How can anyone justify the cut off date being extended with the summer we have had, I can't remember a summer with so few rain offs.5 points

The podcast is well worth a listen Dan comes across very well and has high praise for the new Northside track and what Steve Lawson has done to help him get to where he is now, IMO Dan is a future world champion5 points

International referee Krister Gardell on a livestream saying he would exclude both blue and white here, Woryna for going down and then Hansen for taking Smektala out4 points

I knew when I started this thread it would be quiet... I've got to be honest, I'm beginning to wonder why I bother with this forum with all the mud slinging going back and forth and it's the same for both sides of that argument! I also get the sense regardless of the weather, the Gladiators promotion are in a no win situation here. The forecast suggests rain is likely for the next three-four days, as i type this it's pretty torrential outside my front door and I'm in the middle of the city. If it's called off, people will moan and complain. If we race, and have 3/4 guests... people will complain4 points

The Brummies could sign the top 3 in the world but it's not going to make any difference to the average Joe in the street. There needs to be a monstrous change in how speedway is put out into the public eye to make it sustainable otherwise deep pockets and passion just aren't going to be enough. And this goes to every club, not just Birmingham.4 points

I think this is the easiest thread to answer ive ever seen on the forum lol 1. All the cheating they have done over the years....... far more then any other team 2. The fans.....every club on this forum has its fair share of strange forum posters........just that Poole have the worst by a long way.....some of them are decent ...Skidder, chrisforgillian, poole keith.................unfortunately let down by the troll Shovlar and his merry band of sycophants...........its great to see that even fans of the other championship teams now get to see what us top flight sides had to put up time and time again 3. Jealousy.....................not one speedway fan is jealous of Poole yet if you dare to criticise the club their fans cant debate and just scream jealousy.........so far away from the truth 4. Big club mentality....are Poole a big club.....in a way....are they the biggest....no4 points

Not that Glasgow would have done anything like this in previous years gone by4 points

Hey, we all get our kicks in different ways. If your lot came to ours, with no, Worrall, King, Lawson and minus a Cook. On the only night, many potential guests were unavailable, I’m not sure I’d be too excited about it. Or too proud of my promotion if they’d forced it to be that way. But, we’re all different… Hope you enjoy your night.3 points

Hansen maybe excluded for knocking off Smektala.... but as Woryna already off he should also go3 points

Think they have their hands tied quite tightly with the planning constraints. I am quite critical of Plymouth but I do think they have been shafted a bit over this.3 points
-
Are you looking for a day out in the Ocean City? unfortunately as others have said the planning restrictions limit meetings greatly. However running the Centurions and helping secure the development of the future Ablitt’s, Kemp’s etc is a worthwhile and entertaining use of available Tuesdays. Certainly helps out the other clubs without the foresight to do so….. Could be worth a trip down for you? Beyond that, I think there used to be the odd car boot sale etc.. Can let you know if any happen, if that’s your kind of thing?3 points
-
Speedway's failure has been that it has had people running it that call themselves promoters but openly admit to losing thousands of pounds a meeting to keep it going. If these men running it are prepared to run a business this way, what hope have we of survival? Again they'll be little panic in the winter. No doubt we'll have the Play-Offs, a decent crowd, and go into the winter with promoters using short-term memory (of the past two weeks) to say it's been a good season.3 points
-
Think even the Play-Offs have taken a dive in recent years. The semi-finals no longer are rammed full, same with finals. The issue is, they're exactly the same as a regular meeting. There's no fanfare at all & except an extra £5 on the gate. Punters are turning away from the Play-Offs too in favour of watching on TV3 points

OMG (apologies to anyone who has just returned from Sunday morning worship), but I've just turned off my laptop and turned it back on again.......and Yes its still there... the Pirate hater GAVAN has called me a 'decent poster' !! OMG (apologies again) and I thought I had him on 'ignore'!3 points

For LEAGUE racing what happens inside the fence is a bonus but not the most important, the most important is what happens outside the safety fence, the fan experience, how that fans feels, if that fan supports their team and there is a bond with that team and they are with other like minded fans (the more the better)creating an atmosphere and their team hopefully wins with maybe some controversy thrown in even if the racing was crap the fan experience will be a good one and make that fan want to go back, this is basically what happens in any team sport even football, add in value for money and you’re on a winner, we all want great racing but great racing infront of a few fans with no atmosphere will be a negative fan experience, it’s the opposite for a TV audience as tv can’t capture atmosphere so relies on good racing , just think back when you went to away matches back in the day on a coach or with your teams fans and you watched a dull meeting with no passing and your team got battered but the 50 or so of you supported your team and had a blast creating an atmosphere, it was a good fan experience, it didn’t matter what happened inside the fence3 points

I’m sure this will be a quiet thread! Fixture now confirmed. Weather forecast looks abysmal for the South and South West next week which won’t help. No idea on the team or any guess for us Gladiators. Poole going to look for a guest for Worrall or operate R/R? Unfortunately I feel this has come at the worst time with Hans now also out. Leaves just Morley, Complin and Coles currently fit and available. I’m sure other people will find this as a great cause of humour but as a Gladiator fan, I’ve found this season deeply frustrating with our injury issues. Personally speaking, I’d rather have our own riders to support than constantly changing guests every meeting but that was the hand we were dealt. It’s still been a great season for the club despite all the trials and tribulations. We shall kick on in 2023 I’m sure. Poole should be too strong, probably over both legs. Hopefully we can get two big crowds for these meetings.2 points

That’s all it is though. Don’t think any Champions or other teams in the play-offs in recent years can say their attendances increased as a result - each following year they start from scratch …2 points

Cheers for the mention Gavan....but it's '4' not 'for' Yes, some of us are decent and haven't got completely blue tinted glasses on all the time. When we've been a little 'iffy' over the years, I've always put my hands up and said it's not something I support, however since Ford the younger has taken the reigns things seem to have settled down and nothing 'dodgy' has taken place in the last couple of seasons. I would never say any other club supporter is jealous of us, we all support our chosen clubs for our own reasons. Period.2 points

Haha, I don't have anyone on ignore but you have to ask why it has taken him so long considering how he hates us so much. Luckily I don't come under his decent poster tag. I doubt any Poole fan wants that dubious accolade!!2 points

World class riders back in the day but probably never really considered the worlds top ten on a consistent basis Go back to the early 80's.....Jessup, Simmons, Lee, Carter, Morton, Peter Collins...all world class riders who by 1984/85 were either past their best or lost to the sport The 1986 British Final top 3 was Evitts, Phil Collins, Doncaster,........good top level riders but none of them (apart from Doncaster) went on to do much more on the world stage....1986 was for me a changing of the guard From 1987 - 1990 you then had genuine World Class performers breaking through.......Tatum, Wigg Cross, Doncaster, Smith, Thorp....winning the World Team Cup although obviously in tragic circumstances 1991-2001 - a decade where another new wave of English talent come through...arguably better then the 87-90 guys........Havelock, Louis, Loram, Screen, Dugard I would then say from 2001 until 2013 we havent had what i would class as riders capable of making the step up to World Champion Any rider that can be in the world top 16 for a number of years is World Class to me....Nicholls and Harris were ....but i could never see them as making the next step up to a world title contender or even a regular rostrum contender.....Lee Richardson was to me a level below Harris and Nicholls at their best. From 2001-2013 we had riders like Robson, Howe, Kennett, Barker and Stead being on rostrums in British Finals and as good as these riders were and great servants to our sport none of those could be considered world class or likley to have made a break through at international level We were lucky with Tai and now we have 3 riders in the top 8 in the world we should embrace it...enjoy it and back these boys........whats important is the progression of the next level of riders and to what level we can get those guys to Will Brennan and Flint be the next Nicholls or Harris or will they make the step up to be the next Havelock , Loram or Woffinden2 points

Clubs wanting to delay the inevitable is definitely to be frowned upon, BUT Play-Offs take precedence.!!2 points

It's only logical really if as people have suggested Glasgow move up (their set up deserves highest level but they'd lose local derbies and I'm not sure the highest level is as interesting or competitive as CL) and if Edinburgh either can't get new Stadium sorted in time or more likely can't use Armadale for at least part of the season until it is ready. Then presumably Brennan as an asset would ride for Glasgow in top league and Pickering would need a Club in the CL too. Both then would have most weekends free for Poland or European International opportunities. I have to say whilst applauding everything Nigel and his new team have done that the losses he has admitted too very openly are just not sustainable in any sensible assessment. Ball park 150-200 k for 2021 has been quoted. Its possible costs may be cut more but I doubt either Brennan or Pickering would take a pay cut to ride for Brummies and may cost more than we have. I just can't see crowds rising substantially so the only option, which Nigel has mentioned would be to either bring in new Directors (he said two) or new Sponsorship (presumably by a new Promoter or Specialist - possibly Lee Kilby/ who is very popular at PB) Theres a lot of if's and but's there, IF Glasgow go up, if Edinburgh don't run and equally IF Brummies do run. I will enjoy some good riders on Wednesday and baiting the old enemy from dingle land and fingers crossed we will have Speedway at PB in 2023. Whatever happens Mr Tolley a massive THANK YOU, I suspect you've lost a small fortune and far more than envisaged and no one would blame you if you pulled stumps but as always no one sees the lots of things Owners and Promoters do right and just moan about dust and bumps and the occasional glitch. THANKS to ALL connected with Brummies in 2022. I haven't been to as many matches as i'd like, initially some by choice and latterly due to some unexpected family issues but its that time of year when you realise best to support while its there so I look forwards to purchasing a 2023 season ticket for the first time in many years and thank you for your efforts.2 points

So it's acceptable for Scunthorpe to delay the KOC by THREE months, but not acceptable for Plymouth to delay the play-offs by SEVEN days?2 points

By all accounts Swindon Geyhounds will shut in Jan..So no Swindon Speedway for the foreseeable future...Just got to wait for Swindon Speedway and Tomlinson statement about searching for a new venue that has no chance of happening but will be liked by the same fools who thought the Stadium would be built.Gaming int have done it again.and closed another speedway track down2 points

Given Birmingham owners comments on BSN at U21 final the insinuation is that Brennan and Pickering are signing for Birmingham next season? I think Glasgow and Edinburgh management will have some serious issues with that!!2 points
-
Don’t think it matters really, both sets of riders have been at each other's tracks enough times to know what they need to do and both could be prepared differently from the cup meetings but that quite often catches the home riders out. Leicester are a very strong side, some would say the strongest in the league so it will be close but if we can beat them in the cup it will give us confidence for the playoffs.2 points
