The root cause of course being the lack of a "proper" team levelling system... Each year it happens that the teams start "pretty equal" on paper, but each season one or two clearly stand out as being not good enough from the very outset and live up to that billing by ending dozens of league points behind the leading teams, and hundreds of race points behind too... Given the lack of riders of HL level there really does need to be some kind of maximum figure for the top three, within an overall team average.. Given the HL's will invariably most weeks ride in 14 of the 30 races each team has, more if Tac Sub, having each team with a "similar level" of top three has to be the way forward if you want to have competitive meetings, and keep the entertainment value up to the standard which attracts people back.. Having teams out of their depth is simply no good for anyone's business, so why do they allow it to consistently happen?5 points

Have a look at the Facebook page ‘Bring Back Southampton Speedway’. That seems to be the place where developments are reported and it appears that plans are proceeding.5 points

2018 season steve Worrall broke his leg in first match for scunthorpe and they used a guest for the rest of the season.3 points

I see roynon has missed the 2 minutes, probably looking to see where bwd is hiding ..3 points

If these are the types of teams we can put together based on our budget, we should be going National League instead until we find more budget, we clearly can't afford the Championship now?? Racing is better in the NL anyway3 points
-
Surely a team managers job is to win a meeting, if it means swapping reserves then so be it.3 points

Why look for a replacement? Same situation as Plymouth, team will be far stronger using guests for as long as possible!2 points

Seem to remember that BWD had a serious problem with shoulder blades a few years ago. They had separated. Hopefully he can get latest problem sorted as on form he's a very exciting talent. It's getting a bit silly now on here with people seeing conspiracy in every injury when reality is different and riders are genuinely injured.2 points

They call it...wait for it...micromove!!!2 points

Agree with your last comment. Need Andersen and Roynon (especially on his home track last season) to score more.2 points

Unless all Championship teams build to Newcastle strength & have a clear gap between Prem & Champ! Also make it easier for NDL riders to step up!2 points

I did not see the Brummies match and therefore can't comment. Last nights match was not entertaining other than a coule of races. Last weeks match was more entertaining despite the score.2 points

6-0 to GB in Ht 1... Two good races to start..1 point

Good effort from the diamonds, shows could be competitive at least at home if bwd scoring 2nd string points. Redcar seem a bit weak in 2nd string department away from home to me.1 point

Takes me back to my Sunday League playing days in the mid 80's and early 90's... Used to get a tenner a game to replace some under performing, or "injured" players in big games... Obviously no internet then so my registration was not quite up to speed, and no photo identification either... Never an issue as long as I remembered who I was if (usually when), I got booked... Always wondered why the refs never got suspicious when they booked me and I said my name was "Steve such and such", or "Paul somebody", when for the previous hour all the players were shouting "Mike"... A mate of mine used to do the same and sometimes we were against each other and sometimes on the same side.. Looking back now, we were like the "Scotty and Bomber" of the Stockport and District Sunday League....1 point

Talented youngster - rides for Esbjerg- rode for Poznan last season. don`t go on his 1st ride- i really rate him1 point

Is he avoiding a certain Redcar rider seeking retribution maybe?1 point

That’s the thing, premier and championship leagues are all the same riders with a different bib on.there’s no such thing as “elite” anymore.1 big league (even ifs split into north &south) and ndl league is the way to go surely …1 point

I don't think it's convenient at all, as it's a challenge match I'm sure Newcastle would rather BWD was able to get race fit ahead of the league campaign. If it was a league match I'd agree with you, very convenient!1 point

Wont it be hard to find riders currently? Since the seasons not really began? plus we are on a budget, so gotta make do. I will still to go all home games, we can just hope bwd/etc all find their way again1 point

killeen will be good and won’t be at reserve for long i have seen him practice a couple times (his brother Luke is pretty good also can see him getting a team spot soon if equipment there ) , Sam hagon struggled in his first 2 rides last night then changed bikes different rider after, chargers and bullets will both be in the play offs as long as no major injuries or number 1s riders getting a premier spot as there no good heat leaders left1 point

That was the case, and many more new requirements were laid down due to the Atomic Weapons Establishment opposite. I doubt you would permission for any racing there now it has lapsed (at least 5 years since it was used). The land was up for sale, not sure if it has now sold, but I know that the only interest in using it for racing was from those of us trying to get Reading back on track.1 point

Isn’t that what the NDL is supposed to be about ? To give riders a chance to develop ? You shouldn’t expect higher standards in the lower league.1 point

The evidence is clear I'm not a good one! I look at the Oxford side & believe it has been put together at short notice with some riders that other clubs didn't want to use. I hope I'm wrong but I still feel they are not as strong as their points show.1 point

I'm all for clubs assembling a team to suit their budgets but there has to be some minimum standard to compete in whatever league. There used to be a minimum limit, not sure there still is though? Didn't Milton Keynes get booted out of the league in the late 80's/ early 90's? Somebody did. This Newcastle team should be in the NL. Some of the names might be recognisable but only because they've been around for a while and not for any achievement: BWD: Never shown anything to suggest he's anything other than a PL reserve, not a CL heat leader Wethers: Solid team journeyman, good for No2 James Wright: Who knew that Charles was going to be the good one! James is a long way off from being the rider he used to be Cleggy: Been around for years, has never moved on from being a decent reserve Starky: Solid team journeyman, maybe a good 3rd heat leader Lee Complin: I'll give him a month Congreve: The next Ivan Mauger?1 point

Just caught up with Fridays action, did anyone else feel Hansen should of been ex and not Kubera? Two decent close meetings to start the season, great win for the goats, where has Hubert Jablonski appeared from? He looked real good, once Ratajczak is back Leszno may well be alright.1 point

They have continued with the stupid rule that the top average rider has to be at #1, which rather stifles team managers. In the Prem this season, they can only chose who rides at 2, 3, 4 & 5.1 point

From their website Speedway is returning to Premier Sports in 2022 with meetings beginning soon from Sweden on a Tuesday and Thursday plus meetings from Denmark on Wednesdays featuring UK star Tai Woffinden. Upcoming fixtures to be updated shortly1 point

I don't see why everyone underestimates this Oxford side, especially once Killeen is here... 4 heatleaders, Jacob Clouting is only going to get better with age and Aaran Butcher isn't an awful junior reserve... If Luke turns out to be a hidden gem, I see them as one of the better sides in the league. Belle Vue is still my bets as champions though...1 point

Looked what happened to Jason Edwards, he was given the easier number 7 spot & scored more points than his first meeting. Also didn't hinder Jordan Jenkins racing in the tougher number 6 spot!1 point

I think it was in 1975 saw Charlie Monk win an open meeting with the prize being a brand new Weslake Engine ,he beat the very best of the old Gulf League that night .Loved going there the shape and size similar to Crewe actually Paul O'neal ,Ian Cartwright and John Jackson rode for both teams a sometime or another .1 point

That's not an off night at Monmore, that's a normal performance for Holder at Monmore, not his favourite track. But it's irrelevant, the Tigers overall did enough, and deserved the win.1 point

Yep. They may look half decent, but there are four stronger teams imo. Sheffield Peterborough Ipswich Belle Vue King's Lynn Wolverhampton1 point
