  1. The guys involved with Coventry and particularly Jeff Davies have poured huge amounts of time into getting speedway back, and have already confirmed members of the consortium. You are correct that Brandon will need a lot of money to make it usable, but money won't be an issue with the individuals they have got on board - they're issue is getting the site out of the developers hands, but I think their efforts deserve applauding and our support, not constant mocking.

  2. Just out of interest, did you throw a hissy fit, and get this dramatic, a few months ago when Marks & Spencer had a major I.T. problem, and all their online business was shut down for over 2 months? Did you get all angry and demand answers from M&S when they said they had a "cyber issue" just as you have when Workington said they had an "administration issue"? To be honest, I'm not that bothered if Workington's fixtures are moved back a couple of weeks. I was rather worried about M&S, knowing that they had my credit card details. However I sat it out, and trusted M&S and the regulatory bodies to sort it out. I didn't feel the need to demand further private details of whether they were being held to ransom by Russian hackers. So, I'm just curious why you're getting so hysterical about a couple of weeks of sorting some visa paperwork.

  3. It's this attitude that stinks, and one that British Speedway also seems to abide by. It's all cloak and daggers, and treating the fans with little to no respect. Of course people have the right to know. We're the paying public, without us no speedway club would exist. Many of us have been impacted, and lost out financially for having paid accommodation for meetings that have been cancelled as a result of this. But no....screw us.... we don't matter.

  4. You really are talking utter nonsense. Firstly, Wimbledon weren’t struggling after re-opening in ‘02. Where are you getting that from? Secondly, conveniently you have ignored my question of how you know those behind the proposed return at Coventry have no money. If you are going to make comments, either back it up or don’t make such accusations. Thirdly, as already proved to you, a businessman did touch speedway by bringing back Oxford and making it a success. Just look at the crowds they are getting. Way more than “half a dozen supporters”. It really is a shame that not only are you incredibly negative towards any new venue opening, but actually dead against any form of growth for the sport in the UK. And you’ll make up lies just to try and prove your spurious point. Bizarre.

  5. Only in speedway would you get a situation where the people who pay for the most expensive tickets have to get wet so the referee can see the track

  6. The promotion have said an explanation will be given once its all sorted.. Jesus wept, some people! You don't need to know everything immediately, all the time! I blame the internet

  7. Correct decision imo, the lad obviously has the natural talent but there is a mental block in there somewhere, it was all on show last year at numerous meetings where he just shut off and you can’t race speedway like that, you will get injured, speedway is one of the most head strong sports there is and if your head isn’t 100% in it you’re better off out of it

  8. Yes but if the issues, whatever they are, have not be resolved, someone has to make a statement today to say what may or may not be happening. I'm a comet's fan and hope they pull through this hiccup And the someone will have to be both bspa and comets management imo

  9. I would also like the guy who announces the races/times to pronounce his “th’s” correctly so that “Gate Free” becomes “GateThree”, “sixty free point free free seconds becomes “sixty three point three three seconds” & “Fird place” becomes “third place”

  10. We are pushing these youngsters too hard and too fast. At least let them get out of Championship reserve spots, have a spell at number two and let them learn their trade at a sensible pace.

  11. He was offered a championship spot not too long ago which I believe he accepted then decided to turn down, reason given didn’t feel ready. Feel this new generation feel they should all be given things on a plate and things should happen instantly for them now. They don’t want to put in the hard work or travel the country to get laps in to progress anymore. Feel this is a huge reason British riders don’t cut it anymore. Think of all the guys that have came through the system over the last 10/20 years who’ve put in the hard work, travel and laps compare to now. Not saying this is the case with Springer but just the an overall opinion on where the new generation are at.

  12. But it does seem a logical inconsistency. Seven days out if you are ill, but no days out if a family member is ill. Are we heading for a rash of riders missing meetings because their mother-in-law is poorly?

  13. Looking at the crowd it reminds me of a TNT Monday night meeting... And now the VIP roof is being pulled in it so the ref can see, it reminds me even more of a UK meeting..

  14. Probably thought if his shoulder could stand up to all the holes in the Poole track it could stand up to anything!

  15. Maybe because this is a government matter (visa’s) they are not allowed to say to not jeopardise the procedure ?

  17. Fair play to the Stars select side last night. Although a 16-point defeat is still a decent margin, I think the score flattered Leicester a tad considering my expectation was they’d hit 60 easily. Having attended the meeting, one thing that stood out to me was what lovely fans Leicester have.

  19. Beyond your passive aggressive angry little person response. Thank you for pointing this out I’d missed it. That’s exactly the kind of statements I’d expect in this situation even if it was over due. I sincerely wish the comets all the best.

  20. Seriously, it’s that attitude that brings this sport down. I’ve no skin in the game but as someone who quite happily puts money aside each week to attend my club. If I were a working fan I’d be a bit p’d off. Do I think the fans deserve a news letter outlining everything, no. A polite statement to say “we are doing our best and we appreciate your patience” would go a long way. For me speedway is a get together for three generations of our family. We love our trackside evenings out but if that’s in doubt we would spend the money the clubs need elsewhere. In an age of social media and public image speedway needs to do better. The days of waiting for the star to come out are gone. What could really save the sport is public engagement not secrecy.

  31. Hawkins is right there. When you look at the Oxford side they don’t look a bad side at all so a few riders have underperformed. They’ve all had good meetings, but unfortunately for Oxford very few have had them at the same time. Doyle has filled his boots with two huge scores in Poland and Sweden, so absolutely no excuses now. He needs to put in a match winning score at Oxford after the tripe he served up at Belle Vue.

  32. Imo the extra couple of 1000revs generated by the modern bike is just wasted and is doing nothing more than wearing tyres, engines and tracks out quicker while not generating any more forward momentum and I believe making the bikes more dangerous when they do encounter a rut or bump or deep dirt,a chat with one of my friends who I won’t name says he believes the bikes are quicker down the straights and definitely into the corners but slower round the corners because they have to scrub the speed off that they have generated going into the corners therefore the overall the same, so the bikes are going faster in actual speed but not faster over a lap

  33. But apparently 11 make a Championship season - 2 BSN, 1 cup & 8 league matches. That will be why riders have to double up and fans don't know when the next meeting is as there's large gaps in the racing calendar.

  34. I’ve got 4 well maintained raceable uprights 1 jap, 1 weslake and 2 GMs and you’re right I wouldn’t hand them over to anyone, cost too much to get to that standard and if anyone is going to blow them up or bend them it’s going to be me and I think that’s pretty much the stance of the majority of owners

  35. And you think there's going to be another announcement? You've been in this game long enough to know how British Speedway works. I'll bet anyone on here good money that we won't hear a thing today - once again leaving fans in the dark.

  36. Looking at the current state of UK Speedway, if it was my lad I am not sure I would encourage him to try and be a Speedway rider... Only the very, very few, get to earn the big money and, as we will see I am sure soon, the sport over here will be lowering its outgoings significantly.. Not many top riders "suddenly" come good like Jason Doyle did, most clearly stood out by the time they were 20, with some even at 16... Given the sports issues, I would think a fair few parents will be asking themselves honestly if their kid has what it takes to be a top level rider.. Because, if the kid hasn't, and he will just be an average rider, I can't see them making much money over here for at least the next decade or so, and maybe never...

  37. I have debating these very questions for a while now and there was a piece in the speedway star last week prompted by me about the modern bikes in the modern era are not going any faster than the bikes of by gone years, I was using the race times at Sheffield as an example, the times last night at Sheffield were around the 61-63 seconds mark which is the same times as Hans Nielsen and Shaun Moran at the same track in the 80s, now track surfaces, tyres and silencers are a factor but the fact remains we are going no faster despite the £1000s thrown at it, what is going faster is the back wheel speed but the bike speed is roughly the same, an interesting video to watch is Dan bewley riding a godden at Workington when he out with another rider on his modern laydown and how the godden pulls better out of start to first corner, when they were going round you can here the godden struggling for revs coming off the corners but holding its own speed wise but Dan is on an untuned engine with probably the wrong gearing which eventually blows up, so imagine if it was a tuned up godden with the right gearing ?

  38. Since it was given away by the BSPL 2 years ago. This year Extraliga 2 started organising Thursday matches to take advantage of it rather than only using that day for rain offs.

  39. Absolute nonsense. Assuming by 'they' you mean the owners Risk Capital Partners. The reason they would not give speedway ( or other businesses on the site) a new lease was because they wanted to demolish the stadium and build over 600 flats. It's completely inaccurate to say that speedway was not viable - as the speedway promoters confirmed in the public domain at the time. Your continued attempts to re write history will not wash.

  40. If you read my post. I said he made a fine debut. Indeed he won heat 2 at Sheffield tonight, beating Barker, Hagon and Sedgeman which I think was far more impressive than what he did last night at Poole. Why would you say such a silly thing regarding Zmarzlik and Kurtz? I'm not the one going round saying what an unbelievable talant he is! I'll leave that to the Poole fans and the media. I remember another british 250 world champion who was going to set the world on fire. His name was Kyle Bickly. Another world beater Boughen. Where are those two riders now? Screen,Loram and Andy Smith all made their debuts in the 1st divison at 16 and held their own. That was when all the top riders rode over here. If he goes on to be half as good as them, then he ain't done too bad.

  45. Who are these veteran riders you speak of ? I have a good knowledge of this and of all the riders that have raced over the years , 99% of them have no interest in riding a bike ever again and the 1% that have a little skid now and again have no inclination to want to race let alone have the equipment to do it
