  3. i don't think for one second that anyone wants Birmingham speedway to close. But the sticking issue here I feel is the £10 for two completed races. The new promotion at Birmingham have worked hard and done decent job since taking over. But the this £10 for 2 completed races is a massive own goal and as one other poster has said a PR disaster. When Birmingham promotion have worked hard to attract new fans, how is charging them £10 for 2 completed races going to encourage those supporters back and on regular basis, it don't take a Rocket Scientist to work out that they will more than likely give the sport a wide berth. Its okay for the likes of me and yourself who are hardcore supporters and possibly write off the money loss, but a casual or new potential fan might think twice about returning. There is a credit crunch and money is tight, and people will be looking value for money. I just hope hard work has not been undone.

  4. I would have said he doesn't have a great style,,, right elbow way too high,,, you don't see any top riders do that,, and I'm guessing there is a pretty simple reason why.

  5. Show me where I've said anything about wanting Birmingham to close. It's the absolute opposite and you're purely burying your head in the sand if you can't see the problems this could cause- not just for Birmingham, but the sport as a whole. My sticking point is that for all the goodwill and money the promotion put into Birmingham how on earth will it survive if its ripping off fans like this? No new fan will put up with it and the die hards will dwindle. We all need to be realistic and understand the average fan cannot be affording to lose money for nothing. With how often rain offs and crashes do occur in speedway, can we seriously not expect this to happen again? Bluntly, what has happened at Birmingham is a shambles and they need to do better. If Birmingham need a blue print of how to run a speedway team they need look no further than their opponents for this meeting. Berwick like Birmingham was once a club in trouble but their new promotion have worked theirs socks off on and off the track and not done it by cutting corners. And whilst they might not be the most cash rich side or field the best 1-7 in the league you can say with their involvement with the fans with the 5-1 draw, the dirt xtra and genuine effort to bring value to money to their fans in the double headers that they've thought outside the box and been rewarded with an incredibly loyal fan base.

  6. The rule hasn't changed in at least a dozen years. 012.4.2(c): A rider may ride as a guest at a track (regardless of team) only once in an 8-day period, unless he is replacing the home team's No 1. Thus, Richard Lawson (to pick a name at random) can ride at No 1 for Plymouth at home every week for as long as Eddie Kennett is out (unless Eddie's CMA is overtaken by another Gladiator) and again in every away match unless he had been a guest at that track the previous week.

  7. I know Scunthorpe are good at home but to Predict that the Scorpions will get 8 5-0's and 7 5-1's is a bit extreme

  8. I’m guessing Niels’ 28 days comes to an end this week. We are going to be considerably weakened if he can’t be persuaded to stay and Kildemand seemingly going from one crash to another. Hopefully we hear what the club’s plans are soon. We’ve had a promising start to the season so don’t undo it all by keeping the fans in the dark.

  9. If there is anything positive to be taken from this truly unfortunate occurrence, it is that people in power at the remaining clubs which currently do not employ two paramedic professionals in addition to two ambulances (or one plus an equipped medical room) have been given a very clear heads-up that the next disaster could be at their track. There are private organisations all over the country providing paramedic services . In Central Scotland alone, there are half a dozen! These companies are in business competition with each other, they offer competitive rates (considerably lower than some of the wild guesstimates quoted by previous posters) and I can only imagine several club bosses have been busy over the past few days, obtaining quotations and weighing up options. At least half a dozen circuits I know of (I'm sure there are more) have two-plus-two medical cover, and while other factors can delay or even cancel meetings, at least these clubs can be confident of sparing their customers the avoidable aggravation suffered already this year at Birmingham and Mildenhall. Nigel Tolley and his consortium at Perry Barr (who have already got so much right) have learned a hard lesson -- and I really, really hope they can get their show back on the rails, and push onwards and upwards after last Wednesday's fiasco.

  10. In which case they can't replace him until 25% of fixtures have been ridden.

  11. Nor did I, really. I don't think there is much to say on here at the moment and I think I'll give the whole kit & caboodle a miss from now on.

  12. If you looked at the score you’d think it was all one way traffic, but nothing could be further from the truth. Bandits had to work hard for the points. Some superb racing. One of the better meetings I’ve seen at Shielfield

  14. Just bullet pointing roughly what was said- Started off wishing all the best for Auty. Said a meeting being abandoned after 2 races for a straight forward crash is unacceptable. He's sick of turning up at tracks and finding them operating with the bare minimum of medical cover. Believes that the authorities should step in and insist on having two paramedics and ambulances before a meeting should start. Understands that medical cover doesn't come cheap but should be the first item on each clubs budget at the start of the season.

  16. The track looks fine when Josh takes to it. It's not as grippy this year .It might help some and hinder others, but it seams to work for this team. Sign Josh for next season now i say ie

  17. Surely like mentioned above this makes that 25% rule irrelevant… just makes a slight mockery in my opinion

  18. I never missed a single meeting home or away for 40 years,,, and as some know spannered for a rider in our last glory years, then a few years ago I missed a few,, then last year a few more,, and this year it will be even more,,, looks like even some of the most dedicated fans are now changing their ways

  19. Last season Ruml (at Plymouth) was in the same position as Congreve this season. i.e. assessed on an overinflated average. He was generally poor last season and didn't get close to 4.00 by the end of the season. That's why he's on a 4.00 this year, as that's the minimum average he will always be assessed on. Plymouth released him and Oxford took a chance, and boy does it appear to have paid off. he's a different rider this year. As Scott Nicholls said, He won the meeting for them yesterday. (memories of Mark Thorpe spring to mind. As for BWD my understanding is that he needs an op on his shoulder. That said, he's needed an op since he was injured pre -covid and still hasn't had it done. It's obviously reasonably ok riding once a month or so in New Zealand but not twice a week in the UK.

  22. Looks like Richie and Richard are the new No1s for the season for Newcastle and Plymouth respectively.

  23. Presumably ok as he's declared in the Pirates line-up for Wednesday. Also he's due to receive £500 (as is Nathan) from the Poole R.E.F. (Riders Equipment Fund)!

  25. One of a number of great races on Saturday -- I don't even think that was the best! Heat 5 was superb. As for the commentary, I've heard an awful lot worse -- on "real TV" even -- and having two enthusiasts putting words to pictures is no bad thing.

  28. Can't understand why Ipswich aren't giving Danyon Hume as chance in the team? He outscored Rowe at Leicester on Saturday (Rowe's home track)!

  29. First and foremost… they’re both Bandits fans! Appreciate the fact that the No.1 of their team pulled off a race like that! Can’t blame either of them for getting excited!

  31. Just an observation ? even if another ambulance had arrived within an hour or so, the meeting may still NOT have finished due to the 10pm curfew ? So, B'ham would have incurred the extra cost and most likely still NOT have finished the meeting. Get 2 Paramedics and 2 Ambulances in place from the start....

  32. Certainly a better meeting than the score suggests. Some terrific passing moves around a track that gets a bad rap. Thought we would score a few more, difficult running r/r if you have a couple of men slightly down on their scoring. Special mention to local lad Nathan Stoneman, def a track he seems to enjoy and always entertaining. Much colder than I remember up north

  33. Well I would have imagined that Sam would have loved the long "straight- a-ways."

  34. Fans want to see exciting speedway - fact. nothing exciting at Newcastle right now. Under strength, and a poor track. We have morphed into what was stoke, a poor team with no ambition, no excitement and no atmosphere. Costs me £50 a week & sadly it’s money down the drain. All we want is to be competitive - is that so much to ask???!

  35. Just put transponders on the bikes then there would be no argument who got to the finish line first. You would also get accurate race times. They've had them on the karts on the racetrack next to Redcar speedway for years.

  36. I thought was excellent with the way he handled the meeting especially with Oxford running R/R, hopefully he gets a few more Berwick meetings.

  38. It turns out that this particular turd can be polished... the racing so far this season has in general been excellent! I don't think Newcastle are going to server up any entertainment at any away track this season tbh... ask your friend about Heat 15, that was a great race! Hopefully when the cubs get some meetings under their belts the twins will be a little more consistent and gain some confidence as they get more track time... I don't know if he's eligible but it looks as though Anders Rowe may also benefit from some cub time

  39. Brum should advertise £75 for 15 races (pro rata the same), at the next meeting and then see how many turn up... That should tell them the impact a key fundamental decision they have to make would have...

  40. And I'll not be told by some brown nose where I can and can't make a comment. You can come up with every excuse under the sun, but charging anyone £10 for 2 races isn't acceptable and its only going to do one thing which is push more people away from the sport. It might be some absolute braindead BSPA rule but it seems ridiculous to actually enforce it and I'll say now if Sheffield were to do the same I'd be voting with my wallet.

  41. I agree Birmingham's circumstances are unique this season. They absolutely have to retain the goodwill of the public to stand the best chance of making a success of it. Hiding behind BSPL "policy" won't cut it on this occasion. Hopefully they'll have a rethink

  42. If this is the way the Birmingham promotion want to run then they've got absolutely no place in the sport. The absolute cheek to charge fans £10 for 2 races. When promotions run like this doing the absolute bare minimum and then genuinely rip off fans they don't just damage their own club, they damage the sports image and reputation or what little it has left. I fully understand that "beggars can't be choosers" but there must be some sort of standard set for promotions looking to run? Because regardless if this consortium "saved" Birmingham speedway with these sort of practices they won't last more than 5 minutes. Laurence Rogers in particular should be absolutely ashamed of himself. He's not a newbie, he knows how the sports run and knows how vital it is to keep fans loyal. Unfortunately I think this will turn anyone with any sense away...

  43. Laurence Rogers has worked at many many clubs, Most of which are now gone. Tells you something.

  44. Really should be a home win now but can’t take things for granted. Effectively a 3 man Panthers side took us right to the wire on Thursday. Shame about Riss missing out as was looking forward to seeing how would do against the Stars class of 22.

  45. P.s and forget about 'Demo' riding before the meeting....waste of time and hardly anyone is interested. Crack on with the match. If there's to be any demo's as such, do it during the 10/15 minute interval, providing the meeting is running smoothly. While I'm on the subject....the parade is lack lustre and boring IMO. Announce the 2 number 1's and let them do a lap and so on.....(straight from the pits etc.....) Just my opinions of course....

  46. Not sure I've read any posts that want B'ham closed ? just an overwhelming opinion that ALL fans at the Berwick meeting should receive a TOTAL refund in order for the current B'ham promotion to hold on to their integrity ? (may be?....this is just my interpretation...)

  47. Don't think any of the above is unreasonable to expect from any promotion to be honest.

  48. you are entitled to your opinion of course but you seem super-crtitical. (I too disliked the actual track when it first opened). I have seen 3 meetings there so far this season (not Newcastle) and there has been a lot of passing and close racing. I find viewing is fine whether standing or sitting and you can park in Sainsbury's for 4 hours.

  49. Brilliant racing at Lodz as always would love to see a GP, it warrants for such a brilliant track and stadium

  50. An unbelievable performance by Charles Wright, probably his very best at Monmore.Unfortunately for the Aces counterbalanced by an abject performance from their GP rider Fricke. I wouldn't imagine that Monmore is anywhere near being Fricke's favourite track, but 4 points is still very poor.
