riders collectively a grand less between them so there's no additional cost involved. Works out about £70 a rider but do it pro rata on a % basis so fair to all riders.. There are lots of things they could do if they worked together for the 'greater good'' rather than doing, for all the best intentions, something by themselves that has a tiny impact on their overall business.. As Kelvin said, one of the best three tracks in the world. So use it to advertise Speedway as a whole.. And do it in a full stadium, which is full of noise from both sets of fans, creating a great brand image of a successful, well followed sport to the watching TV audience.. Bottom line is that there is no point having a great race track and running in front of crowds below break even... As so many other tracks are doing too if you read comments from promoters.. Because there usually is only one outcome of that..5 points

Yeah we all know about the rent agreement Derwent it helped keep Town solvent for many years just like the food and bar takings from the Speedway , not so much a symbiotic relationship then. Comets did have a very difficult 2018 financially due in part to circumstances outside their control but i doubt very much whether Town are in a financially cosy position. No doubt they will exercise their right to charge the Reds to play at DP in order to make up for the income they will lose from the Speedway . I'm a Town supporter so are some other Speedway Fans but what they have done to the track is making me consider not going again i'm so incensed. They have botched the place up for no great reason other than to try and get themselves a new pitch and changing rooms before the poop its the fan.4 points

I think this topic is getting silly, they were racing, they don't have mirrors. Max had passed CH coming out of Bend 2, just before going into bend 3 is where the incident took place. Max knew CH was there but as he said in the interview he thought he had fully passed CH. Max was wrong, bad judgement and wham bam thank you mam, they both end up on the deck, Max was rightly excluded for the cause of the accident, no malice,no dirty riding just a speedway incident.4 points

Just use when you drive a car as an example,,, when you are overtaking another car,, you don't get half way past and then move into the lane that car is in,,,,,, you wait until you are fully past. Max didn't do it on purpose,,,, just very poor judgement and peripheral vision4 points

not my question, not overly interested in the answer - assumed the questioner had made the obvious move of asking someone who might have the answer rather than making a snide comment just for the sake of it. My bad Now if he/she wants me to try and find out, I'll do so to save him/her the trouble. Always happy to help - it says so on the back of my t-shirt at work3 points

I don't agree it needs to be higher. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that this rule was part of the reason Zach and James struggled. Whatever happened, they were going to be the lowest average riders in the league. In the past, other sides might have had 2 or 3 pointers in at reserve with whom they were on a par or better than. Instead they were always going to be the weakest riders in the league and every other side had reserves of a much higher standard.3 points

The PL seems to have scant regard for riders it uses to ‘fill up their teams’ when averages dictate team strengths. Never sure what the league expects from these young reserves, they seem to take the brunt of criticism when it’s more experienced season riders not performing as they should who are the problem. I’m of the opinion that there should be some kind of ‘experience’ requirement in place to avoid young riders being put under pressure to score way before they have been consistently competitive in the league below.3 points

How many heats have we all witnessed where a rider falls and then, in the rerun, the rider that was tailed off suddenly pops out of the start and what was a nailed on 5-1 suddenly ends up as a 3-3? An example of this was last night when Ipswich were on a 4-2, then Fricke knocked off Harris. Berge was tailed off. In the rerun Berge got the drop and managed to get second place, turning what really should have been an Ipswich 5-1 into a 4-2. So why not stagger the start for the rerun? Riders go for the rerun in the position they were in when the heat was stopped. The leading rider starts from the tapes. The rider in second starts at 5 metres and the rider in third at ten metres. A rider might still come through from 3rd to first but would have done it fairly. It’s frustrating to see a rider who was nowhere in the first running pop out and win. Please feel free to agree or disagree. Easy to implement. Thoughts?2 points

Let’s hope this reduced admission provides increased crowds and the club make more money with more supporters paying less to watch than less supporters paying more to watch Also hopefully the racing is good which would give any new supporters an incentive to come back I’ve always thought £17 is too expensive and puts off people coming hopefully a bumper crowd will show the promotion that this is a fact2 points

Hope nobody minds me posting this on here but I am sad to report that long time servant/supporter of Berwick Speedway Jim Louden has passed, this is the tribute via the Berwick site. Jim will be sorely missed by all at Berwick Speedway. RIP Jim http://berwickbandits.co/news/jim-louden2 points

Spot on. If there is an issue anywhere its the way promotions have chosen to build the teams. Rather than raising the overall limit the lowest required average should be higher. That would mean the top averaged riders in each team would be lower and the gap between reserve and heat leaders would be closer and therefore the racing would be closer.2 points
-
For a start, the promoters would need to prepare a decent racetrack to give those riders on a handicap a chance to pass.2 points

Correct.. There should be some clear demarcation between every league. (If they want to keep three leagues going forward?) You improve and become the best at that level then you move up.. You go backwards and can't compete then you drop down a level.. A natural order of things.. If you look at the top fives in the PL then all are pretty similar standards wise, (and have been for donkeys years), therefore why not run with five man teams until enough riders are available to ride at that level and add another if it suits... The Premiership should be the aspirational level.. The Championship the one that holds those who still wish to climb to the top step, or are happy with their lot. And the NL the breeding ground for new talent, of any age.. Running with five men per team will hopefully lead to excess riders too which puts pressure on those holding the positions which can never be a bad thing. And it will also keep salaries in check as well as providing injury cover credibly.. Still let riders double or treble up as their ability allows until enough riders fill the teams. Ensure no clashes of fixtures but the higher league will have priority if it happens unavoidably.. The UK seems to have a much better pathway now for young riders to progress. Be a shame if they are just thrown in at the deep end before they are ready without any support if they struggle to swim..2 points

Cook lost the CFS sponsorship long before his pulling out of the P'Boro deal. That was left to the last minute because they each thought they had the other over a barrel.2 points

Actually a decent length piece of coverage, some rider interviews with some coming across better than others. Showed some of the action but didn't show it all in the best light with repeated shots of a strung out race and the lower tier of the stands which are always empty. However all coverage is good coverage and id be surprised if it doesn't add 100+ to the next couple of home crowds.2 points

The Birmingham 1-7 was already selected when he was released. The first team changes we made ,were done to bring a number 1 in . The second change Aaarnio for Ulrich is an absolute no brainer . Both theses switches have been excellent moves and i think i am in the majority when i say that , So i can only assume you mean why not bring him in for Zach ? My guess would be because we have around 7.8 points to play with for a replacement and would rather use them points than take a risk on 5 point assessed rider . We have already tried one in Tobias and unfortunately never worked out .I would guess that the Josh to Sheffield deal was done before we knew about the Zach situation possibly. If Josh is riding tonight i would guess the deal was done end of last week to give BSPA time to agree and pass team changes ready for tonight.2 points

I remember the year they ran the league on a handicap system. Watching Ronnie Moore at Wimbledon off 30 yards was magic! I think it was Briggs, Moore, Craven, Fundin and one other (Knudsen?) who spent the whole season on 30 yards with those on 20 yards, 10 yards and scratch decided each month on the up to date averages.2 points

Thank you for the figures, it still doesn't excuse the fact that no one from Allerdale has ever entertained any possible proposals from alternative sources to continue running speedway at DP? An offer to Laura Morgan wasn't taken up due to financial problems and there the matter ended, once speedway thru her was gone the bulldozers moved in and that was that? As has been explained above the Reds are now very sceptical about this stadium ever being built and their contribution to the work on a pitch elsewhere could see them forced into paying rent to play on it, short spell or not, it was not what they signed up for? Both want a new stadium but with talk's not producing very much at the moment as to whether anything will ever get the go ahead would that leave DP as the "shared venue" and Borough Park just levelled, use the funds to renovate one ground....is that going to be acceptable to the Reds and Town? Whichever way it pan's out the Speedway was never an option on any front and that's what is wrong with all of this, we could have accommodated all three sport's if we'd really wanted to.... certain individuals just didn't and that's the saddest part of it?2 points

I think that both Zach and James Shanes, while both having progressed to a certain extent, have suffered by riding grasstrack / longtrack and speedway at a young age. They are desciplines that are apart in riding technique. Years ago many very good speedway riders could be seen in Germany, every Sunday, winning and doing very well in longtrack / grasstrack meetings, but only after they had established themselves as very good speedway riders. Wiggy told me it took at least 3 years to master Longtrack. Yet at the same time very good grasstrack riders were riding in the second halfs at speedway and not turning out to be the next great speedway rider, with a few exceptions. Many have said it takes a couple of races to get back to riding a speedway track after competing at grasstrack / longtrack. If you're good on the grass/longtrack on the continent it's hard to let go of the money to improve your speedway. How many true longtrack riders have won the World Speedway Championship? How many true Speedway riders have won the World Longtrack Championship? Just my thoughts.2 points

Always amazes me when people come out with stuff like this,as if they know how much various bosses pay their riders.2 points

Are we talking about all teams or Swindon? Zach was making progress (not major progress) over the years he was at Swindon. He has had a nightmare start to this season in both leagues and is taking time away - so not really down to Swindon having scant regard for Zach and last year Jack Smith was in the team until the end of the season. It’s not just reserves though - look st the number of riders Poole had last year!2 points

Hope they get a big crowd... Maybe charge Edinburgh fans a fiver, or even free? to try and get a few there to add a bit of spice and atmosphere. And get some emails and mobile numbers off those home fans who attend to target them with offers in the future... It's a big jump from a tenner to seventeen quid and expect all to return the week later... Maybe do some further reduced tickets to those enticed in to get them back into the habit of attending Speedway.. Hope it generates some good short and long term returns.. The mistake so many often make is they have no follow up to nights like this and just think all will return again and pay full price the week later.. Be great to see if Berwick can use it a launch pad to further innovative plans to keep punters coming in.. Great to see some 'promotion'....1 point

He was only impressive in comparison with others on Sunday. Very decent though, yes. However unless my memory fails me he was riding in the Conference for Redcar ten years or so ago and didn't make the step up. For my money the discussion on our reserves is academic. We shouldn't let the perfect be the downfall of the good.1 point

Assuming the track rent is similar to private hires the its 50 less paying public required to cover that off, i suspect as a second team there are perks with regards to registrations, bonds etc. Probably even a cross over of helpers too. One thing that is for certain is that as a track that can run 7 days a week its definitely a huge plus to have teams running in separate divisions and long may it continue.1 point

Not sure if the lower seating is utilised very much during dog events either? But if not perhaps it would be better to create adverting space across the lower seating areas? Drape large banners over the seats so they appear in the action shots rather than the appearance of any empty stadium.1 point

Thanks for pointing that out.One spelling mistake in 585 posts ? Must try harder obviously if we have got an English teacher checking for spelling mistakes.Looks like some people need to get a life.Obviously not much else to do in Scunthorpe when they have to come on a Sheffield thread.1 point

I reckon the crowd has dropped by a good couple hundred, there was a time when it was said our crowd matched the Wolves but I'm not sure about that but there's no denying its dropped this season. I still enjoy supporting the lads home and away when I can get there but the National League standard has dropped but maybe it's more what it should be now but at £13 not really sure if everyone thinks it's value for money. I'l be at Mildenhall Sunday but there was no where near as many Heathens on our last visit. Saying all that there's still a fair few teams who would be happy with our level of support1 point

He scored 1 point in the rerun. Granted it was his 2nd bike, but I’m sure he would been set up for the track. Without the collision Fricke would have passed him anyway.1 point
