  1. im just glad someone is making an effort to keep speedway running in that area, its ok for us doom mongers to call it out but people there looked to enjoy it. hot weather and it didn't become a dust bowl.

  2. Then having to tell them that one of your Teams riders scored a maximum against one of your biggest rivals to help them to an away match in the League.

  3. Speedway is dying especially in the championship, the crowds are poor. Scunthorpe crowd on Friday against Workington can not have been any more than 400 and even the crowd at Workington on Saturday was not what it should have been with lovely weather but I think tha't down to Workington running on a Saturday afternoon. Workington are forced to ride on a Saturday afternoon really as the Friday teams have that blocked off and Sundays goes up against the rugby team in Workington so that a no go. They do not have floodlights but I certainly think they should look at a 6pm start as they would not need floodlights and could give people the chance to attend who work Saturdays or familys that have things on during the day. The football has finished for Workington Reds but they have been getting crows over 1000 this past season and they had a poor year on the pitch they ended up averaging 760 for the season. You look at crowds on the TV at other tracks and you do think how are they making this pay. Speedway needs to do something as the fixtures are so spread out fans find other things to do, Workington don't ride for two weeks now would have been longer if they had not put the Edinburgh meting on 24th May.

  4. From memory last year GLA during the season had 2 three week breaks and only rode four home meetings in June and July. There are enough dates but perhaps not the will to push the Friday clubs to alternate days. If riders got more meetings in the Championship they may not need to seek racing abroad which is often where the rider availability problems come from IMO. I accept having fewer meetings lowers the cumulative losses of some clubs but with reports of tiny crowds at some recent meetings perhaps the losses at certain tracks could now be higher than if they ran 2H/2A. After three seasons of more blank weeks than fixtures the customers have spoken and probably lost interest and/or found something else to do. They will only take so much of being taken for granted.

  5. Definitely photoshopped...... Crowd far too numerous

  6. Common sense says so, but the promotors seem to be happy with the status quo or the riders are holding a gun to there heads. Either way speedway is dying a slow death in this country. There is a combine total of 16 teams. The fans deserve to see all those teams at their local track, not Edinburgh six times a year! If the riders can't make it pay, then they should go and do what most riders did in 70s/80s get a job. Speedway gets far lower attendances than non league football. The lowest attendance team in the Vanarama National League this season was Braintree Town FC, average 1.147 per match. The top team in that league was Southend United FC average 7.339 per match!! I know football is a different sport, but this is semi pro football we're talking about. Who is the best attended team in speedway? Maybe Poole. They might match the lowest clubs attendance, but are miles behind the top team in that league. Yet the riders expect full time professional wages! It's crazy they either become semi pro or the sport will give them no choice but to.

  8. Well, if sacking your temporary number seven and replacing him with another temporary number seven isn’t the sign of a club sh*tting themselves, then I don’t know what is.😂

  11. No even if as alleged Batch wasn't trying 13 others were and for me that's where the focus should be. I don't need anyone to speak for me especially someone as negative as you are. Was a decent nights racing with some good heats and for me the score doses not reflect the meeting. Always thought Scunthorpe would be the winners as we are strong at home

  12. The same Kerr that rode in the semi-final, even going as far as making sure he qualified through the run-off. And the one that is in this week's Speedway Star speaking about how he believes he's capable of winning on his day. Common sense tells you that it's obviously another reason.

  13. If speedway was transparent we would know.

  14. As I have been saying for some time, riders today can turn up and if they are not bothered, that’s it, heat leaders like Batch are probably on a guarantee equivalent to 7 or 8 points anyway. And promoters wonder why they lose money!

  15. Disgusting that Lawson and Kerr not doing the British final All those years certain Poole fans complaining about Tai not doing it but now it’s Poole riders it’s fine Crap excuse that they can’t win it … my first one was 1990 and only Tatum Wigg Doncaster maybe Cross could win it … never stopped the others racing

  17. The long range weather forecast suggests that we could have a dry summer and possible drought. How will that be dealt with? If the club want to contact me I have solution which would also eliminate queues at the toilets!

  19. Necessary evil... There is no alternative... Guest have been around for years... Etc, Etc, Etc ... There is a very fundamental reason why no mainstream coverage, large companies, and plenty of fans themselves, don't take Speedway (in the UK), too seriously... Your example of what happens regularly (virtually every week), is the clear reason.. Colluding with the promoters it actually means something is a prerequisite for fans who do want to take it seriously and pretend...

  20. I would be more worried about what is happening at Plymouth, your number 1 not exactly pulling trees up, so trot on back to your Plymouth thread

  21. From what I remember, no when it was the one big league, but in the split divisions, they were strong. Having said that, I think they only lasted one season - 1997 - before going out of business. Carl Stonehewer and Martin Dixon were there key riders, if I recall correctly.

  23. So Poole have sacked matt marson already so much for having no pressure or expectation on him. Who's next?

  24. I'm a bit pissed off with the bad press Mark gets. He almost single handedly keeps Plymouth going. I know he's a bit marmite but personally I have a lot of time for the guy.

  25. Thats the bit no one in authority seems to grasp but will act surprised when clubs go to the wall or switch to NDL only. I suspect if the Championship went down to 5 or 6 teams they'd still cling to 1H/1A whatever the cost.

  27. Boews is not the problem he's on a 5 point average, seeing tracks for the 1st time, and will be an asset of the club after X number of meetings, yes the attitude of batch is a big problem, but and it's a big but, who on a 8.5 average is available to replace him, palm tree not the answer, a lot of comets fans can remember he once signed for the comets, only to walk away for a better deal at Peterborough, sitting travel issues were the problem.. got to get behind the club and support them through this sticky patch, if no support through the turnstile no comets going forward. 28. Off the top of my head, we had to endure a 15 minutes wait between heats 3 and 4, then a 32 - yes, 32 - minutes wait between heats 12 and 13. I actually thought BSN did their best to plug those ridiculous gaps. An utterly dreadful advert for speedway, that circuit. No wonder Plymouth can’t find a main sponsor. Who wants associated with that?

  29. If 8 clubs wanted 2H/2A then that's what they would have voted for. I can't believe they'd stick to 1H/1A just to keep Oxford trebling up. More likely the Friday clubs Edinburgh, Glasgow, Redcar & Scunthorpe want to race 99% of their home fixtures on a Friday, 2H/2A would mean more chance of having to race on an off race night.

  34. A nice complimentary post. The Lions management should be grateful for such comments. I should add that any Lynn supporters attending on Thursday will be searched upon leaving the track to make sure that you are not taking any points back to Norfolk!

  39. The Comets fans just need to stick with the team espesially at this early stage of the season. They have built an unbelivable speedway stadium at Northside that deserves to have more fans watching. The team seem low on confidance with gating the number ine issue. Where are all the fans from the Derwent Park days ? This set up is miles better than Derwent Park but the crowds are no where near what they should be. Is it the start time for racing ? Speedway at Derwent PArk was always at 7pm now I realise Northside do not have any floodlights but do they need any if say they started at 6pm ? This could be something to try see if more fans attend who don't in the afternoon's.

  40. I'm not sure it is personally...certainly not like when TNT/Eurosport/Sky are in town. I just think that certain promotions make zero effort to make any time up if/when incidents happen, whether that be air fence deflations or extended track grading. Yes it was a 7pm parade on a Saturday night with what looked like loads of kids in (judging by the "track invasion") but there was a match to get on.

  41. 100% agree. I know he's only 18, but still very petulant. I would imagine putting his steel shoe on is down to him or is he such a star he get's someone else to do it!!!

  43. What an awful track. It's like most clubs mini track. Gate and go. Whoever is past the first bend wins.

  44. Jesus Christ! The ref stops the race because of a steel shoe on the track... yet there's a huge hole on the apex of the top bend and everybody's okay about it!

  45. Retaining batch can be the wrong decision but that doesnt mean dropping cookie was wrong also. The antics cookie pulled last season were out of order and not acceptable. Letting your team know you aren't turning up 20 minutes prior to a meeting starting isn't acceptable. Not being contactable through the whole of winter whilst you're supposed to be preparing for the new season is not acceptable. It's clear batch isn't a no.1 and his spitting the dummy attitude isn't acceptable but cookie can be just as bad. You can only go off what you know and the promotion knew that batch attended every meeting without fail.

  47. Personally, I don’t see why not. He has a long history of the same (couldn’t care less about the fans) attitude and has been getting away with it for years. Good on the club I say for telling it as it is…….it’s long overdue. He was a good rider back in the day but his attitude was always in question. These days he thinks he is a cut above the rest and can behave how he likes. He’d be as well sticking two fingers up to the people who support speedway and pay his wages.

  49. Very sad news from yesterdays British Superports race at Oulton. an eleven rider pile up after the first bend sadly claimed the life of Owen Jenner and Shane Richardson. I believe seven of the riders involved in the pile up were injured with Tunstall picking up serious injuries. Best wishes to Tom for a full recovery and RIP Owen and Shane. As. You can imagine the meeting was abandoned. The risks these guys take to entertain us deserves more than just a few lines on a forum, but thanks to all riders for the entertainment you provide us with. thoughts are with Owen and Shane’s families. Rest in Peace guys and thank you .
