Charles Wright has given everything for Redcar for many years. Been on the lower end of wages despite being one of the top riders in the league. Turned down numerous approaches for much more money from other clubs. Hes now been given a once in a lifetime (especially at his age) opportunity to ride in the top league in the world and has to miss a match that ultimately means nothing for Redcar. Playoffs are confirmed and league position now means nothing. Give the guy a break!12 points

Honestly , if I can see what I've witnessed tonight , during the play offs . I dont care if we win the league or not , if I get entertained like this I'm happy11 points

Actually, I think having the likes of Tarasenko in this country is the complete opposite of the sport being “on its arse” His arrival in the Championship has opened up the race for the play offs. And I doubt he’s more expensive than, say, Schlein so not much cash needed splashed.9 points

The sport in this country is going to be a poorer place when Bomber finally retires7 points

How good would it be to see Poole lose the final to Glasgow with Tarasenko getting two maximums?!5 points
-
And that shows why Glasgow are clear favourites for the title. Tarasenko playing with Masters before waiving at him as he blasts through. World class v Aussie journeyman who is top Championship averages. Unfortunately signings like this make a mockery of the whole league, like Lambert coming in last year for BV for the PL playoffs. Not Glasgows fault, just exploiting the crap rulebook.5 points

Good meeting this. Last heat was excellent.5 points

Wow quite an opportunity for wright! I hope he does himself justice and grabs the opportunity with both hands. Nobody can have any complaints it’s been agreed Poland have Sunday priority whatever meeting is being raced why can’t people understand this.5 points

Like it or not, cracking the Ekstraliga is the holy grail of speedway. How you could deny someone the opportunity to just do that for the sake of a British second league dead rubber is beyond me. I'm a massive Redcar fan but have a high interest in Polish speedway and watch most meetings on a weekend, if he performs well he could link up with a Polish team that could change his life financially. You'd have to be insane to deny someone that chance.5 points

Yet another excellent BSN production tonight from Peterborough. They do really make you feel as if you are trackside rather than the Eurosport coverage which often has all the earthy realism of an episode TOWIE. Justice seems to be served that BSN get such a nail biting Premiership match with the final play off place hanging in the balance until the last heat.5 points

Wright has abandoned the team that owns his contract in GB and should get a 28 day ban!5 points

I don’t think Mark has inherited any of the Poole mentality, (Dummy spitters) and the fines go to the Ben fund anyway .4 points

It’s over 500 now and still on an upward trajectory. I’m told this number of objections is unusually high for planning applications in Peterborough, which isn’t a surprise given the actual difficulty of negotiating the planning portal.4 points

You cant say that on here Rusky . But your right. Look at the team since CJ jacked cleaning the bogs. It will get the usual laughing emoji's from the usual suspects no doubt4 points

Sunday is a priority race night for Poland, so he's not withholding his services. Only way he would be withholding his services is if he rode for Redcar and turned down Wroclaw! As soon as he signed a contract with Wroclaw, he has to ride in Poland on Sunday and Thursday if his Polish club wants him. Which booking he got first is irrelevant. Blame those in charge of British speedway for agreeing to this, not Wright.4 points

Nowak was scoring 7/8 at home anyway, it's not going to make huge difference there. And without going into detail everyone knows our weakness that hasn't changed. Away from home just don't know how he'll go as hasn't been amazing away in the prem. Most definitely not a done and dusted scenario4 points

What a response, can always rely on this forum for a good laugh I must apologise that I'm responsible for the sport being on it's knees in this country. Being a British rider or when the fixture was resheduled has zero relevance to the FIM calendar You know this collaborative effort between the British, Polish, Swedish, Danish orgs. which has been around for like ever. It's not all made up as you go along, as some people will have you believe!4 points

Gary Lineker , Emile Heskey , Willie Thorn Richard the 3rd - your boys took one hell of a beating!!4 points

Aye it’s shocking splashing the cash to entertain the paying public. You should get out more.3 points

Didn't look like it was on its arse in Glasgow tonight. I think anyone who came, whoever they support, was thoroughly entertained and I can't think anyone regretted spending their money at Ashfield tonight. It did go on a bit, but it didn't seem like many cared given what they saw.3 points

Seen some brilliant speedway at Glasgow this season , but tonight is just incredible3 points

Oh no..... Don't bring this up again, you'll upset the rest of the teams! Don't think anyone really knows, but Glasgow have found a cheeky loophole and made the most of it.3 points

Superb racing by Jenkins, beating Basso3 points

Might be something to do with the fact that the average age of the fans in the main stand is 1573 points

Seems to be a more re-occurring incident. Hope the fan is ok. As for the meeting so far, Tarasenko showing what a world class rider looks like in the U.K. second division. 50 metres clear of Nicholls after having one ride to get his setup worked out.3 points

Do you mind... I'm trying to forget about last night3 points

Its pretty simple. He's represnting a Polish team on their protected race day. Good luck to him.3 points
-
That's your opinion. I was stating a fact. Poland has priority on a Sunday, I don't know why this is so hard to understand. I believe Wright signed as injury cover for Wroclaw around August 10, a good three weeks before Woffinden got injured at Cardiff, so not sure where you got your info from. If Wright was to ride for Redcar on Sunday, he would be withholding his services in Poland - not the other way around.3 points
-
I agree. Only Cami Brown can screw up this really good title opportunity now.3 points
-
Kind of agree. As well as that, he hasn't helped himself with his social media outbursts and antics over the last few years. Probably time to retire before he either injures himself or someone else. Just like riders riding under the influence of booze or drugs, riding whilst suffering mental health issues shouldn't be aloud either.3 points
-
Surely this is quite simple..... Poland have priority on Sundays. Only way Charles Wright could have raced for Redcar against Glasgow on Sunday was to turn down the chance to sign for Wroclaw. Considering Redcar usually race on a Friday, why would he turn it down?3 points

Can’t see anything but a decent sized Glasgow win tonight. The inclusion of Tarasenko is a complete game changer and the change has made Tigers clear favourites for the title, regardless of whatever of the playoffs groups they are in. 52-38ish. I don’t blame Glasgow for the team change but it’s a bit ludicrous that a Polish Extraleague heat leader can come into the PL on a 5, and also the Championship on the same 5 average. I would put money on this loophole being sealed during the winter. He is a cut above just about every rider in the league and showed last night what he is capable of in the Premier league. No other rider in the Championship is at his level. The change is fair under the rules so no gripes from me, and it makes Glasgow a powerhouse of a team which should demolish every other team in the playoffs, including Poole and Oxford. Would take a monumental effort from any team to turn them over over 2 legs.3 points

If Cook is suffering from mental health issues, it is probably time for him to call it a day. Remember him suffering from them before as well. I am no fan of Cook at all but having suffered some mental health problems myself, I wouldn't wish it upon anyone. I'd imagine being on a speedway bike is the last place he should be.3 points

Just going to throw something in here - The Peterborough team improved once Buster & Rob Lyon were directly involved in team building and not anybody else ?3 points

How dull would that meeting have been had there not been the aggregate bonus point to fight for. Whilst | can take or leave the idea of the superheat. The aggregate bonus point does keep interest and excitement going in some meetings where the result on the night is already done. I think I prefer it to they win by more than 6 bonus point/away loss by less than 6 stuff of previous years3 points

I was going to go as in Newcastle anyway. If the riders cannot be bothered then neither can I.3 points

I'm sick of people like you! Why does GB bend over backwards to Poland, he is a British rider? It's because of people with your attitude the sport is on its knees in this country!!!!!!!!!!! Wasn't the Redcar v Glasgow fixture rescheduled over 4 weeks ago?3 points
-
Sick of comments like this, this forum and things like 'Speedway Friends' on FB are full of them, constantly driving negativity based on uneducated comments. If you actually sat back and understood how things like this work, maybe you'd learn a thing or two. Wroclaw signed Charles about 4 weeks ago as squad cover for the play offs. Redcar will have been well aware this scenario could happen All licensed speedway authorities adhere to the FIM international speedway calendar. Poland have priority over GB on Sundays, especially that Redcar-Glasgow is a re-arranged fixture. Simple as that! Incredible opportunity for Charles to ride in front of a full Olympic stadium on the biggest stage of the sport.3 points

am going to do this too! Peterborough could easily have said nothing doing tonight and just poodled about for a 46-44 or something but the integrity of the sport has come out well tonight! Its a real 'what if' for Peterborough really - this squad have impacted the playoffs but had they had this squad all season they could have been in them too!3 points

What a shame to end the season this way. Everything seemed to start well for us. A few wake up calls at the start but we found our stride and looked formidable. Beating teams home and away looking like we could actually finish top. Surprisingly for lions fan considering our history in the top flight. I was always against the move up but thought I should embrace it before making a strong opinion. You'll find out what I now think down below. Then the first major disappointment. Nick Morris. There's only one person to blame and that's naughty Nick himself. Can't blame the club or management for that though. Second one has to be replacing Morris with batch. Stewart said himself it was a knee jerk reaction. A certain member of leicester speedway and regular poster seems to still be standing by the move stating there was no one else out there. Well there was and it was another clanger in Craig Cook. Better than batch il give em that but surely the club knew he his head was in the wrong place. Then there's Richie Worrall replacing bomber. Bomber wasn't doing a lot wrong in at the time. Remember this was a winning team. I wasn't against this move at first but we soon realised the team balance was completely shafted along with any sort of team bonding. Worrall is great at leicester but bomber was doing enough to justify staying. I forgot to mention dropping Dan Thompson for Kemp. That didn't help matters either looking back. So looking at this season what I can say is I feel let down. I've stated this many times before. You don't fix what ain't broken! Saturday nights, winning, good crowds along with a chance at silverware was a recipe for success. I generally don't see the pull of the prem. Seriously the riders are all the same but in different kevlars. It's just a different league with only a handful of top riders. The only riders I've gone wow at this year are fricke and Emil. So someone please tell me......why did we move up? Honestly I can't think of anything that justified the move. I'm not obsessed with top riders at the club. I just want a team that's stable and gives it there all. You can see why Wolves are so loyal to there riders. They are unbeaten at Monmore and you can get a connection to certain riders . OK should probably end this rant. Plus things could be worse. I'm hopeful leicester will be OK next year. I real feel for wolves fans along with the panthers. So I will probably head to bed now thinking of what could have been rather than where did it all go wrong?3 points

I cannot see how a thread about Craig Cook can possibly help any situation he might be in, if the moderators haven't got the sense to remove the thread then the very least the forum members can do is stop posting on it.3 points

So that's the end of the faint playoff hopes at the end of what's proved yet another challenging and disappointing season for the Gladiators. A team assembled at the start of the season with so much hope and expectation that for whatever reason just never seemed to click. Yet again, injuries have played a huge part in the season along with a very poor stop/start nature to the season with how it was structured. Massive thank you to everyone who has guested for us across the year. Of course, there are some people on here who have a very strict agenda against Plymouth Speedway. One can only presume this is due to the distance you'd have to travel to see your team race (As an Argyle fan, it's never easy having to travel such long distances so I can sympathise to a point). People will always have their prejudices towards the track because it is different to anywhere else but I'm sorry, personally the joy and thrill of motorsport is that you don't race on the same track configuration every week. If we all raced on a 300m round oval then it would be boring week in, week out. Some of the racing at the Colosseum this season has been excellent. Even Tuesday night, threw the face of adversity, plenty of the crowd declared that as their favourite meeting for some while and credit needed to go to both sets of riders as everyone put it on the line. There's been some strange, peculiar bashing of the promotion as well. As someone who's had a hand in the day to day running of a recreational, successful sports club within the city, I can appreciate the tough, difficult job that Mark Phillips has. No promoter wants to lose money. No promoter wants to deliberately mislead supporters just to earn a quick bit of cash. People do need to remember at times just how difficult a job it is to be a promoter and absolutely nobody wants to call meetings off willingly just before meetings are due to start. As we are all aware, speedway as a sport is on borrowed time in the UK. There's no light at the end of the tunnel and every week there's another rumour circulating that another track is due to close for various reasons. We as supporters of the sport and of our own clubs have a duty to do what we can and the constant mudslinging and negative press that not just Mark but other promoters up and down the country receive are only going to drive people away from the sport and equally put off future investors because if they see what treatment promoters receive, why should they invest? This is a critical time for British Speedway as we move into 2024. The waters are choppy and the visibility isn't good. I for one, hope there's Championship racing at the Colosseum next season and I can't wait for the new season to begin.3 points

What a meeting, we have seen some extraordinary racing at Ashfield this season, but tonight tops the lot. It takes 2 teams to provide the excitement, so well done Oxford for making a match of it, Tarasenko, just wow , could watch him all day, shame the season is almost over.2 points
