And not so vocal when they've done it themselves I don't really have a problem with it, riders are self employed tradesmen only ever under contract for eight months at a time, if they can get themselves sorted for the next year nice and early then good for them.4 points

A change of track will help him improve for sure and think the brothers will spanner for each other durning the season along with their father so plenty help around them3 points

That's the problem; they make things too complicated, not all the options are published, and nobody knows what's going on.3 points

My husband attended this meeting and was very emotional when he passed the news to me. I then became 3 times as emotional as him. Whatever the outcome well done to all those involved in a possible return. I'm cock-a-hoop for a positive result and will transition from an armchair supporter of speedway at to my local club.3 points

And why hasnt someone else been given the chance to run the sport in the brand new facility that still needs to be built to comply with the building permission for the houses.. ?3 points

Think the time was right for him to move on and I am sure he will leave with thanks as he has been an excellent servant to the club. At this stage a move back to his parent club just might reignite his form.2 points

Any truth in the rumour that you may seek to swap Zach Cook for Richard Lawson and then loan Lawson to Glasgow?2 points

You cannot afford to run the Premiership at too much more of a level than it is now ran at I would suspect... Therefore, running the 2nd Division (also the middle tier), at a lower level is the obvious way forward... It gives clear demarcation between leagues first and foremost, which is important in selling "the brand".. And It provides a more realistic bridge between the NDL and the top league, which should benefit younger riders, and also maybe attract more teams up from the NDL into it, (Mildenhall, Kent, Workington?).. And if some more "top riders" come over, and ride in the top tier, that will take spaces of current DU's, so the 2nd tier will have plenty of "decent talent" still within it.. Especially given seven Leicester riders will also be available... It could mean that, for once, supply will exceed demand in the 2nd Divsion, which can only be good for cost control as well as having spare riders to cover injuries rather than using guests... Which can only be a great thing for the sport..2 points

Not sure I'd agree with that. Joe's average at Leicester was 5.62 (6.64), while away from home he was 1.94 (2.71). So scoring well at Scunny isn't what's needed to up his average imo. Also depends if he rides at 6 or 7, Scunny always put their strongest reserve at 7, Joe at 6 may only meet a reserve in one or two races, so even if the league has weaker number 6s he wouldn't meet them often!2 points

Totally agree, love watching riders for first time never knowing what going to get. But for every Josh G we had a Michael penfold. For every Nick Morris there was a Peter juul. We'll see but I'd take a chance our promotion looking at vissing and Starkey over any untried foreigners on a 52 points

Fair play to Osbourne Clark a ex landlord with no interest in Speedway is Helping us put a new stadium together .. what a thoroughly nice chap2 points
-
This would be laughable if it wasn't so sad... The front of messrs Russell and Osborne seems to have no limits. Have to laugh that the rationale is the lack of multi-use options at Blunsdon. Err...are you not supposed to be building a new stadium? Maybe, just maybe, adjust the plans to accommodate those options? Full of rubbishe...2 points

I wouldn't believe a word Terry Russell says, he's probably sunning himself in the Caribbean burning his way through the Gaming International bung.2 points

The danger is of course, that Brandon Estates will now sit tight for perhaps 20 years or more, knowing that it will not decrease in value. I'm as pleased as everyone else at the outcome of today's planning meeting and really hope that Brandon Estates get the message that they and their proposals are not wanted.2 points
-
Brandon Estates will appeal. Appeals are dealt with by Planning Inspectorate (professional planners - no democratic involvement). Meanwhile they'll submit another application (the exact nature of it will depend on the precise terms of the reasons for refusal, which they will (pretend to) address.). Usually with a contentious site the developer will keep plodding away with appeals and new/revised applications for 5 years or more. If council don't look like buckling they'll probably offer some form of planning gain as a carrot.2 points

I think the "E-Ticket only" also helped to keep people away. My wife, son, two grandchildren and myself would have gone if we were allowed to print out tickets as we have been able to in the past. The no printout email ticket policy prevents oldies (some may say dinosaurs) like me who do not have, and do not want a modern phone, at up to date prices, which many of us cannot afford, are being discriminated against, in this modern technical world.2 points

Anyone imagining that there will be a reduction in admission prices is living in a dream world. Clearly Championship promoters are looking to cut costs so they are hardly likely to give away what they might save. I fully agree with the poster who suggested that there are numerous rider riding in the Championship who shouldn't be performing at this level at all, and it is these who are pushing up the costs so a way has to be found to exclude them. Some supporters won't like it, but it has to be done. Allowing doubling-up has been the most damaging decision that the BSPL have made, but we are lumbered with it now, and the only hope is that it can eventually become more limited - but to be honest, I wouldn't bank on this happening.1 point

Out of interest, has anyone who previously promoted the idea of behind-the-scenes corruption, "brown envelopes" or "money talks" eaten their words yet? There was as much evidence of corruption on show last night as there was of Donald Trump's election having been "stolen" from him.1 point

Don't think be any chance of KJP. More chance of one of the Knudsen brothers or a certain Mr Bowes jnr I'd have thought. Also not sure our promotion want to be taking the risks on untried foreign riders. In a reverse from what used to happen we let other clubs take the risk then sign them once proven can cut it in the UK.1 point

Amazingly, part of their team, on the website, under ‘professional team’ is DPP planning consultants and the very man that was at Rugby Borough Council last night campaigning to get Brandon closed down and was slating speedway! at points 1:13:17 and 1:29:28... interesting comments!1 point

Bloody hell, a pint in all the bars mentioned in Worky will put me into double figures & wobbly territory lol. Would definitely give it a go if we make it up next year though.1 point
-
Can only be a good thing at that price. It's expensive enough for the average rider to keep their bikes up to scratch without needing the next bling thing.1 point
-
Whilst a little more expensive, (£5 for the top tier) we bought tickets on the day from the ticket office next door and had an old school paper ticket. Not sure it was widely shared that this would happen, just lucky I work in Cardiff and popped in to ask a week or so before A lot easier with a larger group who all went their separate ways to meet in the stadium after.1 point

I'll tell you how good this is. I've just had a couple of teeth out and I'm still on top of the World. When you listen carefully to what the planning officer said last night to support the decision to recommend acceptance of the housing proposal, you have to wonder what planet they are from. The justification was spurious, at best. The good thing was that the council weren't buying any of it and they raised other objections as well. And the speech by Tony Gillias was heartfelt and particularly damning of the decision to recommend acceptance. And then to have the council reject the proposal, unanimously was just brilliant. I'm not counting my chickens yet, but this was a wonderful first step on the road back.1 point

It's not football lol..you think riders don't talk to clubs during the season without permission from the club own their contract? Most riders are set up by September, they don't want the long winter wait. I can't be sure it will happen same as you don't know it won't happen until such times as an announcement is made. And as been said blobby gets a lot of this stuff right1 point

Could we all have a whip round to assist poor old Arthur. He clearly needs a few slices to complete his loaf as he's obviously missing some - even stale ones will fill in the gaps.1 point

Is there any proof of this? Are you confusing the UK TV deal with a Polish one? I got the impression that Eurosport picked up speedway on the cheap i.e. Eurosport cover their broadcasting expenses and the BSPZzzz were to make do with just getting the continued TV exposure, after SkySports and BT had had enough. I don't recall hearing any talk of the deal involving money going back into the sport, other than at the top level where Eurosport's parent company, Discovery got into bed with the SGP series.1 point

Sorry been busy As @Neila said New Worky Travel Lodge 10 mins walk to Northside and that's even using the same Zimmer @geoff100 uses and 10 mins walk into town to the main drag for a drink in Worky... Not been since Covid 19 started but there is a Wetherspoons and the run along the main strip in front of the other hotel called The Washington Central Hotel is a good night if you get your timings right as the place is like Whitley Bay in Newcastle every one moves at certain times to the next bar and there are several drinking establishments usually starting at The Curwen; Dukes Bar; 32 Bar; Soul Suite; 2 Bar: Ship Inn: The Well: The Junction; Padua's Bar all within 300 metres then the hotel is about 50 metres away from them all (so no Zimmer required) and the British Legion if you carry a club card or you could stay in the Golden Lion in Maryport and there are 8 bars within 100 meters of that spot with an excellent curry house in the Maryport Tandoori (Ali the owner is a sound guy) but about a 5/6 mile run to the Northside track; however you are more than welcome there if you want to tie in for a beer or two no problem... well that's my bit for the Cumbria Tourist Board... I wont be the team manager we have a young and thrusting young chap lined up for that role... keen as mustard he is... Saturday or Sunday afternoon racing to start with which will be decided at the first Management Committee Meeting in the Golden Lion at Maryport on the 25th of November 2022 and if anyone wants to get any information first hand we will be in the Bar once the meeting is over hopefully by 9pm at the latest... any and all are welcome for a beer... After a fight the Electric Company are putting a transformer back in but we will have to wire up to a feed pillar next to it... Finally cables for floodlights being priced up now however this will be one of the biggest investments we will have to make so maybe not the first season to race under lights but it will come eventually and anyone looking to be a sponsor lets have a chat and anyone wanting to invest lets have a chat and anyone wanting to fund a foray into the Championship lets have a chat as any and every option will be explored... ordered mine and had this e-mail: Hope you are keeping well. Thank you for pre-ordering the Peter Collin’s autobiography. Apologies the book will not be published until next month and the slight delay has been caused by the fact that we have added considerably more content (resulting in more pages) in terms of words and photographs – many only becoming available very recently. (It’s amazing what PC has uncovered!). We now hope and expect to be posting the book – signed by PC – before the end of October. Very sorry for the wait. Many thanks for your patience and understanding. We believe the wait will be well worthwhile.1 point
