I think that the fans, particularly of teams who are not stand alone NDL and have a team in another division, just go along to enjoy the NDL racing and hopefully see some talent that goes on to the top level later in their career.. There is hardly an open top bus ride around the town for the Premiership winners, so the NDL Champs won't be making too many back pages... If out of the lads riding this year, 10 to 15 of them all have a regular Championship team place in three to five years then the NDL then this season will have been a huge success... Rider progression to regularly have 2nd tier teams being full of UK riders is the real measure of success..3 points

Which is why winning at home is ultra important... And "top riders" are often the ones missing when teams ride away... Agreeing to a meeting date knowing your big earner will be elsewhere, and planning to bring in a cheaper track specialist, is all part of the rich tapestry of UK speedway.. And another of those many reasons you shouldn't take it too seriously..2 points

As it’s a slow work day, I decided to sit and do the maths on this. So a third of that is about £650 a point, let’s just say Artem scores 10 points then £6500 plus extras (flights, mechanics etc) comes to £7500 a meeting £7500 divided by £25 entry fee = 300 people through the gate just to pay for Artem and that’s before all other costs, the other 6 riders plus stadium hire etc. But that then got me thinking there is no entry fees when riding away so that’s another £7500 on the above assumptions so you’d need 600 people per home meeting to cover home and away costs for a number 1. Now I have no idea how accurate the above figure is, nor am I saying anything against the riders as they have big expenses but it just made me realise how difficult it really is for these promoters.2 points

Out of all the teams in the Championship, the Workington one interests me the most. Not only a female rider but a few unknown quantities and I think they will be entertaining to watch and could spring a few surprises. If Cookie and Batch can both get into the mindset where they are determined to prove the doubters wrong and ride to their full capabilities then who knows how far the team can go. I wish the promotion well and for "thinking outside the box" and it's certainly a team which has got people talking. Good luck!2 points

Been saying the same myself before Christmas when the promotion were saying about buying season tickets for a Christmas gift1 point

That’s definitely the strongest order!! If they put Iversen at 2 then we’ll look extremely strong in heats 1, 6, 8 & 10 but we’ll look pretty weak in heats 3, 5, 9, 12 & 14…. whereas having Iversen at 3 or 4 with Basso and MPT/Wojdylo at 2 it makes the team evenly strong throughout all heats!1 point

At the conclusion of the final round, Poole's Ben Cook was awarded the 'Most Improved Rider of the Year' trophy, based on his results from both his Overseas and his domestic meetings.1 point

It is a fantastic track, and I agree there will be very little home track advantage, any rider worth there salt will be at home there right away.1 point

Two guests to start the season then. Maybe we should start guessing who they will be. I'll go for Bomber to guest as one and bomber for the other.1 point

I personally think we need a steadying influence in the team who is a solid scorer. I was a long time Barrow supporter and know only too well that speedway fans are fickle and wont support a losing team particularly at home, hence the reason I have a 90 mile round trip to see my adopted team Workington. I really hope it all works out. Workington - Barrow derby's happy days.1 point

Since when did will to win become a taboo ?? and I’d say the supporters are the ones that count not the participants1 point

Laguta earns £2,000 per point for Wroclaw. He would be prepared to join Birmingham for 30% of that. How much lower can he go?1 point

I'd say the riding order almost picks itself....MPT/Wojdylo at 2, Tarasenko at 5 and Basso/Iversen either way round at 3&4.1 point

It's a bit more nuanced than that. It wasn't Kent that ran the NORA meeting, but Iwade ( who continued to run NORA meetings including one in which an SCB board member took part!) If the SCB were evenhanded they would also have threatened Kings Lynn ( who allow Dirst Track Events to run NORA Events on the track) and Scunthorpe ( who allow flat track Events not under SCB licence on the track). Using the case law they are relying on then SCB would be as liable to have a duty of care for those Events. But it is clear that the SCB was selective in the action they took.1 point

Not sure what you're asking here my comment was in answer to the joint Sheffield scunthorpe team winning the league . And never said riders getting beat every week would be better . I said if my rider is better at the end of the year than the beginning I'm not to bothered on who wins the league1 point

Taffy is indeed retiring and will close his doors around Easter. As for the speedway his voluntary contribution shouldn't be underestimated, especially in the early days after the sport returned to Shielfield and while under the Peter Waite promotion.1 point

Simon Lambert after Buster throws his mid-season tantrum about finances/low crowds once the results turn sour. For what it's worth if the team does stay the same then Basso will end up at No.6 imo.1 point
