  1. we could always run a meeting and when Nippy asks about it we can always say *They can’t recall the incident.. *Nothing happened to the best of their knowledge *They have no knowledge of the incident *We can’t answer that question * We don’t know * We were not aware * We don’t recall * we’d need to check the detail * We’re not 100% sure * We can’t recall any incident its got her out of a lot of trouble so far lol

  2. So sad to hear the news of the passing of Jean Wilkinson a devoted wife of the much loved Alan.Life is so unfair and cruel at times and now Jean is back reunited with Alan god bless both of them.

  3. Being realistic you might get away with one or two streamed meetings but if we go to July/August before any crowds are allowed back in then financially it would be ill advised at best to run under that criteria. I genuinely hope I am wrong but it seems more unlikely than likely that we shall run this year.

  5. If Ellis was to ride in the CL with Poole, take a look at the fixtures, eg Tues 25th May @ Plymouth Wed 26th May @ Poole Sat 29th May @ Eastbourne . Tuesday and Wednesdays are when Sweden and Denmark ride. Sunday is Poland and the Poles want their riders in the country the day before. Also there are fixtures on sundays in the UK too. So for a rider that wants to ride in Europe then the CL makes no sense. The PL is different as a rider will know that on Mondays and Thursdays they will be in the UK. Others nights and they be abroad.

  6. If Ellis was only going to race in one league in Britain it was always gonna be the Premiership over the Championship!

  7. In 2019 Isle of Wight put on a match against Oxford. Oxford took a coach of fans + others making their own way. The team had some riders with an Oxford link and Gordon Kennett as team manager. Would it have been attractive to the Isle of White Management to run if they could have had there NDL matches + several matches against ghost teams from the South. Think of the team options in the South, Oxford, Reading Wimbledon, Hackney, Milton Keynes, Lakeside even Swindon and Somerset + others. Cradley and Coventry and Newport could also bring travelling fans These meeting could have been pitched at NDL level or higher by IOW using some of their former riders to strenghen their team. For this to happen it would have required the lifting of the ban on ghost teams. This rule really hurts fans of teams that no longer have tracks of their own. It would also only work if the IOW thought it was feasible. Mildenhall could also being the option to do this.

  8. Lads can't win. Take a leap at developing their career by riding in stronger leagues in Poland and they're turning their back on British Speedway. Ride two British leagues and they're milking the UK gravy train. I think Ellis and Bewley have made the right choice by picking PL and Poland. Hopefully scoring heavily and maintaining confidence in the UK and taking that confidence on to the continent for tougher challenges overseas. Should the opportunities in Poland be limited then consider a CL place. For which they'd no doubt get stick. Imagine having the freedom to do whatever is best for your own circumstances.......

  12. LET'S not forget that without Terry Russell there would have been no Sky deal and quite rightly he had a percentage of it but not the figure you quote.

  13. What about... "The League of Scotland"...? Meet each other home and away 16 times, so 32 matches.. (Similar to the way Scotland runs its football)... Add two Play Off Semi's and a Play Off Final and that's 35. Throw in a "Scottish Cup", (semis and Final), and you get 38 fixtures. Similar to the boat race down here, the same two teams will qualify each year for the final... And to be fair, a two team top league in Scotland will only be 4 less that the top league in England...

  15. THEN in this case they would be wrong. The BSPA, unable to secure a TV deal, entered into a contract with Terry. No deal, no fee. This is not unusual for these sorts of negotiations especially in TV sports contracts.

  23. I am sure a good many had tried to get "Speedway on the telly", and failed, before Russell managed it... A 'finders'' or 'brokers' fee would be a usual thing to then get paid... There was still a "hell of a lot of money" 'that went to the clubs over a good many years... A shame that money didn't get used well to further enhance the sport in the UK..

  24. I think you're underestimating Pijper, I reckon he'll do well for the Scorpions!

  25. I honestly can't see how. If the government will not allow crowds to attend sporting events until at least 2 or 3 months after the season is due to start it just can't work logistically or economically.

  26. They could run a joint Premiership/Championship Pairs event at the same time... Half the rider's kevlars in their Premiership team's colours and the other half in their Championship teams colours... Would pull a huge crowd as every team in the country will be involved... It might be awkward to work out a scoring system given each pair of riders will have a different 'other' team but I am sure Speedway would come up with a perfectly sensible solution... Held at Scunthorpe obviously.... But not on a Friday just in case guests are needed....

  30. As Haza says stock cars bring the money in at Lynn nowadays and therefore the track is prepared for them with shale which has a high clay content, unfortunately that makes the track very grippy and as well as giving the rider in front a very fast ride it means the riders behind get pelted with heavy lumps and makes the handling of the bike much more difficult, instead of riders being able to try different lines and race they are almost hanging on to just get round the corners at times. We were promised slicker conditions for 2020 so hopefully that will be the case for this season as the racing needs to improve.

  31. What I don't understand is it's well known in speedway that kings Lynn as a good track and 100% fact have got the best equipment by far to prepare the track and serve up great entertainment so why not? Surely if fans went home saying wow that final race . Just my thoughts.

  35. Both pairs meetings would consist of practically the same riders , so what actually would make it more exciting when the riders are riding for a championship club ?
    1 point
  36. Yep I agree with this, the priority this year has to be to get folk through the door, both previous regulars and newbies although you wonder if that can/will happen under the current regime. As for the league position, I can stomach finishing last as long as the majority of home meetings are won, the racing is good (ie better than it has been) and the away defeats are respectable and not clatterings.

  41. Dugard is a surprise , the lad appears to have a little bit of talent but it also appears his commitment has been lacking in the past. He’s also working as Barkers mechanic ? Well I hope that works out for him ! On paper it’s not a bad side. Clegg should be unbeatable around our track, I expect Josh and Archie also to be good at home and give support to Terry-Daley, if Dugard settles in quickly ( he hasn't got much option) then we’ll be fine at home, which is where it counts.

But I do love Plymouth, I have a lot of family down there and lived down there a year myself (Before the team came back) Plymouth would be my 1st team if I lived closer, brilliant area of the country and amazing club

  43. I think it is you that needs to get your facts right. The NL is not run independently as all their meetings are overseen by the Management Committee, with all decisions having to be ratified at a General Committee meeting. All the standalone clubs pay fees to the BSPA and to the SCB, the insurance is cheaper because the benefits are much reduced from the other two legs, and the referees fees are slightly less because the referees choose to charge less for their services.

  44. Imagine ensuring that having enough guests are available as one of your main priorities when planning a fixture list? Rather than planning one that takes every opportunity possible to run Speedway meetings at weekends... "Please take us seriously fans, media and sponsors".....

  45. Rumblings of Torun choosing between Tobiasz Musielak and Adrian Miedzinski for one of their senior Polish riders in their team, with others suggesting they take a punt on Gregorz Zengota. Personally speaking I wouldn't have Miedzinski anywhere near my team but he's obviously been at Torun in the past for a number of years. I have also updated the post on the first page to now include teams 'outgoing riders' so that it's easy to track who has left and where they have gone to.

  46. Tai Woffinden, despite having broken hand, did his best to make sure that his team Wroclaw reached for bronze medal in the Polish Speedway ExtraLiga. He made available for Dan Bewley not only his engines from Ryszard Kowalski, but also mechanics, and during the two final matches personally supervised the progress. The effect was surprisingly good, because the young Bewley scored 23 points in two matches for the bronze medal and was by far the biggest surprise at the end of the season. Most importantly, the 21-year-old rode not only efficiently, but also very effectively, and confirmed that his problems at the start of the season were due to poor equipment and not fear of risky riding. (…)His position in the Wroclaw team will be rather unchallenged, because currently Tai Woffinden, Artiom Łaguta, Maciej Janowski, Gleb Czugunow and Bewley are sure of a contract for the next season. In recent weeks, several clubs have applied for the Brit, but Wrocław have told them that they do not intend to release him. (source: Przegląd Sportowy)
