  1. Special mention to Tom brennan 1st rising star to make the 1-5 1st rising star to get a heat 15 and if it wasn’t for a puncture on last lap probably would have won heat 15 just take a bow Tommy boy. A proper adopted ace that kid

  2. It's still a big gamble for someone to finance a new track somewhere and gamble that the crowd would support it. I think speedway in general is dying off for all sorts of reasons. I watched the Bellevue match last night and was expecting a bigger crowd in the main stand. Not sure how many was there. Maybe that's their normal crowd or maybe being live on tv affected it. There did seem to be alot of kids there though which i suppose is a good sign

  4. Good post Dean. I have watched a lot of telly Speedway this season and I reckon this meeting was the most enjoyable of the lot. But then I am a fan of Speedway RACING and we usually get that in abundance at Belle Vue. The moans about “we need a couple more riders” etc I find very boring. They should try living without their team due to closure. It is 100 times worse. In these days any fans whose track is still open should count themselves very lucky and stop bellyaching. great meeting, more of the same please. oh yes, one more plus - the complete absence of that bloody helmet cam which is and always has been a real pain in the ass

  5. Always enjoy reading your posts as you get the point of team sports which speedway clearly doesn’t

  6. Best chance we'll ever have on winning at Poole . Watched them at Armadale on Friday and wasn't impressed . Even if Craig is under the weather , its not huge issue . Our second strings and reserves could tip the meeting in our favour . If we can edge a win tomorrow night , top spot becomes a realistic proposition , but whether we finish first or second is pretty academic . On present form I dont fear anyone over two legs

  7. Apparently they have Nadine Dorres lined up as Minister for Culture and Sport to present the Prizes on Finals Day. She'll no doubt recall buying a Car off Danny Ford, seeing Mark Phillips ride at Badminton Horse Trials, thank John Campbell for his Soups, and praise Mr (Damian) Bates and Mr Dickson for being in many of her saucy novels.....oh not forgetting the picture of Barry Sheene that she had in her bedroom as a teenager.

  8. If Alex is learning from Dale Allitt, it would explain why the team are where they are now. Bottom of the league.

  9. Before I started riding I used to be that fan that went nearly everywhere with wolves, on coaches to away meetings,it was always the same crowd singing away our songs like Brian karger has no father or we all hate the spoons to the American national anthem, great times and we loved our clubs no matter how bad they were at times, it was a tribal thing now I don’t even go to wolves that often and don’t feel an affiliation with them, I still love speedway but I can’t get behind a bunch of riders that don’t “ride “for that team, they ride for the money and anywhere they can get it,the sport has created this modern way but the riders have pushed it just like the modern bike, the riders have pushed the bike and nobody has ever held them back and we are now riding bikes cost to much for little reward and certainly no reward for the sport, British speedway has got to understand it’s a team sport on bikes not a motorbike sport and when it does understand that the fans are the lifeblood of the sport

  10. Why does this worry a Poole fan? also, social rather than websites is the way most fans get their news is

  11. Truly baffles me Dean.. No point having teams in existence if you dont create rivalry.. I remember fondly the early to mid nineties when BV raced against Wolves.. A few hundred away fans at every meeting.. And plenty of (good natured) abuse between both sets of fans.. Add in "Sammy" swiping "Young Joseph's" leg away as they entered turn 3 and you had uproar.. Two things I could guarantee.. One. Both promotions would have loved looking at the fixture list and seeing as many of these matches planned in as was possible.. And two? Anyone visiting for the first time, or maybe had just started going a few times, would definitely have been back the week later.. Noisy, tribal followings... It is what makes a team sport successful, and delivers growth.. UK Speedway seems to be ran like a Group of Gentlemens Clubs with those who own them quite happy to have "somewhere to go" rather than worry about ever expanding...

  12. Got 11 in playoff final and 8+2 in the league meeting last season. I'd say that is quite good for him as took him a few seasons to get to grips with Poole. But in last few weeks going from getting maximums to scoring zero at Glasgow, goodness knows what he is going to do!

  13. 2021 - very few heats 13 & 15 (and a ride against reserves in heats 8,12 or 14) 2022 - heats 13 and 15 in every match (and no easy heats 8,12 or 14) Makes a difference

  14. Scunthorpe have had plenty of blank Fridays, so don't know what the 2nd leg hasn't been raced yet. Perhaps Scunthorpe know they will get knocked out by Leicester & won't make the play-offs, so are wanting to hold this meeting later on to make their season last longer? I can just picture it now though, lots of blank days during the season & finals still raced at the end of October!

  18. And we think it's just British Speedway that is a mess, a major international event moved 45 miles a couple of weeks before the event. Absolute shambles

  21. The point being made was that it "doesnt look good" when you see opposition managers laughing and joking with the opposition during a meeting,.. Regardless of the standard of the manager it shouldnt happen.. Riders too often do it every night and all it can do is give anyone watching the impression that "it mustn't really matter this"... Poland keeping teams (and fans), apart gives off the right message that "this means something".... Even both teams stood together watching from the same part of the pits is something that should change.. UK Speedway definitely suffers from not having "rivalries" which stir the emotions and therefore encourages attendance.. Watching team members and managers all getting on together during a meeting wont ever engender those rivalries.. I do understand though that for riders it might be a tad confusing at any given moment who is your team mate and who is your rival given it changes so often.. As an example. Splitting them in the pits would have many wondering "can I stand and speak with Bomber tonight or not, I couldn't last night, but could the night before, and I am pretty sure I can tomorrow?"

  28. You really are trying to make a meal of this aren’t you? My post regarding the payment was based simply an observation having checked a recent bank statement. As far as I was concerned the money was gone five weeks before. I really don’t care therefore if the delay was down the bank or Birmingham Speedway and am not attaching blame to either party. It seems like it’s only you who is interested in getting to the bottom of things. So, sorry to disappoint you, but that is the end of the matter. Without wishing to be rude, if this is bugging you, you need to get a life.

  29. Alex is a very long term King's Lynn Speedway fan and fan of speedway in general, he is one half of our main team sponsors, Minors and Brady, so a successful businessman with the attributes that go with it. When Peter Schroek lost his job I believe Alex was asked if he wanted to take on the job, obviously becoming main team sponsor he was more than interested in team fortunes, he learnt some of the ropes from Rob Lyon and Dale Allitt and is still learning I guess you could say ....

  33. The racing was OK but mainly waiting for the inevitable pass by the BV riders. Better gating by BV and it would have been a different story. Too one sided to get excited from my perspective.

  34. I can remember two or three very good meetings for BV and Lynn there, like many away heat leaders though over the years he has had nights at Poole where he's struggled. He's mega inconsistent this year but you would always want your own 1-7 riding if possible.

  41. To be fair the racing Henka and Mark Loram provided in the early nineties was bloody good, perhaps not NSS standard but much, much better than the carp at Lynn nowadays. Put proper shale on it and it could be very good again. A bit if perspective tonight, as Rob says Sheffield weren't much better last week and we have massively missed Niels since he disappeared, would have been much closer tonight with him present. But the Kildermand/Puk thing has been a cock up and from looking a good side in the cup matches we look a poor one now. Kerr and Jorgensen need to be moved on for next season, no ifs or buts. All a bit depressing really. A shame after a good start to the season.

  42. As long as he doesn't turn up and ride for them on Weds lol.

  43. Totally agree. He obviously loves his speedway to still be continuing in the NDL at his age, the CL is too strong for him to move up imo, the league needs weakening next year to encourage riders of his calibre to stick with it and be decent 2nd string/ reserves

  45. I fly with him normally a few times a month but wasn’t there when it happened. Still can’t believe it. Yes he did what he enjoyed but his poor family. Young daughter, son working in Falklands is just flying back. Hard to contemplate as like me he was safe. Ah great guy full of fun with a wicked sense of humour. Enjoy your time on earth folks. You don’t know when it could end.

  46. they wouldn't be riding more fixtures would they. If you look at league fixtures only (assume cups and Play Offs are as is) they're doing 20 PL and 20 or 18 CL. With a 10 team PL you'd be doing a max 36. So not too much difference but that's only if the PL clubs want to stage 18 home fixtures as opposed to the current 10? They're more likely to only want to stage 9 home fixtures (so as not to dilute the TV and sponsorship income) which would mean a rider going from c38 league matches to 18 league matches. and if the teams are reduced to six men then you probably end up facing the top riders just as often. the sums just don't add up for clubs or riders regardless of it being the right thing to do. reality is that the revised structure won't deliver the increases through the turnstiles to allow the clubs to afford the increases in rider rates, to compensate them for the reduced number of fixtures. the Pandora's box of doubling up once opened is difficult to close

  48. Knowing what I do now Steve you are probably correct... it's a massive undertaking to set up a new venue and it needs a person or persons to dedicate hours of time to the undertaking... Things would have had to rumble on at Brough which isn't ideal and the commitment needed to move to a new track in either time or money is unbelievable... if you commit full time to the project you can save cash but will struggle to run a business or hold down a job... or you can go the other way and throw cash at it which will save you the time element but you are paying for the service provision... It's one hell of a juggling act to get the balance right... so one or more of three types of people required... someone who has a business making money and they can park that and have someone else run it to put 80 hours a week into building a new track and running a Speedway venture for little or no return... someone with mega bucks who is a fan of the sport who is prepared to put something like 500k in up front and happy to lose around 100k a year thereafter... or something like the Worky effort with one man's vision spending some cash putting in all the spare hours and relying on some good will and support from a network of friends... Because the returns from the sport are limited unless things change it's going to be a big ask and risk to get someone to come in for the club now... IMHO... Regards THJ
