  1. Enjoyed that tonight... Some cracking racing from both teams.. No guests either... (Not sure if that is allowed in the regulations though).. Connor Mountain and Tom Brennan both deserved more for their efforts, but great to see young British lads mixing it with GP stars.. Plenty of sponsors on the centre green too, and that ball game thingy is good to keep the kids involved, so the Aces look like they are giving something a go off track too... Biggest crowd of the year at the NSS for the Premiership? Maybe 1800/1900? No guests, decent crowd, full on cracking racing from both sets of riders, regardless of the scoreline, interaction with the fans, and all done an dusted by 915pm... When done this well, what's not to like about British Speedway? It shows it can be done...

  2. So Clegg is too old at 25 but Aussie Keleher at 29 is fine?

  3. A young Dane would have a 5.00 average, so you would need to replace at least two riders in order to fit him in, and revert to the original Team Building limit.

  4. Max Clegg to Leicester. Riding at reserve to, great move for him.

  5. Its another in a long list of reasons why the sport isnt taken seriously anymore and why the crowds are so embarrassingly low. The new generation of riders just don't give a toss about the fans , simple as that.

  6. The riders have been doing as they please for years. It’s just a regular job ,ride as many times a week as possible.Probably have to look at their body colour to remind them who they are riding for on the night.

  7. Correct Panthers wouldn't have won without that masterstroke, clever move.

  8. So we can use Basso in 14. Lyon is the best manager in the league so he knows what he's doing.

  13. No, no problems with Sam. He is a legend up here and much loved. I’m sure ice and Ibuprofen did the job. He has not hidden his distaste for Scunny. Glad to see he will be back on form with Josh for Friday when your mob come to Armadale. Should be some fine tussles with him and the good twin!

  14. Reliably informed that the Edinburgh team manager saw Sam's foot injury before the meeting @ Scunny, & it was badly swollen. Sam is very loyal to Edinburgh and found it too painful to continue during his second ride. Despite the comments by the would be "medical experts" on here, it's not unknown for the recovery process to improve sufficiently 48 hours after the injury occurred in Poland, to be able to resume racing. It also should be noted that r/r would have been the only option otherwise for Wolves tonight.

  15. It was announced at the Scunny v Edinburgh match that Dave will miss the rest of the season due to going into hospital. . Here’s wishing him a speedy recovery from whatever the medical problem is he suffering with

  16. Correct, Sam wouldn’t of pulled out yesterday If it wasn’t bad. Has to much respect for the club to do that.

  18. Just for interest and for our Glasgow friends with a good memory the chap standing in field on the second bend was Jackson Irving... I offered to hold the dogs while he had a spin but he was slightly worse for wear...(and politely declined) https://blantyreproject.com/2019/03/1986-blantyre-speedway/#:~:text=paulveverka-,3,-years ago Regards THJ

  20. It`s not total madness if you are Poland paying big bucks expecting the riders to perform and not be exhausted by riding every night all over Europe. Sweden and Denmark both run squads so it should be possible to come up with riding number of nights per week instead of number of other league`s.

  21. He is 25 not 35 ???…. Only 2 years older than Dan Bewley !!

  22. I suspect it was the best option unless you know otherwise.

  23. Where did you get that from? The BYC wasn't covered, since the Scunny stream is done by a young and enthusiastic group of lads, some of which had college, etc, to go to today and it takes significant time for them to pack up the gear.

  24. Great attitude. To take it a step further, Leicester won at Mildenhall in the league a couple of weeks ago. Using your logic, is there any point Mildenhall turning up for the final? Or just give the trophy to Leicester now? Wouldn't that be the most sensible option?

  28. I think speedway will only survive in the U.K. if we can build new tracks. They will be out of the way and capable of accommodating the modern speedway bike that is now too fast for some of our historical tracks. Sadly the south of England is now a waste land to the sport with land values encouraging more developers into building more and more housing.

  29. Most interesting to me was the start, where the riders were held a couple of yards (don’t recall the exact measurements) and when the green light (or whatever) came on, they moved to the tapes which immediately rose. No gardening, no rolling. Ah, the good old days. Will we ever learn from them?

  30. Any forumlanders out there who attended this meeting. Living in Canada I just had to go.. A reasonable crowd , but there was absolutely no publicity-nothing in the L.A. papers for example. Les Collins had the meeting of his life- but of course the main thing was the Kenny Carter-Bruce Penhall clash. On balance I have to go with the refs decision to exclude Carter-great meeting though. I met quite a few British fans -for some it was the holiday of a lifetime. Also met Dave Jessup at Disneyland-seemed like everybody had a wonderful time.

  32. Maybe cos Wolves would have had to do r/r anyway, so if Sam struggled with his injury and had to pull out then would have reverted back to IRR. So wouldn't have really lost out. Bit like Peterborough ended up doing with MPT.

  33. There are arguments for and against here. The way I see it, is that the team results have to expunged from the league tables since there is no fair way to leave them in. The rider averages are, however, a measure of their current riding ability whether the races that contribute to that average are from expunged meetings or not. I don't, however, see why new averages should be subsequently calculated at year end removing the expunged meetings (if that is what you're saying happened last year reference Eastbourne).

  34. Have you not been watching much British Speedway LC? I would suggest it is a very good crowd... Poole get 1300-1500 or so dont they I seem to remember Steve S mentioning not too long ago.. Which, given they are Div 2 is no mean figure.. When they were in Div 1 they did get over 2000 quite regularly when Ward and Holder rode there didnt they? However, they were not getting those crowds when they decided to drop down I would imagine, hence the decision taken to drop... Any crowd over 1500 is good for British Speedway nowadays, and at £20 a pop brings in circa £30k which means you should be able to pay two meetings out of it and cover your staging costs I would think, with maybe a bit left over.. Even when HMRC is paid their dues...

  35. In front of one man and his dog... Only add on for me tonight was they missed an opportunity to get a crowd in next week.. "Bring a friend, bring a neighbour" is not really much of a marketing plan, but fair play to the presenter for giving it a go.... Half price tickets tonight, or maybe better, even BOGOFs, would have brought a fair few back who simply wont be there next week as many there tonight will watch it on TV... Been a better advert for the sport and the Aces brand too, and maintained momentum crowd wise, which sadly will be lost next week... When you get the feel good WOW factor... You milk it for all it is worth...

  41. I would have thought that any track getting 1,000 plus nowadays is regarded as "allright". Just needs the sport to cut its cloth accordingly starting with standardising bikes...fat chance of that I know!

  42. Is the average being used for Clegg his start of season one? With Newcastle's results and league points having been expunged from the championship table, their riders stats should be erased, too. Or is this too logical?

  43. The Aussie's in Poland would have a 5 point avg if they have been in a top division squad so would not fit.

  46. We cannot raise the importance of the British Final back to the days when it was a step on the road to the one off World Final, but at least the prize for winning the National Championship can have some real significance. The chance to step out in front of the biggest of crowds at the British GP and hopefully nick a few points is surely a big incentive. I love seeing the British Final winner at Cardiff.

  48. Speedway at Birmingham Wheels was unsuccessful during the three seasons of its operations there. There were many reasons for this, most of them being out of the control of Birmingham Speedway. The place was in its complete infancy, getting there was difficult and not very safe with no entrance via the main Bordesley Green Road, only via a dark and dismal lengthy back street (Landor Street) and approached through an unlit railway tunnel. The spectator facilities there were non-existant and what little spectator comforts were minimal. Sharing the track with banger cars was a disaster. This is possible at some existing stadia I know, but at the Wheels Park, the banger cars used it daily so preparation of the track for speedway meetings was virtually impossible. Even so, despite the problems, the track was a very good shape and before the cars wrecked it, produced some very good racing, and for all it's primitiveness, spectator viewing was very good. The speedway venture ended when at the instigation of the new Wheels Park Manager, an application to extend planning permission to beyond those first three seasons, was arbitrarily withdrawn, so Tony Mole who had just purchased the speedway rights, wasn't able to continue even though he was prepared to do so. Later attempts to get back into the Wheels Park using a different, unused part of the site to constructed a new exclusive for speedway track, were blocked by the same Wheels Park Manager. Could speedway have re-established itself there? I think it could have. We could have had our own track and used it for training as well as public meetings, and now that there is the access to the site from the main road, we could have capitalised on the fact that it is now on several bus routes, and that Adderley Park Rail Station is close by. The Wheels Park is still located in one of the less glamourous parts of the City it is true, so it might have been a long slow haul to get the club back on it's feet, but I always thought the place had possibilities. Now it seems that the City Council are looking for ways of recovering some of the massive debts it has run up in its efforts to promote the Commonwealth Games, and are trying to reclaim and re-sell the land on which the Wheels Park is situated. All the hard work which has gone into building a popular and well used operation from very small beginnings, will be wasted if they succeed, and I wish the group who are challenging this truly outrageous plan, every possible success in their opposition, and will be happy to help in any way if I can.
