  4. Well done to Oxford and a special well done to Luke Killeen who had the meeting of his career. Only dropped one point all night and was the real match winner. In comparison the Poole reserves failed to score other than the point gifted. The writing was on the wall last week with a poor performance at Scunthorpe which showed our current vulnerabilities. We are carrying three riders and to expect the remaining 4 to be on peak form to salvage results is a step too far. With Oxford the one team to have two heat leaders capable of beating our top boys, it didn’t take much extra for the result to swing in Oxfords favour. The rain had made the track heavy for the first few heats but once settled down Oxford were far quicker out of the starts. Killeen, who has improved quite rapidly this season revelled in the conditions. We had nothing to offer at reserve with Thomsen a shadow of the rider he had been earlier this season before his falls. It looks like he has come back far too early and has lost confidence. Hook was next to useless, his only point in a three rider race. Hagon was poor again and all those exciting races are a thing of the past currently and his u21 championship a distant memory. Interesting that his form dipped when he joined Leicester. Cook was a shining beacon and would have had a paid 18 max but for a rerun, which gave=ve Masters a second bite of the cherry. Lawson didn’t have a great night and was beaten fair and square in some tough racing. And Brennan although riding well looks to be riding every day. Sunday Poland, Monday Brum, Tuesday Sweden, Wednesday Poole, Thursday Brum, Friday Cardiff practice, Saturday Cardiff, Sunday Poland and repeat… Don’t think this was a wake up call. I think we are quite weak at the moment with no reserve and number two punch lacking to challenge. it is what it is. Well done Oxford.

  5. I can't believe all these people slagging Cardiff off and not attending. It's the biggest showpiece event in our sport (or at least it used to be) and all many can do on here is moan about everything to do with it... well I hope you're all happy it seems you've got what you all wanted! You'll be moaning about ticket prices at Belle Vue next year, complaining you've got soaked to the skin in the rain and complaining that there's nothing to do around the stadium. £23 for a world class event in a state of the art stadium... with a roof! And all you can do is moan because you've lost your sense of adventure for 1 day of your life and need a comfy bed for a night instead of driving there and back in one go or staying somewhere away from Cardiff... you ought to be ashamed of yourselves! Remember where it was before Cardiff? Hackney, Bradford, Coventry... you don't know what you've had until it's gone. Well done everybody that stopped going!

  6. So it is Bomber and Anders tomorrow in the Pairs . As for the argument against Anders , did Craig Watson not make his Tigers debut in the Pairs at Somerset a few years back ? I dont buy into this he must have ridden so many matches nonsense , if he's a signed rider then he can ride .

  9. Oxford did well - no excuses - Killeen was outstanding Form comes and goes - hope we can peak again at the right time In other news Sam Hagon is a class act - my grandchildren over from Qatar to avoid the extreme heat came to speedway for the first time - they did drawings etc to get signed in the pits - despite his dip in form Sam signed everything and they are now hooked on Speedway !

  10. It continues to amaze me how so many people living in places anything up to 100 or so miles from Perry Barr, seem to have such intimate knowledge of all the background information of how Birmingham Speedway is run and of the merits of the members of the promotion, so perhaps a few genuine facts might be useful to them: Senior Birmingham management have keys to Perry Barr Stadium, and access to the site can be obtained at any time - but access to the speedway track is a different matter. The stadium's major greyhound meeting is staged on Saturday nights so no work relative to the speedway operation can be conducted until Sunday mornings, and even then, the tenancy agreement insists that heavy equipment cannot be taken across the dog track until it has been covered, so this time consuming job has to be done first. When the weather has been as dry and hot as has been the case these last few weeks, watering of the speedway track commences on Sundays and continues throughout the day, and then re-commences on Monday mornings. The suggestion that last Monday "that the track was dusty from heat one" made by someone who was not at the meeting, is absolute nonsense. Regrading and re-watering of the track is usually conducted after heats 4, 8 and 12 as is the case at most other tracks. On this last Monday, the first re-grade was delayed due to the first heat being restarted twice, heat three being similarly re-started, and a further delay when a rider was excluded for failing to make the two minutes deadline and some confusion when he wasn't aware that he had been excluded. The situation with Pawlicki's absence has been well documented, and I imagine that pretty well all of us share the same opinion about this, but having now completed 75% of their fixtures, Birmingham are not now able to replace him with a new signing - but I have it on good authority that no Birmingham rider is on any kind of guarantee as seems to be widely imagined, and the clown who keeps flogging the notion that Birmingham should have signed Artem Laguta, must know as we all do, that Laguta is not interested in riding for a British Club. Where the poster who criticises Sam Ermolenko gets his information from, I do not know. Lampart was nominated for his Rider-Replacement ride in heat 3, but after a first bend collision his machine required adjustment and he subsequently failed to make the two minute warning and was excluded. His exclusion does not allow him to take another rider-replacement ride, which is fair enough. This might or might not have cost the Brummies the match, but it can hardly be the fault of the team manager! Birmingham's difficulties in assembling a more competitive team have been well documented since the start of the season, as have been the difficulties in persuading foreign riders to join the club. The signings of Milik and of Pawlicki have not been as successful as was hoped, and Freddie Lindgren, although still a very good rider, is taking a little time to re-adjust to racing on British tracks after his lengthy absence, so in my opinion, the Team Manager continues to have rather limited options in his job, and doesn't deserve the constant criticism he receives. Fair comment and opinions are always welcome on this site, but it seems to me that there are too many posters from distant parts who are making up their own opinions based on heresay or guesswork, and others who just can't seem to wait for their chance to put the boot in against a club and it's enthusiastic management, which is battling for its survival under difficult circumstances not all of which are of their own making.

  15. Canny beat a bit of accuracy , and it was spot on . Decent enough meeting , Pickering was brilliant , had support from Thomson but that was it . For us wee James was the stand out performer . Will 10 points be enough for the bonus point , dont think it really matters now , always good to beat the Monarchs though .

  16. Did Poole have the customary lengthy delay whilst behind at home to try and doctor the track?

  17. Sometimes Poole fans amaze me, you praise your team all year, naturally as you keep winning, but you have ONE bad match & it's like you've given up already! I know not all Poole fans are the same before everyone tells me lol!

  19. To correct you, I am the track curator in question, I went as a spectator, just to watch the meeting, I arrived about 5pm straight from work with no intention of doing anything, the track was being watered at that time, nearer to start time it was clearly drying out fast, it was also clear it would need watering during the meeting, you can not put water on a slick part of the track as it makes it like ice, as john was on his own I offered to help if needed, I graded after ht4, ht,7 ht11, so I find your accusation that I had an influence on the out come of the meeting offensive. I was told the track had been constantly been watered from Sunday, and all throughout Monday, I would also add many track curators know each other and it's not unusual for them to help each other out from time to time.

  26. Did the track offer up better racing and more overtaking than the usual 1 for 2 passes. Definitely think Poole like to prep the track a certain way to which there own riders are dialled into, which of course is there perogative and certainly works for them.

  30. Poole fans are so so fickle it’s laughable You have Sam Hagon signed on a 2.56 as a reserve and Thomsen on a 4….. both are averaging more and the reason you have done well is these 2 have over performed and Ben Cook has progressed in this league to a number 1 almost Hagon and Thomsen have dipped slightly and it’s all doom and gloom as if you expect these guys to score 6 and 7 each meeting Lawson getting 7 and Brennan being beat by Killeen didn’t help but seems these 2 are exempt from criticism … much easier to aim the flack and Hagon and Thomsen

  31. Simple. Because it's utter garbage and has been since day 1. Awful racing, cost is ridiculous, nothing to do in a filthy dump of a city. Sooner they stick the contract in the shredder the better.

  33. So let's reset after last night. Well done to a determined Oxford team who clearly weren't fazed by the track or the opposition on the night. There were some fast race times by both teams. Congrats to Killeen and Ben Cook, clearly the best 2 riders on show. My only criticism of captain Cook was him choosing the wrong gates in heat 1 (its an ongoing niggle of mine). Others have already stated the problem areas but those riders just need to get fitter and get going again as there aren't any options. Hopefully the result will give them the necessary 'kick up the posteriors'! Moving on........

  34. Oxford had 7 of their first 7 heat wins coming from different riders which i found remarkable. odds on that before the meeting?
    1 point
  35. Depends what you want to measure - green sheets are problematic - as they include different things for each rider. For example 80% of Scott Nicholls' GSA is matches from 2022 with Peterborough. Most of Doyle's is from last season. For this season only Jason and Emil are still 1 & 2 on most measures. (The exception is league matches only exc bonus points where Kurtz shades Emil 9.09 to 9.01). Stats as at 14 Aug.

  42. I have attended 32 meetings in the UK so far this season. The racing has been mixed as you would expect. One thing I have noticed is the amount of meetings that start later than advertised. Often it appears for no reason. As someone who attends meeting on public transport this is an important factor to me. However whenever I attend a Leicester meeting, 3 times so far, 2 x Lions and a Cubs meeting they start on time. That is the first race at the publicised start time, the parade, minutes applause etc. happens before this. I don't know who is responsible for the timing, but they should be congratulated for their professionalism & doing a good job.
