Superb to have Dougy back for 2023 he is the No1 at Scunny and arguably the Leagues top rider imo. Given the constraints of the 40pt the Management had done a great job. I had every rider on my sheet 1-7. Theres "improvement" right down the order and looking around rival 1-7s this has to be the most justified I have felt in saying we must be real challengers for top spot !. MPT is a key signing; if he can stay clear of knocks theres an 8pt + rider there. Jakes return likewise. We havent seen the best of Jake since pre 2020. But given a winter back home in Oz plus him securing a Prem place with Leicester. I really think we could be seeing the best of Shakey again. Theres a lot to be optimistic about in the the middle order too. Conor Mountain is one of the up and coming British racers. He comes in on the back of a great 2022 at Leicester & Prem Sheffield. Really unfortunate not to keep his place with Sheffield this season. Hes a bit of an EWR specialist and it will be interesting to see if he can put pressure on MPT-Jake for a heat leader spot. Lambo is Lambo; great clubman and skipper. Hes capable of big returns around Scunny. Ok the away scores may sometimes let him down. But gives nothing less than 100% and a really important part of the team. Zaine; its great to have him back after that shocking crash last season. He was finding good form when that happened and ended his season. From the reports in Oz hes going well and recently ran Dougy close in the Brisbane Open meeting. No pressure; I do expect Zaine to up his average this season and starts as reserve ! Finally Joe Thompson another up and coming British racer. Put in some great scores for Leicester last season. At times he was out scoring twin brother Dan who had looked the one developing the faster. JT knows the right way around Scunny haven ridden countless times at Development, National & Champ levels. He could be a real trump card at reserve. So like I say, we must be up there with a line up like this. If not something will have gone badly wrong. Lets look forward to a great 2023 I honestly think it can be our time. Merry Christmas & Happy NY one and all. Þ3 points

My prediction abilities are absolutely dreadful. So bearing that in mind I predict Edinburgh will win the league next season.3 points

Sure someone on here mentioned one more meeting for Marcin and his average will change to over 6. can’t find the post so perhaps I’m waffling which to be fair I’m good at that.2 points

Great move, from word go makes a team look a team, can't believe it doesn't even help with team bonding as well. Slightly more cost but worth every penny to me.2 points

How I'd quantify it is that Sam in particular has been a 9 plus man for 10 or more years in the champ, Dougie had a great season but if wants to usurp masters he'll need to do it consistently2 points

Some teams would love the disappointment of reaching two national semi finals while supporting two riders in their first UK seasons2 points

Not sure Oxfords top 3 is far stronger than Redcar's..... Masters is certainly the best of them but not sure Nicholls and Kerr are stronger than King and Wright2 points

My worry is most agree Birmingham are for the wooden spoon so what's there chances of finishing the season2 points

Rides on a British passport I believe. He's also rode in the NDL (Belle Vue Colts), so must be eligible for the 2.5% reduction.2 points

Think we all know skidder knows the team but he is good at throwing in lots of red hearing's alot?2 points

If 5-6 sides are near equal we could have some excellent meetings this season.Don't want any one sided matches they are about as exciting as rock climbing.2 points

GOOD Edinburgh -> Solid side with lots of improvement throughout the 1-7. Glasgow -> Strong top 5 but they'll have to be firing on all cylinders to compensate for the reserves. Plymouth -> Top 5 as strong as any other team in the league, Get the No.6 right and they'll be challenging for silverware. Poole -> Always put together title challenging teams and 2023 will be no different, Potential Reserve pairing of Newman/Roynon will be the strongest in the league. Redcar -> Brilliant side apart from James Shanes. Get rid of him early for someone like D. Thompson or Kemp and then Redcar will become title favourites imo. MIDDLE OF THE ROAD Scunthorpe -> Sitting on the fence with this one, Jake Allen will have to recapture his pre-covid form and if he does then Scunthorpe could put in a solid challenge next season but if he doesn't recapture that form then Scunthorpe won't be posing a threat on the teams above. BAD Berwick -> Very weak at reserve, TJ on a highly inflated average, How long will Schlein take to settle in? Too many issues with the 1-7 overall to put in any sort of challenge next year. Birmingham -> Awful no matter who fills the No.6 position, No firepower and lacks race winners, James Wright & Stefan Nielsen as a 3 & 4 is a huge worry. Oxford -> Very unbalanced and pretty much hopeless next season despite the HL trio because the tail is far too weak to put up much of a fight.2 points

As Frost/Mahoney found out when he was allegedly real box office. He wasn't the answer at 36 so buggered if I know what the question is that those singing his praises at 46 are currently tackling.2 points

Gladiator race suits in 2023 available for fans names (as well as company logos) to be added for a small fee. Shame the club didn't offer that this season as Lewy could have had his name on Eddie's race suit and we wouldn't have seen it all year!!1 point

All fixtures, for all teams, are announced at the same time. Usually February (although I think they were released back-end of January once).1 point

If Kyle participation in question then Bailey may not be a bad option. The Speedway Stats site gives a revealing insight on his development since joining Glasgow in 2019 as a 16/17 year old His actual GSA for 2023 is 4.32 after the 2.5% reduction. However the stats are interesting taking all league and play off matches over the 3 seasons. 2019 - 26 matches - 2.72 or 3.36 incl bp 2020 the lost season 2021 - 21 matches - 4.27 or 5.26 incl bp 2022 - 29 matches - 5.04 or 5.81 incl bp Even his one season in N/L for B.Vue 2 as a 16/17 year old was 7.28 or 8.05 incl BP Some think maybe he is just a home track rider. Yes his av at Glasgow last season was 6.35 or 7.37 incl bp. BUT just consider those stats for a moment. A 4.32 GSA young rider who is not 21 until Aug 2023. He has improved his av in each of the 3 seasons he rode there. On a 6.35 av plus an addl bonus point on av each meeting at home. If he can adapt to Poole could be a good signing against so many 2 point and low av reserves. If Poole are looking at young riders who can add to their average is this not a rider worth considering ?? Was also third in the British U21 Final in August. He is also signed up to Sparta Wroclaw U24 Team for 2023. Anyway for those who are interested in rider stats .1 point

Masters has been very good where ever he rides but struggles at Scunny, by his own admission. Dougie, by comparison, was gradually learning his trade in his early years, but came on massively having a year out in '18 to get over his injuries but was mentored back home by Darcy Ward & Davey Watt & told to get on a technical track more often. He returned to our shores in '19, opting to ride at both Leicester & Wolves, 2 difficult tracks but improved year on year. He returned to Scunny this last year, & what a year it was for him, not only at Scunny but away as well, winning the Ben Fund & who knows what could have happened in the CL Riders Championship when he was unable to ride in the re-run final.1 point

Kyle's painting and decorating is for one of his main sponsors, who is one of Poole's major sponsors and who has also worked on Matt's chateau!!1 point

Yeah looks certain he will be! Its a good lower end signing when you compare to other reserves1 point

Absolutely, I think Oxford's season hinges on those two really. I kind of feel that Heeps is a busted flush but Jenkins looked good at times last year and hopefully he can kick on in 2023.1 point

Mulford rode at ashfield for Kent behind closed doors. Was bang on the pace on a heavy track remember being impressed and bit surprised he's not come on more in the 2 years since. I've read more interested in the grass/ long track than speedway but given has place in both (three?) Leagues must be sign of commitment1 point

Then everyone looks strong I would say Scunthorpe (assuming Dougie is final rider) and Redcar look stronger than Edinburgh imo.1 point

But does every rider who ever put their leg over a bike need to make to to the CL and above... A Development league needs riders to pad it out, like the Ben Morley's of the future. Not everyone is going to make it, but why should they not be allowed to ride and enjoy the sport just because they haven't made it...? That's why some riders chuck the towel in, they lose enjoyment out of it because there's always this drama of who's going to be the next big thing and who isn't. I'm speaking first hand from experience here, me and many others before me have given up because we were classed as 'not good enough anymore' because we weren't the next Tai Woffinden, it's ridiculous. Plus... How do you know who is and who isn't going to make it until you've given them a chance, and I don't mean one or two seasons in the NL then throw them in the bin, I mean a proper stint with a bit of stability. Who knew that Jason Doyle was going to be world champion until his late 20s... If he was British he'd have been thrown in the bin years before that happened and no one would be the wiser.1 point
