13 & 15 away might be tough but I’m not convinced we’ll be conceding 5-1’s at home every week in those heats. Last time Cook guested for us (versus Sheffield) he beat Jack & Chris Holder, including winning heat 15. Kvech also claimed some good scalps at home. In terms of line-up, I think I’d be looking at pairings of Cook & Lawson, Klindt & Iversen with Kvech at 5 but with option to move riders about, especially away.6 points

Cook guested for us at Oxford last season and got a pretty solid 9 points from 6 rides riding at No 5. But that is the risk with 6-7 point riders. By the very nature of their average, they can be inconsistent, especially away. I don’t think there is a Stars fan I know who is getting overly excited and sensing silverware, but we now have a solid side, full of riders that either have good connections to the club or are popular with fans in their own right (like Harris). The club has a rebuilding job to do and it won’t happen overnight, but from personally speaking to Rob he’s keen to get the club more competitive than we have been. Last season, despite all the troubles, we won more matches than both the 2022 & 2023 seasons combined. Though that is sadly probably more a reflection of how poor those sides were. But they’ve looked at the issues from last season and done the best to mitigate those for 2025. Ok, it’s not a side built on big names but it’s one I’m certainly looking forward to watching. Judging by the reaction on social media etc, I think the vast majority of Stars fans think the same. Roll on March.5 points

Delighted with the Borke signing. IMO Berwick needs to move on and away from Jye Etheridge and Etheridge from Berwick for the good of club and rider.4 points

Yeah, Batch put in a big performance at Redcar in the meeting Cookie went missing to give us a shot at the bonus which we couldn't quite achieve as it subsequently turned out. Then followed that up with another big performance at Berwick in the win that really cemented the playoffs 👍3 points

The GP series now using all the F1 sayings like P1, LCP1, Q1, FP1 gets right on my wick, I’ve got one for them FO3 points

I would say there are a few clubs with similar ambition and similar financial backing The league is starting to rebuild a strength that a top league should be at The question now is whether that can be matched with the necessary integrity, and leveraged to gain a greater following and attract outside backing in order to continue the virtuous circle.....3 points

He scored more in 1 meeting guesting at Glasgow than in most of the league season for Berwick, maybe the track suits his style better. He doesn't look the sharpest gater and passing easier at ashfield than shielfield. Can't go on about loyalty here when advertising riders getting dumped on the Poole and Plymouth threads.2 points

Dropping a 2 pointer is not showing loyalty though is it . The same loyalty that you keep saying Hodder should show.2 points

That was also 8 years ago, riders improve/decline over time, experience and age have a lot to do with it. Statistics from as long ago as that are absolutely meaningless imo, you could also pull up his stats from 2022 where he finished the season with a 6.29 average and say he’s great value at 4.98. It’s just cherry picking stats to suit your agenda, I absolutely agree it’s time to move on for both parties but it’s a very odd way to frame it using his pre Berwick stats from nearly a decade ago.2 points

not if the lions team is as suggested with howarth for lawson top three likely to be bv ippo & sheff with their big heat leaders but 4th up for grabs2 points

Pretty well summed up tbh can’t see much changing next season tbh all the other riders in that team are not going to get any better than what they are atm, think they will be battling with Oxford for 5th.2 points

Won’t Leicester’s lineup be more obvious than everyone thinks?… Fricke Howarth Masters Becker Douglas C.Cook Hagon2 points

Or you could have the leader cleared off in the distance with a great scrap for 2nd being pointless, 4th place giving up early. Just seems to be a change made in the hope that Zmarzlik might miss a few finals to give a closer title race.2 points

Quite agree, the top six are going to be strong at home and apart from Doyle & Emil who stand out I don't think we need to worry about heats 13 & 15 as much as some people think. As you say we saw some strong performances last season especially towards the end. Away from home might be different but we shall see2 points

Which is what surprises me. Tries a lot harder when racing for Belle Vue etc than he does for Berwick (seems to race for the four laps when with them but doesn't when with Berwick). Supposed to be the home track specialist who was 6th in the Berwick home averages this season.2 points

Thank heavens someone with a brain has posted something worth looking at on the Brummies page{especially being a Wolves follower😁).Any chance of keeping the PaulDovey cabbage quiet until next season🙄2 points

Starke averaged 3.15 for Glasgow at the #2 position this season. That's why he was dropped. It wasn't a false average - he was awful, and his equipment sucked. If I were Poole, I wouldn't touch him.2 points

Ladrokes have suspended betting on Etheridge being back at Berwick.2 points

Something like this, replacing Bailey with someone else if he isn't riding maybe? Wright 8.37 Flint 6.68 Edwards 6.18 Vuolas 6.40 Bailey 4.97 Mulford 4.27 Trigger 3.00 39.872 points

The top 3 look nailed on barring disasters It'll be a good scrap between Leicester, Lynn and Oxford for 4th, any one of them could get it but if Oxford do get Musielak it should be them1 point

I get we both think he should move on I just don’t understand why his pre Berwick form and him not being a world beater as you say in 2016 is relevant to 2024 or 2025? That is the part that confuses me. Steve Worrall averaged 3.00 in 2013 and was dropped by both Newcastle and Redcar but it’s completely irrelevant now isn’t it? I would be moving on because he was poor in 2024 not because of the rider he was when he first arrived in this country.1 point

🤣🤣 not even close Home 2024: Bewley 9.24 Kurtz 9.73 = 18.97 Sayfutdinov 8.94 Doyle 10.55 = 19.49 Away 2024: Bewley 8.14 Kurtz 8.39 = 16.53 Sayfutdinov 8.47 Doyle 9.05 = 17.52 Ipswich +1.511 point

As it stands without injuries, I can’t see Lions or Tigers making top 4… with the rumoured teams I think the top 4 will be Witches, Aces, Stars, Spires1 point

But if they new foreigner is of the Patrik Baek, Matic Ivacic or Celina Liebmann ilk then Etheridge would be better. If you find another Tate Zischke or Antti Vuolas then it's a play-off looking team.1 point

Having already signed for Oxford I`m guessing Glasgow might find a hurdle or two to jump if they want him.1 point

It's a decent side but like you said when you compare it to other teams rumoured 1-7's then it doesn't look that good. Lawson scored 8 or more points (Excluding Bonus Points) in 9 out of 15 Home meetings for Leicester this season so Howarth has got big shoes to fill. Still no real solid backup for Fricke as well which is a worry, The Lions need the real Luke Becker to turn up next season.1 point

If they can get an assessed 8 average rider at number 1 with those other 6 then I think that’s quite a decent side1 point

From where I stand, actually by a very large amount. Where do people get the figure of 500 from? It sounds like one of these mantras which people trot out, without actually knowing anything.1 point

I think some people are too harsh on Simon Lambert. Looking at his final averages since covid. 2024: 5.98 2023: 6.02 2022: 5.33 2021: 5.82 He's a solid 5 to 6 point rider. Not everyone can make it to be a top Champ rider.1 point

Answering the original question..... Extremely disappointing. No news at all about the reopening of Swindon,Coventry, Wolverhampton, Arena Essex(Lakeside), Rye House. No news on wheher Eastbourne will be allowed to race at Iwade. Pretty much a year of the "status quo" with some statistical attendance gains around the online audiences. I guess in British Speedway terms that is a success rather than another club closing. Maybe that's the way forward, like the dog tracks that just run meetings for the online audiences ? The gimmick of Poole entering the premiership kockup will be a laugh, especially if, with their cherry picked gusts, they make it to the next rounds. Their "select" team will challenge the rule book on "cup tied" riders. The thought of "Poole" riders racing for the opposition in the kockup might lead to a conflict of interests. If Matt has a big enough chequebook he could win the kockup at the first attempt ?1 point

I've got a good idea. After the 20 heats, all 16 riders qualify for the quarter finals, the winner of each race goes through to the final. That way, the rider who finishes last after 20 heats can still have a chance of winning the Grand Prix. Sounds fair to me. i was thinking of suggesting this to the powers that be, but decided against it as they will probably adopt it.1 point
