Ah yes. The meeting raced at Brough Park, as the Bandits were homeless. And Nig Close took Steve Wilcock off, and should of been excluded. Not that I am still bitter about the 29th October 1980. Lol.6 points

Don`t think they can PLAY-OFF PICTURE - HOW IT WORKS – The quarter-finals will consist of the 3rd v 6th placed team and 4th v 5th placed team, the top two teams will go direct to the semi-final. – The team who finishes top will have the pick of the quarter-final winners in the semi-finals. – All ties are over two legs, and any aggregate ties will be resolved by the Golden Heats format.2 points

2022 Speedway Regulations: 011.1.8 Faulty Starting Gate If, because of faulty operation of the starting gate, or for any other reason, the Referee considers a start to have been incorrect, they must immediately stop the heat and order a re-start with all riders competing. If the starting gate should fail to operate entirely, the Referee may start the heats by using the green light. The green light will be switched on to indicate ‘under starters orders’ and switched off to indicate the ‘start’. Alternatively, the green/National flag may be used.2 points

I organise 3 events per year ( autojumbles) https://en-gb.facebook.com/South-Midlands-Autojumble-454079101421891/ while some stall holders choose to take the option of payment in advance at a discount, the majority turn up on the day, cash is the only means of payment on the 3 entrance gates for the public , it has been going 32 years now Using these methods the stall prices have remained the same for 32 years and public admission has crept up from £2.50p to £4.00 in the same period, we looked at on line ticketing and basically it just meant some financial body was dipping into our cash as there would be a fee for their services/card readers/percentage charges, and if the system failed you were basically b*****ed Ok it is a fairly small event relatively, with approx 100 stall holders and around 900 plus paying attendees, but as the majority of customers are in the same ( or older) group as Speedway audiences, it still works, although last year we had some bearded hipster turn up without any cash and said he never carried any and we should take cards, he got instructions to the nearest cash point as strangely enough he did not have any mates who could lend him a fiver, what he thought he was going to buy off the traders with his plastic was anybodies guess as most would suggest a convenient slot for his credit card !2 points

There didn't seem to be any reason in particular other than no-one could believe Troy Batchelor scored 13 points!2 points

Anyone who thinks Max Clegg is better then Connor Coles needs their head checking . Connor with a faultless 14+1 for the cubs. Max Clegg just didn’t look comfortable, confident or give any ray of hope. We need to replace him before 1/8/22 while his average is higher.1 point

Back in the good old days you'd have riders put up against each other in second halves or even in match races to decide who would be given the last team place. If Connor Coles and Max Clegg were put into such a situation, I'd have to say that Clegg would be the winner1 point

We break from the league for this Mickley Mouse trophy . Tonight should be interesting though as Chris Harris is always entertaining and future Tiger , Knudsen , has his audition . Still it's usually a decent meeting when Berwick are in town , so a night of beer and entertaining speedway is on the cards1 point

Looks like Andersen dislocated his shoulder for Peterborough so that could be another guest unless he has the powers of amazing recovery but I can’t imagine a tight technical track like ours will help that and thank you to Lisa for buying the stream and anyone else who does as we all moan and gripe on here which is great to read even if we don’t all agree with each other but in the end of the day we are all speedway fans and if we don’t all stick together and help each other out when we can we as a sport and fans will keep losing clubs ,that doesn’t mean I’m not going to boo Lawson though lol .1 point

During my time I have been one of the merry band of volunteers at a few tracks for pre-season duties & then throughout the season & yes my reward was free entry for myself & usually a programme, At one track there would be a tray of sandwichs & a fruit cake for us after racing, The biggest problem in recent years as the single volunteer still gets their entry & often a programme or at least a race sheet. But greed has become a factor & many expect to be able to bring a group of family & friends in with them & if one volunteer brings 5 people in for free that works out to be £2K+ by October. You don't need many of those before you have a big dent in your budget.1 point

In many ways it is a ridiculous sport, however naming an old style number 8 when using RR isn't. It's something that should happen. On another note looking at some old photos of Ipswich circa 1990 they had a squad of 11 riders & no doubling up. Speedway the only sport to have spent 30 years in reverse!1 point

I’m afraid Macgregor needs to go to Specsavers,Knudsen just ran out of track trying the outside line ,Basso was nowhere near him ,excluding him was joke.Flint done exactly the same thing on the same bend trying to go round Knudsen in his fall. The 4 Berwick falls were all self inflicted IMO.They took hefty knocks don’t know how they will be feeling tomorrow morning.Bandits didn’t have lot going for them.Ricky was terrible, thought Knudsen was impressive on his first visit, certainly giving everything and looked stylish.IMo.1 point

I would estimate that 90% of duties performed at Speedway are by volunteers with the reward free admission. Think that is becoming an issue in the sport for a number of reasons.1 point

Bates would be begging those same customers to turn up every week if he was getting low attendances at Owlerton. Bates' logic I can't accept any kind of constructive criticism from my customers so please stand around and be quiet like a primary school kid sat in detention while I do my utmost to make the sport look like an even bigger joke in this country and if you don't get the 15 Heats of racing that you paid for then it's not my problem.1 point
-
If Bates is publicly expressing his disappointment in his paying customers expressing their opinion it shows all you need to know as to why speedway finds itself in its current position......1 point

I think that gives you the answer as to why speedway was once (relatively) successful. I do think speedway is quite difficult to market for a number reasons, not least because it's just sunk so low in so many ways. Incoherent and at times farcical organisation, poor facilities that potential spectators and sponsors wouldn't want to go anywhere near, an almost non-existent wider public presence, and a rapidly ageing fan base. There's no money to try to improve facilities, little collateral to borrow money against, and very much a hand-to-mouth existence that makes any sort of longer plan difficult to implement. But I think the sport does need to consider what price point it can realistically pitch itself at, work out what it can afford to pay, work out what riders are prepared to ride for what it can pay, and then base its structure on that. And that also means riding when people want to want, putting itself out on social media, have paid streaming for all teams and meetings (not just half of them). There should basically be a two-tier structure - one regular league where costs are pitched to ensure there are always 12-16 teams, and a more flexible developmental league for everyone else. A 6-team top league is a joke, just screams that sport can't get its sums rights, and no serious sponsor is going to want to get involved. I also think you need to consider central contracts to control rider costs, try to ensure the same 6 or 7 riders ride in each meeting (barring injuries), and offer longer meetings with some sort of meaningful 'gimmick' competition after the main match to try out different concepts. Quite simply, maybe 4 riders going round in circles all the time is boring and it needs 8 or even 12 riders in some sort of F1-type configuration. It might be unpalatable to some existing fans, but they won't be around forever...1 point

I didn't go last night, but the amount on the terraces can be a little deceiving. They are limited to only 2,000, so the terraces never look full even when it's sold out. That said, it wouldn't surprise if the crowd was a little down, chances of reaching the playoffs dwindling/non-existent etc. It will be interesting to see if it picks back up for the Jubilee Trophy. The online gimmick is still definitely a factor, though. I couldn't go last night, and my old man would have gone on his own if he could have paid on the gate with cash. He didn't fancy buying a ticket online as he's not that comfortable doing it. I'm sure he's not alone in that feeling.1 point

Wouldn't too excited about tonights performance. It was a good win, but no top heat leaders against us so we will look good1 point
