Don't know why people are complaining about paying £15 for the stream, you either pay or don't, 4 of us traveled up from Workington, probably at a cost of £50 each by the time you paid admission, program food and petrol thoroughly enjoyed the racing, we could have paid for the stream and sat at home, but watching speedway on the terraces is miles better8 points

You can't accuse Glasgow of lack of fan engagement. The riders walked across the centre green as a light show lit up the stadium and music blared. The riders were introduced individually with frequent mentions of the SoN triumph as well as all awards won by each individual rider. Each rider received a gift from the Tigers Growlers Club (youngsters) and they had their photo taken with their rider something they'll always remember. The riders of both teams then climbed on to the Tigers Support truck which did two laps of the track with riders waving and fans of both sides cheering, many of whom were wearing and waving the specially commissioned scarves. The display of the trophy would have been nice but wouldn't have added much to the evening. As others have said the only downside were the crashes, injuries and heavy rain that arrived at heat 13 robbing us off a probable last heat decider.4 points

I'd argue the two teams who pulled out should of not entered in the first place absolute folly in current climate3 points

I'm sorry but if that's going to be the level of next season's championship then they're will be even more tracks closing. That is not attractive at all. As been said before the solution isn't to weaken the second league so the top one looks stronger. People will vote with their feet3 points

The Polish team lost...At home. That probably put them off hosting again From the scorechart you posted above, it looks like at least Kings Lynn were using a guest, presumably due to a clash of teams...PePe wasn't racing for you guys in 2015. Who was he replacing? Would it have been Iversen that was your number 1 back then? Edit - I see from Arnie's link above that it was held in ZG in 2014 as well. World Speedway League (Zielona Gora) 18/10/2014 5pm | Speedway Updates (proboards.com) So the Poles hosted it two years in a row and lost at home to the Swedes 2 years in a row...I can see why their enthusiasm might have faded, a bit like their enthusiasm for the SoN is fading3 points

I don’t think Tom went down on purpose. Us Monarchs get a bit edgy at heat 15 deciders. We don’t call it binning it in these parts - it’s called doing The Pontus.3 points

There is no such rule of a NL guest - “no facility” rule is a rider minus 25% of the missing riders average. However a facility is granted for circumstances of that riders wedding - maybe the last being Simon Lambert. Precedent is set and thereby Glasgow applied for a facility which has been granted. My main gripe is more to do with the “apparently” word used in the press release. Can you imagine if he wasn’t getting married and we applied to get one - then I’d expect us to be thrown out of the competition.3 points

Wouldn't it be interesting if there was a speedway equivalent of the Champions League? Poland's champions Wroclaw riding against Britain's champions would be a very close affair over two legs.3 points

British speedway fans. Absolutely no pleasing them. It's Glasgow in October ffs of course there's going to be rain about. Delays were completely unavoidable so all this could've finished is nonsense3 points

We know and we know exactly what the Monarchs are capable of at Armadale . So taking nothing for granted2 points

Thought Cook had the ride of the night in Ht 10 to pass Pickering then Team ride Nicol to hold of Pickering( who was very entertaining and never gives up).Cook was sublime tonight IMO.That’s the best I have seen him ride this season.2 points

One things for sure. ‘To cut a long story short” it won’t be “Gold” for Monarchs. That’s definitely “True”. Perhaps they can use “Chant Number One” for their local rivals.2 points

Totally wrong. The state of British speedway at this current time means they can’t afford to bring such riders in even if those riders wished to come. Those riders aren’t here because they chase the money and there’s none left in the UK. When Somerset signed Jason Doyle , world champion at the time, it added exactly zero to their gate receipts and created a massive hole in their wages budget. A recipe for disaster ? the club never recovered and where are they now !2 points

Id argue that losing two teams throughout a season that started with only 8 sides is pretty disconcerting, throw in that only one stand alone team remains and they have very little say in their sole product certainly makes it hard to imagine why any new promotions would want to apply. I loved the product previously and the level was such that riders did genuinely make good strides in their progress and move into the higher tiers a more complete product. Looking at this seasons performances there are riders who were already competing at a higher level and are dramatically better than the opposition they face, once some of those are removed from next season how will the teams look? A mix of eternal NL riders and rookies with little or no credentials. The ethos of riders who want to get out there and get on with it has always been present but riding on slick 2nd half tracks is teaching them little and in some cases will end riders careers before they have barely begun.2 points

Surely the league setup has to change before anyone starts building teams. We can’t have 6 clubs in a league again with pretty much all top riders doubling down .2 points

If it’s the same riders, why does it cost a lot more? That doesn’t make any sense. ——— Anybody calling for a reduction to the points limit needs to give their heads a wobble. Lowering the points limit only serves to weaken the product further.2 points

The whole situation is a result of weak governance, nothing will change until that is sorted.2 points

I feel the Championship needs to be weaker, 1) to encourage the likes of Poole / Glasgow / Leicester to step up 2) to shorten the difference between Champ & NDL for riders trying to step up! At the moment riders can score maximums at NDL level but not score a point in the Champ! Makes it tough to know if you are good enough to step up! 3) if it makes the Champ a cheaper league to run - bonus!2 points

Edinburgh have pulled equally iffy tricks in the past I’d say. It does make a bit of a mockery of things though. That said Heeps has a low average this season for a reason and might not fly out the traps as he’s bound to be a little rusty. It still strengthens the Tigers though no doubt - big night for Drew (again).2 points

British speedway fans jeez oh if we were counting in old money pre decimal would be moaning if a farthing was too much2 points

That all depends on who they class as rising stars next season. Will Palin, Leon, Dan T etc still be to their development? How expect anyone to step up from that farce of a national League into championship is ridiculous1 point

Yep I think the fact it's not been held since speaks volumes.1 point

Either way, not really viable with riders riding for multiple clubs around Europe1 point

We usually stuff the Poles... it's the Ruskies we can't stuff. For me it was just good to see big time Speedway back in this country after a break of nearly 2 and a half years. To see the worlds best riders racing for a competition they are actually invested in winning, compared to the general dross that is league racing in this country (play offs exempted) was a refreshing change.1 point

This applies to everyone not just Jenga. What does it matter, you either want to watch the match live, via the stream or delayed stream, and pay the ticket price or you don't. If you do, great and I hope you enjoy it. If you don't, fine, just stop complaining.1 point

I think the general reason for the playoffs isn't that the champions gates suffer towards the end of a dominant season, it's more that no one else has anything to race for. Wasn't it the 2011 Glasgow dominant season where they won the league early that started to trigger play offs? not sure. But it's intention is so that another 3 or 5 clubs have something to race for towards the end of a season. Whether you agree with it or not, I think that was the rational behind it1 point

Strange isn't it,, a professional sport where the manager doesn't get paid. Although I'm sure a few do and have done at some clubs. I bet the tea lady is getting top dollar though1 point

Again, for me, it comes down to the misguided belief that fans will just turn up and watch what the promoter has decided that they want to watch.. In my opinion the old National League with a decent number one is the level that the sport should run with in this country.. A "National League Plus" or a "Championship League Minus" being the perfect structure for the fan base numbers that attend... Promoters' egos might say one thing.. But ultimately, attendance levels suggest another, and that is the barometer that should be used.. Get down to the base level, make it work, and build up from there....1 point

You really are overstepping the line between opinion and knowledge; the Sky deal was substantial but not as much as cycling got, included league sponsorship (Sky Sports Elite League for all those who said the BSPA/L couldn't find a big name league sponsor), an element of the TV fees had to be channeled into youth development hence the BSPA contribution to the British Under 21, establishing the Under 19 and so on - it wasn't a fortune but it helped and an element to contribute to the Team GB set up (Pre the current arrangement with Rob). The lower professional league also had to receive a sum to plug a gap because they were competing with live tv (this was their annual BSPA fees paid). Terry Russell reduced his perpetual commission to a fraction of his finders fee and below his contractual arrangements despite all the clever comments on here. It was the cost of football and football only that led to the early settlement of the contract allowing Sky to save the cost of the live outside broadcasts - nothing to do with rain offs, audience figures or advertisers. Don't forget they binned the be all and end all Speedway GPs for the same reason, eff all to do with the BSPA/L Broadcasters need live summer sport to fill their schedules so offering what appears to be brewsters to minority sports is a drop in the ocean compared to the cost of football1 point
