  1. This season started with so much promise - the return of Bewley, Sayfutdinov, Kasprzak and Pedersen seemingly signalling the return to a more glorious era with star names. The birth of a new Workington to add to the success of Oxford last season, Leicester taking the plunge in the top league again, and the promise of some British youngsters continuing their upward careers. How could this turn so toxic and disappointing already? Peterborough's awful statement regarding their loss of Pedersen seemed to write off their season before it started, and now terrible news about Monmore Green has put another black cloud over the sport's future and it seems we're keen to discuss the death of British speedway again next season. So many people were saying how they were looking forward to this season - a month in all optimism has gone! How about we revel in what we have for this summer? By all means protest and petition but let's enjoy what we have and spread a positive message - what this sport needs is fans, paying money over the gates and this negativity already this season isn't going to help.

  2. Any other season I really would have took serious enjoyment over a result like this but there's a much bigger picture. The WHOLE of British Speedway is in ICU, there should be no genuine fan of the sport taking any enjoyment right now. The 2023 season is effectively over for all.

  3. Getting rid of Ben cook would be absolutely ridiculous, someone who I would class as a 100% trier/racer for Craig cook someone who spits his dummy out and gives up at the back is laughable

  4. Agreed: 7. Jordan Jenkins 1', 2, 2', 0 = 5+2 - can't complain at that, he's far from the problem.

  6. He has though. Just pay Zagar the money he wants and then our team becomes more competitive, Instead of choosing to run with R/R or an engine room Guest at No.1. Failing to meet Zagar's asking price = Lack of commitment and desire to turn our campaign around.

  7. Look at the state of the last 3 chairmen of the BSPA and in charge of the sport in this country: Harkess, Chapman and Godfrey. Grim.

  8. It was nice to read Rob Godfrey's rallying Churchillian war cry, FINALLY for some reason this Wolves news seems to have hit home with him despite his Charimanship since 2018 seeing the closure of Rye House, Somerset, Swindon, Lakeside, Newcastle, Workington, Buxton, Cradley, Eastbourne, Kent, Stoke and the expulsion of IoW. Like others have said with Edinburgh & Peterborough highly doubtful for next year and question marks around Poole's future and the annual Birmingham crisis it could be a total of 15 clubs gone in 5 years under his stewardship... FIFTEEN! Even if you factor in the return of Oxford, Worky & Kent... that's still 12 a number higher than any of the current 3 leagues we have running

  11. Agree. Just got to hire out a few of those Just Stop Oil Actors and put them in #BusterOUT / #TomalinIN T-Shirts for the evening and give them specific instructions to glue themselves to the starting gate in a show of support for Michael Tomalin. That'll get a reaction out of Buster...........Just kidding

  12. I know Proctor has rode for Redcar already but i do find it daft that riders from teams in the same group are allowed to guest. Edwards could basically score Massively tomorrow night and help Scunthorpe win at Birmingham helping them get through as Group winners leaving his own team Redcar hoping they're the best runners up or even KOing them from the Competition altogether. As always only in Speedway.

  14. The crash was 100% down to what we would consider to be the poorest lap he's put in since his 125 days the 3 previous laps were very good . no fault of scunthorpe speedway or the facilities there. There's nothing to imagine so let's not stir up another campaign as there already one happening on Facebook

  15. Like what? Nobody has pulled out this year it’s 2024 where the doubts are coming from. The only ones who have “written off” the 2023 season are TTT and his Panthers mates and that’s simply because of their crap start to the season!

  16. so as it stands 5 prem teams left still standing and likely only 8 sides from the championship 13, so would leave 2 leagues as currently with 6 sides if say Oxford went up and 7 sides in the prem I think now is the time to completely gut British speedway and focus on the development of British and Commonwealth riders. British League North Belle Vue Sheffield Berwick Glasgow Redcar Scunthorpe Workington?? British League South Ipswich Kings Lynn Oxford Plymouth Poole Birmingham Leicester Run from May - September Home & Away twice in the league declaring Northern & Southern Champions Those clubs then compete Home and Away for British champion status An Open British League cup between all sides Introduce a British Grand Prix series to replace the current one-off final and any ££££ put that into this series as prize money, gives youngsters something to aim for coming through the sport, and rewards the riders not quite good enough to earn big money in Poland The odd rider here or there who comes through with something special about them, they get waved off to the polish top flight not to be seen again

  21. You’re such a bloody drama queen you have to be one of the biggest glass half empty whinges on here you absolutely reek of negativity! You were trying to tell everyone yesterday that THIS season was basically over because of the news from Wolves and that everyone should now basically shut up shop. LOL what an absolute load of b0llocks. Sorry to disappoint you, but there’s an awful lot of people out there who are still very much enjoying their speedway and will continue to look forward to their speedway fix this season. Nobody was pleased to hear the news coming out of Wolves yesterday and of course it’s a big concern going forward as is the uncertainty from Peterborough and one or two others. But supporters can’t control what happens in 2024 so why should we all just join you in wallowing in complete misery? From what’s been said since, the white flag hasn’t been waved at Wolves in any case and the fight now commences. Have you joined in and signed the online petition to keep Wolves in operation? Let me guess, it’s not worth it because it’ll make no difference as you’ve already decided Wolves are now dead and buried. Am I right? There will be British Speedway in 2024, guaranteed.

  25. Well MT has the land and is committed to make the Panthers a title chasing team. He has the land, he has the money. There is no excuse at the end of the season for him not to buy the club for next to nothing and complete his plan for you. I genuinely hope he does for speedways sake. But I wouldn’t hold your breath.

  26. Buster has all the power. Just have a sneaky feeling MT thinks he can see out the Showground and take over after as the club will effectively be extinct. The issue is, Buster, through spite, will hang on to the rights for Peterborough & run a National League team at King's Lynn, just to keep his promotional rights active. Tomlin will have to pay money, that's the be all & end all of this situation.

  27. If only Roynon could pull them off.

  28. Maybe the best hope is that Mr Tomalin has decided that at present, the only sensible thing to do is to go "under the radar" and just let Mr Chapman's control of the club run to its conclusion, which may turn out to be not too pleasant. If he puts money in to pay for "expensive" riders, would it now really make that much difference, especially if that meets with resistance from Mr Chapman who is clearly averse to spending and could just block anything? Mr Chapman has already laid down a clear marker of who is on charge with the outcome of "Holdergate". So what can Mr Tomalin now do, in the short-term? Not very much, I guess. Your hope has to be that he's now focussing on the longer term but has to keep his cards in his hand for now

  29. 99% of the problems are down to the number one berth, so far from twelve programmed rides only eight points have been scored when Pedersen would have been good for 30+. Other parts of the team are being exposed as a result and can't take the extra load. Get the number one sorted and it'll be a completely different side.

  30. Ben cook is certainly not the issue, the reserves I’m happy enough with, #1 and the engine room is the glaring issue
    2 points
  31. The top 5 is to blame for that though. Ben got a typical reserve score so def is not the problem.

  32. Good comments, I think both Hume and Rew will be very good riders in time - they show real potential - can't comment on Thompson as I have only seen him ride once in last weeks home defeat so it would unfair to make judgement based on one meeting. Rew did seem to duck out of a couple of first bend challenges last week but perfectly understandable in my view given how new he is in the UK etc. Hume can certainly throw out the odd brilliant ride - he also looks much better on the bike - early on last year he looked shaky and wobbly on the bends at Foxhall buts seems to have ironed that out now. If both can get consistent they will be real assets to the side.

  34. I remember well when Ole Olsen rode for Coventry (I know, I'm getting old !!). He got booed everywhere and by everyone. He was being interviewed on the centre green after a meeting at Wolverhampton. He was obviously amused by the booing and announced to the fans, "You do know that the louder you boo, the faster I go". Not a bad "put down" I thought.

  36. What gets me the 2023 season has only just got underway and we seem to have written off 2023 season- can’t go through the next 6 months like this British speedway needs to get its act together ASAP or more clubs will go by the way side .

  42. At this moment in time there is no time set on how long before he returns. After a conversation with him today he is eager to know timescales but he is under no illusions that regardless of his desire to ride he won't be rushed back as at 15 his career should he have one is all in front of him

  43. It is difficult to pinpoint what is and who are to blame for the decline. Could it be riders earning expectations are too high, promoters who do not promote, a rule book that is overly complicated, the British public who want more, for their buck than fifteen minutes of racing over two plus hours for something like circa £20. Sad to seem the momentum in terms of the demise of the sport and it may not have reached its nadir yet but for it to survive drastic changes are needed to encourage more participants. Standard bikes to start with to reduce costs, a push for lower c c classes and not just the 500 cc guided missile that go around every track, yet are probably unsuitable for most race venues.. Many on here will have great ideas and some credible options and the IOW have made a start but those running the sport who put up the money for each club are not interested and it is akin to the masons in the way it is run. I guess it is a case of watch it now for as long as it lasts and hope that someone somewhere has the vision to reinvent the sport and can create interest from a wider audience. I won’t hold my breath.

  44. The 'one league' concept would have to be based on the current Championship level+ which would NOT mean a weaker product imo. Further more clubs would be allowed to race on the night that best suits their connurbation and if that means clashing with some foreign leagues/competitions so be it.

  45. There is no dount that if every track had just 5,000 (out of sometimes millions of people on their doorstep), and took circa £100,000 a match, 20 times a season, then they could pay a couple of hundred grand to the landlords per season which I am sure would be seen as something worthwhile to continue by said landlords.. The reality is that collectively the custodians have simply not been fit for purpose in putting the sport first before any self interest, and have never marketed the sport in any way shape or form professionally enough. Instead they have seen standing in a foyer of a supermarket with a table, or leaflet dropping car windscreens in car parks, as "promotion".. Yet they have spent literally tens of millions on riders over the past couple of decades in particular... And all to have what we have today... Mind boggling.. Best wishes to Wolves fans.. Who is next?

  49. Does anybody remember the bees vs exeter meeting in 1979. Coventry had to win to keep our title hopes alive. We were getting beat and needed a heat advantage in the last race. Tommy was fenced by one exeters multiple czech riders. He was put on a stretcher but ole stopped the medics taking him to the first aid room. He dusted himself down and along with mitch shirra got the result 40-38. We beat hull in the decider and won the league. Tommy was only seventeen at the time. True legend
