  2. Hopefully Kennett can get his operation soon and is pain free so he can resume his career with Plymouth.

  3. Here we jolly well go... Full steam ahead and the first management committee meeting next Friday in the Golden Lion in Maryport... Let's see where we get with this little venture Regards THJ

  4. Scunthorpe for example don’t have national league side could get knocked out first round of the KO cup not qualify out the group of the league cup and could be finished all their home matches by the end of June/middle of July. How is that viable for a clubs.

  5. Just seen that they are going back to the aggregate bonus point. Speedway gives in to the grumpy old online whingers and does what it thinks that fans want. The 3-2-1-0-1-2-3-4 scoring did the job perfectly and was relevant in every match rather than just a second leg. Still, they'd already buggered that up, so I guess it doesn't really matter any more.

  6. So they announce 2 home and away then 2 weeks later decide they can't fit it in so we're back to 1 home and away plus the old premier trophy. And now we're given the stupid super heat. If the meeting is a draw it's a draw. We're not American that we can't handle the concept of a draw. Yes fine if level after 2 legs for the bonus point but otherwise just a nonsense

  7. From Saturday April 1st till Saturday August 26th is 22 weeks to fit in 8 league meetings going to be a lot of blank Saturday nights should just have done 2H + 2A meetings whoever finishes at the top wins the League Simples.

  8. Great News!!! All good, nothing to be negative about for me, superbly well ran sport... In fact, many sports would do well to copy what UK Speedway does... Roll on 2023... Form an orderly queue to get in at your local track. And get there early or you might not get in..!!!

  9. Only 11 guaranteed home meetings. I'm not happy about that as a fan, tbh.

  11. 100000000000 miles of the mark! It would be financial suicide for Mildenhall and Kent to move up especially Kent at Iwade. Workington closed down in 2018 cause they couldn't make the 2nd tier pay on low crowds and they won the League! Getting rid of the 3rd tier would wipe Mildenhall and Kent out of League racing and Workington wouldn't consider League racing without a cheaper Division to test the water. The 3rd tier in its many guises had been one of the best things to happen in British speedway since its formation in 1994. In fact a 3rd tier was needed from the 1970's as the great Ian Thomas observed at the time. The likes of Workington, Barrow, Ellesmere Port, Milton Keynes, Birmingham Wheels, Hackney, Scunthorpe and Mildenhall who all closed in the 1978-1992 era would of stood a better chance of continuing and maybe other venues like Norton Canes, Felton, Iwade, Castleford, Matchams Park and others would of seen League racing which would of changed the landscape of British speedway. Tracks like Rye House, Mildenhall, Somerset, Buxton, Stoke, Wimbledon, Arena Essex, Plymouth, Weymouth, IoW, Linlithgow, Carmarthen, Eastbourne, Birmingham and Rob Godfreys Scunthorpe would have not opened/reopened/kept going without a 3rd Division. - The 3rd tier has been a nursery ground/feeder for the higher leagues in both riders and tracks. Young riders would have seen development limited without the 3rd tier cause the old junior Leagues had run its course by 1992. On the subject of Junior Leagues - The Soutern Junior League, Midland development League and Northern Deveopment League were going well, ran at a lower level than the 3rd tier, until in their wisdom the BSPL decided they didn't like these Leagues so imposed sanctions that made running them in the previously successful format virtually impossible. The intended replacement The Premiership Junior league has been a farce so far with hardly any meetings taking place! All in all looking at the facts, the continued failure of the Premiership Junior League, current 3rd tier standalone tracks Mildenhall and Kent (in their current Iwade venue)) being unable to run at a higher Level and many young riders getting proper organised League racing experience then it becomes very obvious the 3rd tier has to continue!

  12. Probably because it's not now 2 home 2 away in the championship

  13. Should have gone 2 home and away and scraped the other competitions. The play offs should be top 4 none of this mini league stuff. I bet the unsuccessful teams will be finished in August and the Successful ones will be struggling to complete their fixtures before November.

  14. You've got to laugh at the KO cup draw. Plymouth v Poole again. As if that wasn't pre-agreed. This sport is an utter joke to be honest and I feel for supporters who genuinely care about their clubs. A reduction in the points limit, a reduction in home meaningful matches and the saviour being the aggregate bonus point. Seriously!!?? Year after year the useless powers at be avoid the key issues and they continue to dodge the elephant in the room that is; the sport is dying in this country and radical changes need to be made.

  15. If ever two posts said 'Poole are OK, idiot everyone else' then there they are.

  16. Let’s start taking bets on when they move the cut off date during the season. so a minimum of 11 home fixtures per club. So in theory you could be done for the year by the end of June. Shambles really.

  19. We’ve sadly reached a point where we have to have doubling up so riders don’t have to get a “proper” job on the side to keep racing. That says something. The sport needs to be semi-professional. It doesn’t owe the riders a living. Only those good enough to race full time should be doing so.

  21. I suspect that you will find the three clubs who did not want the 2H + 2A format all had NDL teams and said they would drop out of the NDL which would have possibly finished the NDL.
    3 points
  22. I think that may happen as I am sure some riders were looking for the increased fixture list

  23. Somebody with a computery type brain should set up a fan vote on here.2 home 2 away with no play off or 1 home 1 away with playoff.Send result to powers that be - but only if 2 home 2 away wins the vote.

  24. All in all more positives than negatives I’d say. The return to the aggregate points system will divide opinion but it’s a lot less convoluted than the system we’ve been using until now. Simplicity is generally best, easier to explain to fans who are new to the sport also. Silence on any changes or limiting to doubling up is concerning though. That’s the real evil in British Speedway.

  27. Couldn't make it up why announce 2 weeks ago 2 home and away fixtures some riders will have signed up thinking that was going to happen speedway gets more embarrassing by the day.

  28. It was obvious to anybody with a hole in their derriere that 2 home and away was never going to work when they can't complete 1 home and away and whoever suggested this and then went on to make it public really has no place to be in any position of running Speedway in Britain! And the 2 mini league play offs further devalue a league championship that already isn't really worth winning! As for the rest... business as usual

  29. Not enough meetings. 11/12 is not enough meetings. Means many weeks with nothing going on. Should have been two home and away. Scrap group comp. Dear oh dear very poor call.

  30. Playoffs should be no more than 2 teams out of 7 really. If its extended further, then teams should start matches with additional points graded on finishing position - otherwise no benefit to finishing top......maybe add 4 points per match for finishing top, 2 for second, 1 for third, nothing for fourth. Top place finisher v 4th place would start with 8 point aggregate advantage...

  34. CL even with more common sense pay restraint would be financial suicide for Mildenhall and Kent, at their current venue. Better to find a level where you can be sustainable and be pragmatic.

  35. We need to encourage Mildenhall and Kent to join the Championship. I'm sure Workington will make the jump once they've re-established themselves again. Scrap the NDL. Can always invent a proper, meaningful second half event for NDL standard riders. Just my opinion, don't shoot me.

  36. The team will be called Workington Comets, northside is just the location/venue name (within Workington). And a name a lot of people within speedway will know because of the previous training track From having a dig around, The BSPL have already quietly added the new team and track info to the site... https://britishspeedway.co.uk/team/workington-comets/

  37. Alfie Bowtell might be a decent shout. Be a good reserve and can win races at Poole, just needs to be awarded the win points when he actually wins races.

  39. Starting to think clubs went to riders who have clubs abroad and found either couldn't fit them in or they'd have to ride a number of fixtures without them and quickly backtracked. And I wouldn't be shocked if my club was one of the 3

  42. But Mountain will be 26 years old next year and has been riding continually since 2014, Brennan is 4 years younger. In my opinion neither should be on the RS list, if Mountain is you could make a case for Dan Bewley being on it as he is two years younger. Riders can't be rising stars permanently.

  43. What a shambles lose a club and in turn a meeting lost, was a short season as it was for scunthorpe Why bother at all We was really looking forward to home and away twice format a meeting what means something Ar well another nail in the coffin for speedway

  45. Name and shame the three promoters.. They just delivered a huge blow not only to us supporters but riders as well. 11 home meetings, hardly worth bothering with.

  49. The usual mix of the good, the bad and the ugly. Super Heats will divide opinion and while the bonus point system worked ok for years I personally preferred the 3-2-1-0-1-2-3-4 in its original form. Glad Rising Stars have been maintained, seemed little point in ditching it after a year. They seemed to have addressed the subject of August inactivity which for me was the biggest issue last season. A pity Glasgow didn't move up to make it 8/8 but there we are.

  50. With regard to the play-offs, a six team league having four play-off places is ridiculous. While the meetings in theory should draw bigger crowds for the qualifying sides having over half the league qualifying for the play-offs makes a mockery of the entire season. Play-offs are good for the TV granted but we should be looking at what’s good for the sport as a whole first and foremost. If we must persist then it should be three teams. 2nd versus 3rd in a semi for the right to a two legged tie against the team that finishes top.
