  6. And, then of course was the Californian Poppies, who rode at California in England, (sometimes called Little California) near Wokingham, Berkshire. They closed before I became a speedway fan, although I did see speedway there in my pre-teenage years. I cycled from my home in Whitley Wood, near the now defunct Smallmead Stadium, to the fair etc. that was there at the time but saw a few heats before it was time to head home with my brothers. It was to be at least another decade before I attended another meeting- staying for the whole meeting this time-with a couple of fellow Reading FC fans who I had became friendly with, who were also speedway fans. We often managed to attend an away footie match and then go to a local speedway track, but mostly attended the Racers meetings and also the Wimbledon Dons, which my wife still thinks of "her team".

  12. Presumably it will be one of those injuries that only prevents him riding Monday and Thursday.

  13. An interesting suggestion. The sport is probably too long in the tooth for such a radical change though. Promoters aren’t going to want to pay last place money either when cost cutting is what makes the world go round at present.

  14. Seems pretty common knowledge in the stockcar world that Buster has sold both Lynn and Peterborough.

  15. The big news appears to be that Michael Tomalin will be/is the new owner of the panthers. Considering he has his business on the showground already, I'd imagine both will staying together one way or another

  20. The same "idiots" that everyone will be expecting to put their hand in the pocket to watch meetings next season. Great stuff.

  21. Apparently, Chris Harris will be making a guest appearance for 2 of the promoters that can't make the rearranged fixture!

  24. Yea come over from Aussie we'll put you up no problem, did not say it was an old static caravan at the track, and your a security guard when your not riding

  25. Maybe extend the season to December (just in case).

  26. As predicted sounds like promoters can't agree on the colour of sh*t£

  27. A rider not pushing to the chequered flag when last is fixable in two ways. 1. Riders take a more professional approach to the participation. 2. A rider clearly demonstrating a "can't be arsed" attitude, should have his arse kicked by the team manager on every occasion (regardless of the rider's status or seniority).

  28. Maybe, seen Kerr mentioned as a possible. Thomas showed glimpses of very good scores last season before getting injured. The more successful teams last year showed that 3 heat leaders are needed really, an area Oxford struggled with last year.

  38. KK is 6.86. KL will struggle if it's him because Klindt would have to ride at No.1. I think you'll get Niels and I'll be jealous lol but if you don't then this will be your team and it's really rough imo. 1. Nicolai Klindt 7.39 2. Josh Pickering 6.14 (Pictured with Brady and Josh himself spoke like he's already agreed a deal to stay in a few weeks ago) 3. Michael Palm Toft 6.86 (Us at Peterborough have ITK's that say he's KL bound unfortunately) 4. Thomas Jorgensen 6.35 5. Krzysztof Kasprzak 6.86 6. Frederik Jakobsen 5.04 7. 3.86

  41. Yeah THJ in July I entered the track via a path beside the railway line and scrambled in at the corner next to freight thingys and tractor......that's the second time I've done that. Think I told you I thought it was too handy for the 'travellers' to do same. On that second visit, a proper sunny day, I wandered around took several pics....no other soul in sight...came home tried and tried to upload my pics on here but couldn't..yet again.....And again my thoughts were if I can sneak in as it were those Gypo's (I saw four vans nearby) would manage even easier. At my age, and fitness level, the scramble wasn't that easy. Maybe I should get an aforementioned zimmer ha, ha. But thankfully you say they didn't get in....therefore have you blocked that corner? Hope so THJ......if not I hope they don't read this.

  43. Hull Vikings did that in 2004 when they won the treble if I remember right 6 of the 7 riders had a spell at reserve during the season

  44. My friends in Barbados have just booked a two-week stay in Poole next June. I've told them to go to the speedway, but they said they won't have time as there's too much else to see.

  45. I'm sure there is no bias here, I mean from a Wolves supporters' point of view Ipswich were so poor that they beat wolves twice at Monmore, twice at Ipswich, then again in the pairs at Monmore and in the pairs at Ipswich. Shocking team

  46. I had an electric trials bike for a while, it was very impressive in most ways. Lack of power/ torque won't be a problem, there is a MX bike due to start being delivered anytime now that has various power settings but capable of producing 80hp. With electric motors that power can come in right from cracking the throttle if you want it to. The Trials bike and I believe the new MX bike came with assorted power maps as well so it can be equivalent to anything from 80cc to 500cc. I've seen electric bikes in flat track races as well and there is no doubt the lack of noise seems to detract from the spectacle. However with lack of noise comes a lack of complaints from neighbours as well so I am sure it opens up the possibility of motorcycle sports happening within towns again which is something that Speedway desperately misses. Indoor Speedway on a variety of surfaces is also far more possible. I would imagine one problem will be cost for a while yet, the Trials bikes are all but double the price of a petrol one and the Stark Varg MX bike is £10k which is a lot nearer a sensible price but still expensive for a Speedway bike. There is a possibility though that you could have series from kids through to GP's using exactly the same setup with different maps and bikes lasting for years with next to no maintenance. A lot of plusses but the big minus could be whether fans would ever accept quiet Speedway. Following the fuss about silencers and then further noise reduction (some seem to think the bikes are quiet now) I very much doubt that they will.

  47. No consolation I know but trust me it will be worth the wait and don't expect to get anything done for a few days once you pick it up, it's a fantastic read.
