  3. Every time the camera pans the crowd I cringe. People with more pin badges than real teeth, 80s/90s dance music at the tapes, dreadful working mens club banter on the centre green and people who go on about bring back upright engines, monkey masks, open helmets, rediffusion, polio, smog...

  5. It's a shame Sudden Sam never came across on tv like he just did there, I've listened to him on a few podcasts also and he's quite an engaging character, never translated to comms unfortunately

  6. It’s strange whenever safety is brought up like it was in the speedway star the last few weeks, the machinery never gets put under the microscope , a few ex riders have spoken about the tubeless tyres but the train keeps a rollin because the sport is run by the riders for the riders, you only have to listen to the woffy interview about protection under the suits and boots, because nobody reigns them in and when you let children have a free for all in a sweet shop they are going to rot their teeth

  7. Basically thas what they did through the 60's.and 70"s. Go on Wikipedia and search out speedway world championships. It's interesting to how the development of the eastern block countries developed ie USSR with Plechanov and Samaradov, and Poland with Wyglenda and Woryna, Germany with Josef Hofmeister, with an occasional East German and Czechoslovakian.

  8. I personally don't think it's confusing at all, every heat counts is a simple explanation. I think it's less confusing than when 5 riders tied on 6 points, one of them is guaranteed to finish 4 points better off than another! I just don't understand a single justification for doing this? What does it achieve? If they are desperate for the winner to receive the most points, make the final 20-18-17-16, everyone else takes home their score after 20 heats. I think that's much easier to understand.

  9. Thought Tolley's interview was pretty embarrassing, blaming the track & seems oblivious to the fact his team isn't good enough. When he said they couldn't water the track the previous day due to work on the start line (transponder cable) couldn't they have still watered the bends, back straight & part of the home straight. The MJJ replacement who will give 110%, doesn't excite me. Can only see it weakening Birmingham even further. Really feel for Brummies fans & hope Tolley doesn't bankrupt himself by seeing out the season.

  12. Won't happen. Too far gone to be saved... No wider vision at all from those who run it.. They will, literally, pay millions collectively to riders who put hardly one extra bum cheek on a seat... Yet, Jack "Barry White" to a professional marketing company who could give these riders some profile, notice and resonance.. Imagine Barry Hearn with Dan Bewley? He would have him all over the place... Well meaning amateurs pretending they are professionals.. They have zero skill set for what they do...

  16. A what point does the finger need to stop being pointed at riders though?? There is a running theme at King's Lynn of struggling to hang on to rider's throughout a season. It's happening season in, season out. The running of British Speedway overall is appalling also. Because of the tight restrictions on team building, rider's can't build any loyalty to clubs so they're not given the opportunity to care.

  17. I was around in the days of Ivan Mauger, and regularly watched Tony Rik and I consider Zmarzlik the greatest speedway rider in history already. Impossible to catch if he gates and brilliant to watch come through the field when he doesn't. Initially I though it was a massive shame that Laguta was unable to defend his title, but all Laguta is is fast. He's just Vaculik with better equipment, this year he wouldn't see which way Bartek went. But what I like most about Bartek is that he has no ego whatsoever, he just loves what he does and that's a rare trait.

  18. Ben Cook returned from his wrist injury which has kept him on the sidelines for 2 months on Sunday 15th June for his Polish Metalkas 2 Ekstraliga club Leszno scoring 12 points from his 5 rides, however immediately after the fixture Mr Cook complained of further wrist pain and was examined by his club’s medical staff. Mr Cook is to receive further intensive rehabilitation in order to identify the problem and has been medically withdrawn from any further racing for a further 7 days. The Speedway Control Bureau have received a medical certificate for Mr Cook ruling him out for a further 7 days as from the 15th June 2025. Mr Cook’s Premiership Club Kings Lynn will be granted a facility for his absence during this period.

  19. To be fair I've been to some other motorsports that aren't too far removed, but no sport body is quite as wilfully blind to it as the BSPA. Now if you don't mind I'm off to the track shop to get a new, laminated, no expense spent team picture. The out of date one with the riders who've been sacked or buggered off to Poland. 😁

  20. Last week, at Leicester, the camera panned on the second bend, garden chair fans, for about 20 seconds... I had to look twice to check it wasn't the Ianb Photoshop of his pensioners facing the opposite way from the track... I presume those pensioners, (quite rightly), pay extra extra for that at Leicester....

  21. I am with you my friend... "Rip it up and start again" is the only solution.. (Apologise to Edwin Collins, (not related).... The Promoters are not capable of sorting the sport out in the UK, othewise the year on year "S. Show" we have would have been tried to be sorted in the past two decades... Covid being a truly "free hit" to come back with a "Brand New Sport"... They truly havent a clue about marketing or promotion, and, as we see on TV, no idea how to sell themselves, with stadia three quarters empty... "Please come and pay 20 odd quid to watch some contrived, made up, nonsense"... Doesn't float too many boats does it?

  22. But if they had 'a proper no1' they would need to also have a 3 point reserve to partner the RS replacing two of the existing 7 Can't see that making them any better off....

  23. They might just listen if there were enough of us. Amalgamation of the leagues please and if GP riders price themselves out then so be it. Oh, and please bring back the Golden Helmet. Forget the nominated rider rubbish and just have the opposition top scorer in a head to head with the current holder. Sponsorship/decent prize money and see where we go. Recap .... tonight's meeting was garbage and I'm feeling pretty annoyed. Something needs to be done!

  24. Well the views of the ring road looked free flowing with no hold ups…can’t remember seeing a builders bum in the pits…from every negative comes a positive and all that.

  25. ... God bless you.... They won't listen to me ..... "If it ain't broken, why fix it?"... The answers are glaring themselves in the face... But, their collective egos won't allow any radical changes... If you started the sport from scratch, brand new, next year, and wrote down the current operating model on a blank A4 piece of paper as your plan... You wouldn't even get to page two before ripping page one up!!...

  26. Would anyone notice if you did? 😁

  27. That's a bit generous. I think this system would work: No passes recorded lap 1 as they are sorting themselves out. None on lap 2 as they are just getting settled into the rhythm of the race after sorting themselves out. Lap 3 we can count passes, hurrah! Lap 4 doesn't count, as by then some riders give up on the last two bends so it can't be a genuine pass. Forthwith all programs to have a column to mark when authorised passes occur, so the 100 or so fans packing out the NSS can have something else to do when Kurtz is half the circuit ahead of the rest, again 😁

  28. You need to let BSN know.... It is all truly Fred Karno bollox... Amatuer Hour every single meeting in the UK... I am truly amazed they haven't set up a meat raffle...... "Welcome to the Phoenix Club"...

  29. To be brutally honest, absolute shambles. BSN commentators were poor. Track was a disgrace.both sets of riders not impressed with conditions or preparation ….after the recent GP’s any newbies who went or watched it on the stream must be thinking what an absolute sh7t show….sometimes British speedway does itself no favours at all.

  30. Personally, after attending both nights, I will definitely be there next year if it is held at Belle Vue. Lots of problems, but the racing was much better than Cardiff. Hopefully a few lessons will be learnt, & most problems could be sorted with more staff, in my opinion.

  32. I am sure those in charge, will "learn" from this evening... And everyone will be contented with that. It's the modern way... Be "Barry White" but it's OK, as long as you have done your best.. . "I am super enthused to get it right next time"..

  35. Again apologies that I come from a legal background but the Heat Six description is.... "Tigers gated! Fricke burst between them off b2, and Howarth didn't take long to get ahead of Sedgmen". So lets break the statement down . Them is a plural therefore Fricke would have been behind both of them, so that two riders passed. The implication of this is that at some stage Howarth was behind Sedgeman. So that is also a pass. Therefore it is safe to say that there was three passes in Heat Six alone last Monday at Leicester.

  37. He's just been declared as riding 10 mins ago on the British Speedway TwitterX feed, so he's definitely 100% going to be there 💯 👍🏻

  38. It's not a difficult equation to work out though.....Poland have paid for all of his treatment and rehab, pay riders thousands more than they earn here and the tracks are far easier to ride. Did Emil ride for Torun but not Ippo at the end of last season? The crunch is obviously next Monday, Belle Vue away would be the meeting he'd return for if he's going to. Lynn don't ride at home for three weeks and I suspect that's the issue with tonight. You would like to think that with the relationship Ben has with Rob Lyon and his previous commitment to Britian that he will ride next week and be strong enough to stand up to Leszno if they pressure him not to.

  39. Sorry as I ex Barrister I have challenged statements like that for 35+ years so, I wondered how you knew there was one overtake in the meeting if you did not watch it?

  40. How about…. every country holds qualifying rounds for their own riders, the best of whom progress to further stages of qualifying, then to area finals and then a last round of qualifying meetings, such as Nordic, European, British etc finals, culminating with 16 riders, for a one-off meeting to decide who’s the World Champion - no points carried forward from qualifying, everything decided on the day (night) in front of a massive crowd. Do you think this might catch on?
    2 points
  41. If we could get a rider to replace him permanently then I definitely would!! I agree it stinks to high heaven! If you don’t want to ride for the Stars anymore then don’t, just let the club know ffs! He’ll leave us hanging on and hanging on then not come back, then we will be even more screwed than we already are! 😠

  42. Given that King's Lynn had already booked / announced a guest before Cook "re-injured" his wrist, the whole thing absolutely stinks! Also as Leszno won 60-30, if Cook was struggling with his wrist why did he go out in the nominated races?

  43. The turning point is clearly Doyle's withdrawal. Terrific win again by the Stars but just wish it could have been done with all 7 Witches available. We're no really seeing the strength of this team vs full strength sides but that's Speedway I suppose. Top 4 is back on for the Stars but they really really need to find a No1. With the season not starting so hot for Robert Lambert, could he be tempted back earlier than August/September 🤔

  44. Hey mikebv, you come on this forum often enough so you must have the sport at heart. Like many others on here as well including myself. Probably total wishful thinking but what if certain supporters like yourself, Iainb and others who obviously care about the sport were invited by the British Promoters to attend a meeting (all expenses paid of course!) to put all views/opinions forward prior to their annual November get together. Providing there was a "full" commitment from the promoters that they would seriously listen to all views put forward and advocate changes where they thought possible, would you attend?

  47. Which reference to the last sentence means nothing. The rules were set for 2025, the riders know they apply to all 10 rounds - and i like it. All races count to get in top 2. All races count to get into top 10 and the higher you are means better gate picks and if finishing 2nd, 3rd or 4th in LCQ higher GP points awarded. what i don’t like however is that in a tie and 1st, 2nds etc won’t split, fastest times are used instead of head to heads- ridiculous !!

  48. The points scoring system has got to review for next season, it is making mockery of the Sport. Its meant to be to decide a World Champion. another example tonight Freddie scores 7! And finishes with 14.Max scores 12 and finishes with 8. Perhaps at the end of the season the Top7 for next season should be the points scored in the actual meeting and not the Finals. Eliminates one anomaly. only Speedway can come up with this scoring system.
